Mitt(wit) Romney’s Immigration Response: Flip or Flop or ?

What does Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney have in store for us regarding President Barack Obama’s recent policy directive ending most deportations of the children of illegal immigrants? Will Romney’s response be a flip, a flop or yet a new position altogether? All three of these options are most likely on the table inasmuch as the Mitt(wit) has already shamelessly flip-flopped regarding his stance his stance on immigration.

In 2007, Mitt Romney supported the McCain-Kennedy immigration reform tactic that provided a pathway to citizenship for those who entered the United states illegally. During an appearance on “Meet The Press” on December 16, 2007, he said, “My view is consistent with what you saw in the Lowell Sun is that those people who have come here illegally and are in this country, the 12 million or so that are here illegally, should be able to sign up for permanent residency or citizenship.”

Yet later in 2011 Mitt(wit) flip-flopped on his stated immigration policy position. On November 11, 2011 during a Republican Primary debate, Romney said, “To say that we’re going to say to the people who have come here illegally that now you’re all going to get to stay, or some large number are going to get to stay and become permanent residents of the United States, that will only encourage more people to do the same thing. People respond to incentives. And if you can become a permanent resident of the United States by coming here illegally, you’ll do so.”

If, as the saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words, then surely a video is worth a million pictures, so let’s watch Mitt Romney actually verbalizing his immigration flip-flop:

Of course those flip flops pre-dated President Obama’s immigration announcement last week. Last Sunday on “Face The Nation”, host Bob Schieffer asked Romney three times whether he would repeal Obama’s directive as president. As for Romney’s answer, The Huffington Post reports, “The first time, Romney ignored the question. The second time, he said it would be a non-issue because he would be able to pass long-term immigration reform through Congress quickly — something that President George W. Bush was unable to do, in large part because of opposition from his own party….On Schieffer’s third try, Romney went only so far as to say he’d consider repealing it. “We’ll look at that setting as we reach that, but my anticipation is I’d come into office and say we need to get this done, on a long-term basis, not this kind of stop-gap measure.’” How is that for a “none of the above” or “all of the above” or “some of the above” response?

For those of you keeping score at home, here are the rest of Mitt(wit) Romney’s flip-flops:

Abortion: (“abortion should be safe and legal” and “I will preserve and protect a woman’s right to choose”/”I am pro-life);

Support of Ronald Reagan: (“I was an Independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I’m not trying to return to Reagan -Bush”/ “Ronald Reagan is my hero”);

Gun control: (I support the Brady gun control law. That’s not going to make me the hero of the NRA” and “I have a gun of my own”/”I’m after the NRA’s endorsement” and “I do not personally own a gun”);

Climate change: (“I think the global warming debate is pretty over and recognize the need associated with providing sources which do not generate the heat that is currently provided by fossil fuels” and “I concur that climate change is beginning to have an effect on our natural resources and that now is the time to take action”/”I have to tell you with regards to global warming that that’s something, which you’re right, the scientists haven’t entirely resolved” and “Republicans should never abandon pro-growth conservative principles in an effort to embrace the ideas of Al Gore”);

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell: (“the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military”/”the last 10 years have convinced me that the policy is working and there is no need to change it”);

Health care law with personal mandates (He signed  the Massachusetts plan with mandates to purchase health into law and said, “If Massachusetts succeeds in implementing it, then that will be a model for the nation. I Like mandates”/ He now opposes the new national health care law with the very same personal mandates and says, “I will repeal Obamacare);

No-tax pledges: (in 2006 he referred to them as “Government by gimmickry”/in 2008 he signed a no tax pledge);

His father with Martin Luther King: (“I saw my father march with Martin Luther King.”/“I did not see it with my own eyes.”);

Minimum wage: (“I think the minimum wage ought to keep pace with inflation.”/“There’s no question raising the minimum wage excessively causes a loss of jobs.” );

Stem cell research: (“I will work and fight for stem cell research.”/“In the end, I became persuaded that the stem-cell debate was grounded in a false premise.”);

Campaign finance limits: (“I would like to have campaign spending limits.”/“The American people should be free to advocate for their candidates and their positions without burdensome limitations.”);

Auto industry bailout: (“I’m going to take burdens off the back of the auto industry.”/”Let Detroit go bankrupt. Detroit needs a turnaround, not a check.”);

Romney’s desire to serve his nation in the military: (“It was not my desire to go off and serve in Vietnam.”/“I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there.”);

Bringing Osama bin Laden to justice: (“It’s not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person.”/“He’s going to pay, and he will die.” );

The bank bailout: (“The TARP program… was nevertheless necessary to keep banks from collapsing in a cascade of failures.” /“When government is… bailing out banks… we have every good reason to be alarmed.”); and

Even his favorite book: (on 4/30/07 he said L. Ron Hubbard’s “Battlefield Earth”/ on 5/1/07 he said “Huckleberry Finn”).

Fox News’ Sean Hannity Exposed As Liar By MSNBC’s Ed Schultz

Earlier this week, Fox News’ Republican Cheerleader-in-Chief, Sean Hannity stated on air, “I know the President will say ‘we got bin Laden” but putting that aside, it wouldn’t have happened if he (President Obama) had his way and I think that can be proven as well on tapes.”

Of course Hannity did not (and has not since) produced any tapes which corroborate his allegation that President Obama either did not desire to eliminate Osama bin Laden or took any action to discourage or prevent the elimination of the terrorist. You see, this is how Sean Hannity and most of his Fox News cronies operate. They make outrageous statements and seldom back any of them up with actual facts. Such is the case here.

Here are some tapes in fact which completely dispel Hannity’s spurious lie:

First we have a tape of Barack Obama on October 7, 2008 saying, “If we have Osama bin Laden in our sites and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take him out, then I think that we have to act and we will take them out. We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al -Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority.”

Of course, as we all know, President Obama successfully followed through on his promise to eliminate Osama bin Laden and in a televised interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes” shortly thereafter, Defense Secretary Robert Gates gave  much credit for the mission to the President. He said, “I believe, and I’ve worked for a lot of these guys (U.S. Presidents) and this is one of the most courageous calls, decisions that i think I’ve ever seen a President make…It was a very gutsy call…This is a man who is not afraid to make a tough decision and I have seen him make a number.”

If those tapes are not enough to contradict Sean Hannity and expose him as a liar, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz finished the job. Please click on the following link to view Schultz calling Hannity to task:  http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/201202080019

HANNITY IN THE DARK

(sung to the Chicago song “Saturday In The Park”)

Hannity in the dark
You’d think that he would open his eyes
Hannity in the dark
It’s rhetoric that the reich wing buys
Keeps us barfing, keeps us laughing
The man is a lame-brain
G.O.P. talking points
Ixnay on the truthiness
Do you dig it? (no, we don’t)
And he’s been at it such a long time
Sean Hannity

Hannity in the dark
You’d think that he would open his eyes
Hannity in the dark
It’s rhetoric that the reich wing buys
His tough talking, while he’s smiling
Scared of waterboarding
Chicken-hawk with gall
Olbermann exposed the fool
Can you dig it? (yes, we can)
And Alan Colmes was such a nice guy
Yesterday

Slow thinking dropout without a college degree
A bought man just can shill for the G.O.P.
Fox News execs know they’re his boss
Know they’re his boss (oh, yeah, yeah)

In a daze, in the dark
Every day’s a day full of lies
In a haze, off the mark
He’s just like Limbaugh in disguise
Embellishing and misleading
An abomination
Like the Berlin Wall
An idiot, pitching a fit
Can you dig it? (no, we can’t)
And he’s been at it such a long time

Obama Flies While Mitch Daniels Lies

As everybody knows, President Barack Obama delivered his third State of the Union Address last night. The speech consisted of a mixing of his administration’s accomplishments, its upcoming priorities, his direct challenge to Congress to get things done and his assurance that America is continuing to recover from its economic woes and will thrive as the result of his proposed policies.

The address opened with Obama describing the heroic efforts of the Navy Seals carrying forth his command to enter Pakistan and neutralize 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden. He said, “For the first time in two decades, Osama bin Laden is not a threat to this country.” He followed that by re-capping a long list of his policies such as health care reform, Wall Street reform, tax breaks to the working/middle class, the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, the saving of the automotive industry , the job-creating stimulus plan. He backed up his accomplishments by stressing the undeniable facts that the economy has added nearly 3.2 million private-sector jobs over the last 22 months, and American manufacturing is creating jobs for the first time since the late 1990s and that the American auto industry has added 100,000 jobs in the last year, and U.S. oil production is at the highest level in eight years.

Obama then moved on to a list of priorities to be tackled next. He proposed more clean energy development and the creation of a China Task Force to combat trade violations. He also proposed individual tax relief to the working/middle class while allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire for the wealthy who have profited most in the last several years. He repeated his longstanding call for the wealth to pay more in taxes, including a specific proposal for millionaires to have a tax rate of 30%. He proposed an administrative order to  mortgage lenders to ease restrictions which would allow homeowners to refinance at today’s historically low interest rates and he called for enhanced education and job training initiatives.

Obama then placed pressure directly on the Republican controlled House of Representatives. He informed Americans that Congressional obstructionism was preventing an economic recovery by means of blocking his initiatives. He adamantly stated, “I intend to fight obstruction with action, and I will oppose any effort to return to the very same policies that brought on this economic crisis in the first place.” With regard to extending the payroll tax cut for wage earners, Obama defiantly said, “Let’s agree right here, right now: No side issues. No drama. Pass the payroll tax cut without delay.”

He stole the thunder of Republicans by calling for lower corporate taxes but only for those businesses that bring jobs back to the United States. He called for ending tax subsidies to those businesses which continue to outsource jobs. He said, “Tonight, my message to business leaders is simple: Ask yourselves what you can do to bring jobs back to your country, and our country will do everything we can to help you succeed,”  He also said that every multinational company should pay a basic minimum tax, while giving American manufacturers a tax cut. He challenged Congress to send him a bill which accomplishes those things right away so that he can quickly sign it into law.

He also challenged Congress to act on comprehensive immigration reform, a major election-year issue for the important Hispanic-American vote. Short of a major overhaul, he called for legislation like the DREAM Act that provides children of illegal immigrants who go to college or serve in the military a path to possible citizenship. Again, he told Congress to send him a bill which accomplishes those things right away so that he can quickly sign it into law.

Obama went so far as to say that if Congress is unable or unwilling to advance his initiatives, he will not sit still. He said, “With or without this Congress, I will keep taking actions that help the economy grow.” He announced that via executive order, the Defense Department will make history’s largest renewable energy purchase — totaling 1 gigawatt. He also announced that his administration is announcing the opening of new off-shore oil fields.

Obama concluded by saying, “The nation is great because we get each other’s backs. And if we hold fast to that truth, in this moment of trial, there is no challenge too great, no mission too hard. As long as we’re joined in common purpose, as long as we maintain our common resolve, our journey moves forward, our future is hopeful, and the state of our Union will always be strong.”

In contrast to the President’s fact-laden address, the Republican rebuttal was (as usual) comprised of misinformation, deception, a lack of any specific proposals and at least one pure and outright lies. The rebuttal was delivered by Indiana governor Mitch Daniels in an empty museum building which was symbolic of his statement’s empty rhetoric. Daniels was somewhat of an odd choice for the GOP inasmuch as Indiana’s unemployment rate has climbed higher than the national average. His opposition to the auto rescue could have cost Indiana more than 147,000 jobs and he has completely flip-flopped on right-to-work legislation.

Daniels opened with a whopper of a lie. he said, “The President did not cause the economic and fiscal crises that continue in America tonight. But he was elected on a promise to fix them, and he cannot claim that the last three years have made things anything but worse.” The truth is that for the last several months prior to Obama’s election, the economy was losing between 600,000 and 800,00 jobs per month. Indeed, U.S. nonfarm employment stood at just more than 137 million jobs in July 2008, before the already-under-way recession turned into a nosedive following that September’s financial crisis. By January, when Obama took office, the figure had fallen to about 133.5 million — a loss of about 3.5 million jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and an additional 4.3 million jobs were lost before Obama’s stimulus policies took hold in February 2010. From that date onward however, the economy has added (not lost) jobs for 23 out of the last 24 months. Since that job growth resumed, the economy has added about 3 million jobs. Additionally, The gross domestic product, the prime measure of economic strength, shrank by a severe 6.8 percent annual rate before Obama became president. The declines eased after he took office and economic growth, however modest, has resumed. Also, the recession officially ended six months into Obama’s presidency. The facts prove that there is no denying that the economy has improved under Obama.

Daniels lied yet again when he said “The late Steve Jobs – what a fitting name he had – created more of them than all those stimulus dollars the President borrowed and blew.” The truth is that Apple employs only about 60,000 workers, according to its filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. As just stated above, the Bureau of Labor Statistics confirms that since the Stimulus policies came into full effect, the economy has added about 3 million jobs.

The Republicans’ alternative plan for economic recovery was explained by Daniels as follows: “So 2012 is a year of true opportunity, maybe our last, to restore an America of hope and upward mobility, and greater equality. The challenges aren’t matters of ideology, or party preference; the problems are simply mathematical, and the answers are purely practical.” Did Daniels go on to define or explain exactly what he characterized as these “mathematical problems”? Nope! Did he define or explain the Republicans’ “purely practical” solutions? Nope! Nada! Nothing! Not even one single specific policy proposal.

Bottom line: Obama soared last night while Daniels and the Republicans took a nose dive.

Tea Bagging Racist Ron Paul Announces Run For 2012 Presidency

Ron Paul and his sane supporters.

How appropriate that wacky Republican Ron Paul would announce his candidacy for the 2012 presidency on Friday the 13th. This unlucky day might doom his own campaign while simultaneously bringing bad luck to the other Republican candidates who will lose primary votes to the pied-piper of Tea Party lunatics. Ron Paul is just the type of conservative wild-card that the Democrats were hoping for. He adds to the potential GOP cadre of crackpots like Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann and Donald Trump, yet he also has the ability to garner enough primary votes to vanquish the chances of some of the more viable Republican candidates. Ron Paul might just be Barack Obama’s best secret weapon.

If you need evidence of Ron Paul’s craziness, consider these tidbits:

-  He is known as “Dr. No” because of his insistence that he will “never vote for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution;

- He advocates withdrawal from the United Nations, and from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO);

- He opposes birthright citizenship;

- He advocates for the elimination of the Federal Reserve;

- He would deny women their right of freedom of choice in birth; and

- He believes that the civil Rights act of 1964 is unconstitutional.

Now let’s take a look at some of Ron Paul’s quotes as published in his newsletters:

- “Boy, it sure burns me to have a national holiday for that pro-communist philanderer Martin Luther King. I voted against this outrage time and time again as a Congressman. What an infamy that Ronald Reagan approved it! We can thank him for our annual Hate Whitey Day.”;

- “even in my little town of Lake Jackson, Texas, I’ve urged everyone in my family to know how to use a gun in self defense. For the animals are coming.”;

- “opinion polls consistently show only about 5% of blacks have sensible political opinions”;

- “if you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be.”; and

- “hip-hop thing to do among the urban youth who play unsuspecting whites like pianos.” (referring to the crime of carjacking);

In an attempt to deflect criticism regarding these quotes Paul said the documents were authored by ghostwriters, and that while he did not author the challenged passages, he bore “some moral responsibility” for their publication. Gee, do ya think?

Has Ron Paul said anything interesting of late you ask? FoxNews.com reports that in a radio interview Tuesday, Paul said that the U.S. government could have worked with Pakistan to secure Usama bin Laden’s capture instead of unilaterally entering the country and killing him — despite concerns that the Pakistanis could have tipped him off.  Paul said,

“It was absolutely not necessary. What if he had been in a hotel in London? So would we have sent the … helicopters into London because they were afraid the information would get out? No, you don’t want to do that.”

So let’s get this straight. Ron Paul believes that the Pakistani government (which has a history of non-cooperation and outright misleading of the US government) would have been just as cooperative as our longtime ally the British government in apprehending Osama bin Laden. Things that make you say, “Hmm?” Indeed, that wacky statement even raised the hackles of some of his cultishly loyal Tea Baggers. Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips said on his website,

“If there is any doubt that Ron Paul should not even get near the Oval Office, even on a tour of the White House, he has just revealed it. For a Congressman to say the raid to kill the man who is one of the greatest mass murderers of Americans in history was, ‘not necessary,’ is simply nuts.”

Luckily (for us progressives), inasmuch as most members of the Tea Party read the news about as frequently as Sarah Palin (see Katie Couric interview), they will not know about Paul’s statement or Tea Party Nation’s comment thereon. Consequently, they will still support Paul in large numbers. All in all, Ron Paul’s inclusion in the “Koch Bros. and Flying Republican Nomination Circus” is sure to be entertaining fun for the whole family.

Piano Man” song link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBC6IVP-C84

TEA BAGGING MEN

(sung to the Billy Joel song “Piano Man”)

It’s nine o’clock on a Saturday
Rand Paul comes marching in
A proud member of the Tea Party
Like so many white racist men

He says, “Boy you know that I’m from Kentucky
And I think that Obama blows
It was sad and back-street how he chastised BP
Just because their damn oil rigs explode”

La la la, di da da
La la, di di da da dum

Sing us a song you Tea-Bagging men
Sing us a song tonight
Give us some patriotic imagery
Tri-corn hats and a wig that’s too tight

Now Sarah Palin is no friend of mine
Thank God she’s not the VP
Yes she looked like a dope every time she misspoke
As McCain claimed she was “mavericky”

She says, “Why does the press keep on grilling me?”
As her smile runs away from her face
“Can’t they see I’m a tabloid-bred superstar,
Though I quit my job in disgrace?”

Oh, la la la, di da da
La la, di da da da dum

Ron Paul is a right-wing apologist
He is anti-gay and pro-life
Grasp of history’s hazy and he’s moon-bat crazy
Ron Paul should be confined for life

And Scott Walker’s union-busting politics
Sparked a recall to get him de-throned
While Mike Huckabee thinks his “down-hominess”
Will coax liberals to leave him alone

Sing us a song you Tea-Bagging men
Sing us a song tonight
Give us some patriotic imagery
Tri-corn hats and a wig that’s too tight

Had a pretty big crowd just last Saturday
With the Tea Baggers dressed in high style
They were at a rally with signs misspelled badly
To express ignorance all the while

And the town common, it looks like a carnival
With the Tea Baggers from far and near
They unload from their cars lots of feathers and tar
As they fan flames of hatred and fear!

Oh, la la la, di da da
La la, di da da da dum

Sing us your song you Tea Bagging men
Sing us your song tonight
Cuz we’re all in the mood for a melody
Sung by folks that are old, dumb and white

Obama Made Eradicating Osama A Top Priority. Bush, Not So Much.

President Barack Obama kept his promise to the American people that he would capture or kill terrorist Osama bin Laden. In 2008 he made a campaign promise during a presidential debate moderated by Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric. Barack Obama said,

“And we have a difficult situation in Pakistan. I believe that part of the reason we have a difficult situation is because we made a bad judgment going into Iraq in the first place when we hadn’t finished the job of hunting down bin Laden and crushing al-Qaida.

So what happened was we got distracted, we diverted resources, and ultimately bin Laden escaped, set up base camps in the mountains of Pakistan in the northwest provinces there.

They are now raiding our troops in Afghanistan, destabilizing the situation. They’re stronger now than at any time since 2001. And that’s why I think it’s so important for us to reverse course because that’s the central front on terrorism. They are plotting to kill Americans right now. As Secretary Gates, the Defense secretary, said, the war against terrorism began in that region, and that’s where it will end.

So part of the reason I think it’s so important for us to end the war in Iraq is to be able to get more troops into Afghanistan, put more pressure on the Afghan government to do what it needs to do, eliminate some of the drug trafficking that’s funding terrorism.

But I do believe that we have to change our policies with Pakistan. We can’t coddle, as we did, a dictator, give him billions of dollars, and then he’s making peace treaties with the Taliban and militants. What I have said is we’re going encourage democracy in Pakistan, expand our non-military aid to Pakistan so that they have more of a stake in working with us, but insisting that they go after these militants.

And if we have Osama bin Laden in our sights and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take them out, then I think that we have to act, and we will take them out.

We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al-Qaida. That has to be our biggest national security priority.

Later, as politico.com reminds us, “On June 2, 2009, just over four months into his presidency, Obama had signed a memo to CIA Director Leon Panetta stating,

“in order to ensure that we have expanded every effort, I direct you to provide me within 30 days a detailed operation plan for locating and bringing to justice’ bin Laden.

Then in September of 2010, during a White House news conference, President Obama reiterated his commitment to “capturing or killing” Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri.

I think capturing or killing [them] would be extremely important to our national security,” he said. “Doesn’t solve all our problems, but it remains a high priority of this administration.”

The Hill http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/118067-obama-capturing-…

On May 1, 2011 President Obama delivered on his promise when Osama bin Laden was shot and killed during a Navy SEAL ambush of his hideout in Pakistan.

In stark contrast to the priority of President Obama, former President George W. Bush’s commitment to finding and capturing or killing bin Laden waned with the passage of time and his inability to locate the madman.

Two days after the 9/11 attacks, Bush said,

“The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him.”

Shortly thereafter on September 17, 2001 Bush upped the ante and said,

“I want justice…There’s an old poster out West, as I recall, that said, ‘Wanted: Dead or Alive,’”

As Bush’s search for bin Laden was proving fruitless with the passege of time however, he began to change his tune.  On March 13, 2002 he said,

“I don’t know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don’t care. It’s not that important. It’s not our priority.”

That same day Bush added,

I am truly not that concerned about him.”

George W. Bush was not lying in 2002. From that point onward until the 2008 election he seldom ever mentioned the name of Osama bin Laden again.

OK then, now that we’re finished with that, let’s have some fun with a song parody. Please remember to click on the song link below to familiarize yourselves with the tune and to have more fun singing along with the parody.

BUSH TROOP

(sung to the television theme of “F Troop”)

The dawn of the Iraq War was near
When coincidentally
Cheney and Bush got the limits pushed
And commenced torturous brutality.

The methods employed often maimed and killed
Which pleased Cheney’s vicious group.
The waterboard trick both chilled and thrilled
Nobody was appalled they were called Bush Troop.

With testicle bites and really bright lights
Their victims sure took a lickin’
From draft dodging war hawks
Who are just chickens.

When killing and maiming get them down
They know their morale can’t droop.
As long as they own old D.C. Town
They are sure to resume with a bang and a boom
Bush Troop.

Revisionist Right-Wingers Fail To Mention Obama

If you were to believe the quotes of so many conservative right-wingers, you would think that President Barack Obama had absolutely nothing to do with the May 1, 2011 eradication of 9/11 mastermind terrorist Osama bin Laden. Many members of the GOP, including a good number of presidential hopefuls, have performed amazing acts of linguistic contortion so as to avoid mentioning the fact that President Obama is responsible for ordering the successful mission in which bin Laden was killed. Conservative political pundits have taken the same approach in an attempt to avoid that 800 pond gorilla in the room. These folks somehow praise everybody without even mentioning the current president. With all this revisionism, one might think that the conservatives are a little jealous that a Democratic Party president achieved in 2.5 years what Republican war-hawk George W. Bush could not achieve in over 7 years. Here are some examples of how they are ignoring Barack Obama’s role as Commander in Chief:

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN):  “I want to express my deepest gratitude to the men and women of the U.S. military and intelligence community. Their persistence and dedicated service has yielded success in a mission that has gripped our nation since the terrible events of 9/11. Tonight’s news does not bring back the lives of the thousands of innocent people who were killed that day by Osama bin Laden’s horrific plan, and it does not end the threat posed by terrorists, but it is my hope that this is the beginning of the end of Sharia-compliant terrorism.”

Presidential candidate Rick Santorum:  “This is extraordinary news for all freedom loving people of the world, and I commend all those involved for this historic triumph. Americans have waited nearly ten years for the news of Osama bin Laden’s death. And while this is a very significant objective that cannot be minimized, the threat from Jihadism does not die with bin Laden. As we were vigilant in taking him out we need to demonstrate we will continue to be vigilant until the enemy has been subdued.”

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus:  “Today is a tremendous day for our nation and the world, but most importantly those who lost loved ones on that horrific day,” said Priebus. “Justice was delivered to a ruthless terrorist courtesy of men and women of the United States military. For nearly a decade, literally thousands of American service members, intelligence officers and civilians have made it their mission to capture or kill the mastermind of September 11th. Tonight we honor their work and congratulate them on a job well done.”

Failed 2008 Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee:  “It has taken a long time for this monster to be brought to justice. Welcome to hell, bin Laden. Let us all hope that his demise will serve notice to Islamic radicals the world over that the United States will be relentless in tracking down and terminating those who would inflict terror, mayhem and death on any of our citizens.”

Failed 2008 Candidate For Vice President and Quitting Half-Term Gov. of Alsaka, Sarah Palin:  “Yesterday was a testament to the military’s dedication in relentlessly hunting down an enemy through many years of war, and we thank our president. … We thank President Bush for having made the right calls to set up this victory.”

Radio Host and Drug Addicted Racist Rush Limbaugh: (Sarcastically said) “President Obama – not a single intelligence adviser, not a single national security adviser, not a single military adviser came up with the idea of using Seal Team Six or any of the Special Forces. Our military wanted to go in there and just scorch the Earth leaving no evidence of anything after the mission. But President Obama single-handedly understood what was at stake here. He alone understood the need to get DNA. To prove the death, Obama alone understood the aftermath, alone understood that there would be doubting Thomases if the place was just obliterated and no evidence was to be found.”

Fox News: The Republican propaganda network broadcasted the following headline, “Obama Bin Laden Dead”.

All of this simply proves that there are some really strange ones on the right.

Strangers In The Night song link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDA33hGFNgQ&feature=related

STRANGE ONES ON THE RIGHT

(sung to the Frank Sinatra song “Strangers In The Night”)

Strange ones on the right,
Fox News romancers
Not so very bright,
With our finances
This Tea Party love
Should be viewed as taboo

Palin shouting lies
And fear inciting
Rand Paul is hostile
And so damn frightening
Boehner has no heart
McConnell has no clue

Strange ones on the right,
Abnormal people
They are strange ones on the right
Not one sane moment
They should be in a freak-show
Little do they know
It would just enhance our day
If like Bristol they’d dance away and –

On Fox every night,
They’re all together
Lovers on the right
In love forever
It’s an ugly sight
Those strange ones on the right

(witchcraft break)

Don’t look now just glance away
Here comes their jailbird Tom Delay

You can join their fight
And hang together
Only if you’re white
Birds of a feather
Taking their last flight
Those strange ones on the right

A Victory For Obama And Our Nation

The next time your hear some brain-dead conservative proclaim that George W. Bush also deserves credit for the apprehension of Osama bin Laden, simply show them this:

Welcome to your second term, Barack Obama!

Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 77

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful day! We also hope you enjoy this new “look” for this ever-evolving blog.

BREAKING NEWS:  At a New Hampshire Republican forum sponsored by the Koch brothers this week, failed 2008 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney defended the Massachusetts universal health care plan which he signed into law. This is a sure sign that summer is approaching because the Mitt(wit) has pulled his flip-flops out of storage yet again.

THIS JUST IN:  In another sign of democracy at work, a Michigan elections panel has voted to approve the language of a recall petition against Republican Governor Rick Snyder. Snyder is being targeted for promoting a series of initiatives that, in the language of the petition, “take authority and funds from local government and school districts,” gives emergency financial managers “the power to invalidate legal and binding contracts,” and “sought tax increases upon retirees and lower income families (and) large new tax cuts for corporations and businesses.” The recall petition follows on the heels of the numerous recall petions in Wisconsin filed against newly elected Republicans.

BREAKING NEWS:  Speaking of the new perils of anti-union Republicans, Florida Governor Rick Scott‘s bill to ban public employee unions from using automatic payroll deduction to collect dues is expected to die in the state senate because of a lack of support from GOP senators. It would appear that fear of the dreaded recall petition has crept south.

THIS JUST IN:  This week’s episode of “Everybody Loves A Racist” features Donald Trump. When asked during a radio interview about whether he is supported by African-Americans, the bankrupt billionaire boasted, “I have a great relationship with the blacks. I’ve always had a great relationship with the blacks.”  Also, John R. O’Donnell, the former president of Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino claims that Trump once said, in reference to a black accountant at Trump Plaza, “laziness is a trait in blacks.” O”Donnell also says that Trump once proclaimed, “Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day.” There is a lot more of this stuff but we will save it for a full post and song parody.

BREAKING NEWS:  Remember back in 2010 prior to the passage of our new health care reform law when Republicans peppered the air-waves with film of town hall meetings in which Tea Baggers, in a fugue of confusion, taunted Democratic members of Congress for daring to take away their Medicare? Well, the shoe is now on the other foot. As the result of the new Republican budget plan to completely privatize Medicare, those town hall meetings this year have taken a decidedly anti-GOP slant.  Rep. Daniel Webster‘s (R FL) town hall meeting last week featured a room full of irate constituents calling for the GOP to leave their Medicare alone. The tide is turning.

THIS JUST IN:  Republican Rep. Allen West of Florida is also facing the heat from constituents that are outraged at the GOP ban to dissolve Medicare. He has countered with a somewhat more brown-shirted tactic than most other Republican members of congress however. West simply has the police remove any citizen from a town hall meeting if they dare to vocally question him about Medicare. How is that for serving your constituency?

BREAKING NEWS:  A funny thing happened on the streets of Rhode Island last week. RawStory.com reports, Robert Watson, a high-ranking Republican state legislator in Rhode Island, is in hot water after being charged with driving under the influence of marijuana and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Drug charges alone would be bad enough for a public official, but Watson, Rhode Island’s House minority leader, is still remembered for his controversial anti-drug, anti-gay and anti-immigrant remarks. In February, Watson said the Rhode Island legislature had their priorities right “if you are a Guatemalan gay man who likes to gamble and smokes marijuana.” Hypocrisy remains a badge of honor for members of the GOP.

THIS JUST IN:  This week’s episode of “Strike Two – One To Go” features Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and her racist and discriminatory immigration law. The 9th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals has now affirmed the Federal District Court ruling which bans enforcement of the law which would force all darker complected citizens to carry their papers at all times to avoid detention for suspicion of being an illegal alien. The court held that the Arizona law countered federal law and may be unconstitutional.

BREAKING NEWS:  This week’s episode of “Sometimes Even The Insane Have a Moment of Clarity” features the very same Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer. Last week, while being interviewed on CNN, Brewer said that she believes President Obama was born in Hawaii and that the birther issue is leading the nation “down a path of destruction.”

THIS JUST IN: The jab of the night at the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner was delivered by President Obama. First, he singled out an unsmiling Donald Trump and credited him with making hard decisions — such as firing Gary Busey over Meatloaf on an episode of “The Celebrity Apprentice”. He then followed with, “Now, he can focus on more important matters like, did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac?”

MINOR SIDE-NOTE: President Barack Obama did what George W. Bush never could. He killed Osama bin Laden.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BOSTON BRUINS FOR THEIR VICTORY OVER THE PHILADELPHIA FLYERS IN GAME 1 OF THE EASTERN CONFERENCE SEMI FINALS!
