Palin’s Racist Ties Exposed By The Boston Globe

Palin at Tea Party Express event in Boston

Every once and awhile Lynnrockets feels it necessary to defer to the experts when composing the narrative segment of this blog. This is one of those days.

Last Sunday, The Boston Globe published an editorial by columnist Joan Venocchi titled, “Racism At The Tea Party”. It was a no holds barred, fact driven explanation of the racist ties and philosophy binding Sarah Palin, Mark Williams and the Tea Party. It is a “must read” column which is excerpted in part below. I do however, request that all of you readers please read the full article at the above link so as to give The Boston Globe and Ms. Venocchi the credit they deserve.

“Let’s turn the conversation about racism back to where it belongs — with Mark Williams, Sarah Palin, and the Tea Party.

Williams wasn’t on the “fringe’’ of this populist movement. He was the force behind a nationwide Tea Party bus tour that generated extensive media coverage because it featured Palin. When Palin visited Boston last April, Williams was chief crowd warmer-upper.

“Political correctness is going to kill us,’’ the chairman of the Tea Party Express told the Boston Common gathering that awaited the woman in red. “Political correctness led to 9/11, political correctness led to Barack Hussein Obama. Political correctness is a societal HIV. (America has) a full-blown case of AIDS and we’re the cure.’’

Williams, a conservative radio talk show host, is known for what can most kindly be called edgy commentary: Anti-war activist and Gold star mother Cindy Sheehan “is on a mission to figuratively urinate on her son’s grave and make his death stand for nothing.’’ Kanye West is “a Ku Klux Klansman in blackface.’’ Obama is “an Indonesian Muslim turned welfare thug and a racist in chief.’’

He finally crossed the line, after the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People passed a resolution condemning “racist elements’’ within the Tea Party movement. Williams, responded with a July 15 blog post (Lynnrockets’ note: the post was in the form of a letter to President Lincoln from “the coloreds”). As criticism heated up, a self-appointed umbrella group called the National Tea Party Federation expelled Williams and the Tea Party Express.

After the NAACP resolution, but before Williams’ blog post, Palin defended the Tea Party. “I am saddened by the NAACP’s claim that patriotic Americans who stand up for the United States of America’s constitutional rights are somehow ‘racists,’ ’’ Palin wrote on Facebook. “The charge that Tea Party Americans judge people by the color of their skin is false, appalling and is a regressive and diversionary tactic to change the subject at hand.’’

Talk about changing the subject.

The nearly non-stop media frenzy over Palin focuses on the all-important question of whether she will give her blessing to the reuniting of daughter Bristol Palin with Levi Johnston, the bad-boy father of their child. A Palin run for president is also getting serious media attention, with a politico.com piece arguing that she “has something more than intellect. She has the ability to understand, connect with and energize her party.’’

Which party is that? The party Williams represented when he stood on stage with her in Boston and across the country?

Given the ongoing debate about who speaks for the Tea Party and who should be accountable for racist statements from people like Williams — how about the woman who used him as her warm-up act?”

Brava, Ms. Vennochi, Brava!

In honor of the troops, please remember to click on the song link below to familiarize yourselves with the tune and to have more fun singing along with today’s song parody.

AMERICAN IDIOT

(sung to the Green Day song “American Idiot”)

Sarah P. is an American idiot
Abomination of the “lamestream” media
Palin only makes sounds of hysteria
The sound loved by pick-up truck America

Sarah suffers from hyper-tension
From illegal alien nation
Listen to her and you’ll see she’s not okay
She’ll be in restraints by tomorrow
Glenn Beck then will be sure to follow
Anyone care to argue?

Palin thinks she’s the queen of America
But all she has is a redneck agenda
Circulated with Tea-Bag propaganda
They have ushered in an age of paranoia

Palin’s secrets are too dark to mention
Hides them in her house which is fenced in
And her kids barely ever have a school day
Forfeiting their dreams of tomorrow
In their parents’ steps they will follow
Just who are they to argue?

(instrumental)

Sarah P. is an American idiot
Frustrations unfold in the media
The Fox brass could not be merrier
They’re calling out to idiot America

Palin is a Fox News invention
With Tea Party affiliation
Her supporters are fine if they obey
And all of her schemes they do follow
She feeds them lots of bullshit to swallow
Just who are they to argue?

  1. Seems like Palin’s reported comment after Senator Obama beat Senator Clinton was more likely to be true than not.

Excellent work on the song and commentary.

  2. Probably not all teabaggers are racists

Many are naturally suspicious because they live in constant fear of having their guns confiscated. Others simply have a cautious distrust of anything new such as Health Care Reform or communism. Very few are aware that right-wing Catholics dominate the Supreme Court and are taking very good care of the Constitution, in their own way.

And there’s surely more than a few who really were disgusted by the Bush tax-cut deficit spending.

    • Nice point, BP. It is odd for me to think thank that Catholics would be so very right wing. Maybe you don’t know, but I am the child of Irish Catholic parents (and when I say that, I mean really Irish as in born in Ireland). When I grew up, if you were Irish, you were a Democrat without exception. Roe v. Wade threw a wrench into the works because of the church. Nonetheless, most of us are still far more liberal than conservative. I think the same is still true of the Catholic Supreme Court justices.

      • Speaking of Religion….a Muslim view.

….right now there is a peak because it’s election season and so many tea partiers are on the ballot. Right wing politicians, their followers, and their media outlets are latching onto this issue because the ground zero mosque gave them an opening. It’s an effective one-two fear punch along with ‘black Obama Administration officials are coming to get you white people’.

  3. Unholy Trinity

,,,fundamentalism is one of the three major components of the right-wing rage that Palin clearly thinks could make her the Republican presidential nominee in 2012. The two other elements are anti-intellectualism and class resentment that serve as an accompaniment to and a mask for racism.
