Mitt(wit) Romney Pathetically Pummelled In Poll

President Barack Obama is on a roll. In a carefully orchestrated campaign game-plan, he has been stealing the thunder from Mitt Romney and the Republicans on  issues of importance to key voting blocs in swing states and the nation as a whole. The results of Obama’s plan are now paying off.

In recent months the President has secured his rock-solid grasp on the support of the gay community by publicly declaring his support for gay marriage as well as by repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and ceasing enforcement of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). He has locked-up the female vote by means of his support of the Equal Pay For Women Act, his advocacy for the re-instatement of the Violence Against Women Act and his rule requiring health insurers to provide co-pay-free contraception coverage for women. Then, just last week, he solidified his already overwhelming support from Hispanics (and other immigrant groups) by means of utilizing “prosecutorial discretion” so as to halt deportations of undocumented children who were brought to this country at an age of under 16 years, have lived in the U.S. for at least five consecutive years, have graduated high school (or obtained a GED) or joined our military, have no criminal record and are under the age of 30.

President Obama’s strategy has worked. A Bloomberg national poll was just released which reveals that Barack Obama has opened a significant lead over Mitt Romney. Obama leads Romney 53 percent to 40 percent among likely voters (a 13 point lead). The poll of 1,002 adults has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points for the full sample. Questions asked of the 734 likely voters have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

The Bloomberg poll’s findings are at odds with other recent national surveys that have found the two candidates tied or shown a slight advantage for Obama or Romney. Nonetheless, Real Clear Politics reports that of the eight most recent polls, Obama leads Romney in five and is tied in one while Romney leads in only two. The polls which show Obama in the lead (or tied)  are Reuters/Ipsos, Monmouth/Survey USA/Braun, IBD/CSM/TIPP, CNN/Opinion Research and the aforementioned Bloomberg. The Polls which show Romney leading are Rasmussen and Gallup Tracking. The Fox News poll has the candidates tied.

It is  interesting to note that the Bloomberg poll reflects Romney’s weaknesses more than the President’s strengths. The survey shows Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, has yet to repair the damage done to his image during the Republican primary. Thirty-nine percent of Americans view him favorably, about the same as when he announced his presidential candidacy last June, while 48 percent see him unfavorably — a 17-percentage point jump during a nomination fight dominated by attacks ads. A majority of likely voters, 55 percent, view him as more out of touch with average Americans compared with 36 percent who say the president is more out of touch.

Beyond Romney’s low favorability ratings, the poll reflects perceived weaknesses for the Republican challenger both in style and substance. Only 31 percent of likely voters say they’d want to sit next to Romney on a long airplane flight, compared with 57 percent who prefer Obama as a seat mate. Furthermore, about a third of likely voters rate Romney best at understanding their problems and struggles, and dealing with world leaders, while Obama draws majorities on both. And just 34 percent of respondents prefer Romney to Obama in appearing regularly on their TV and computer screens for the next four years; the President is the pick of 54 percent. Obama’s favorability ratings are the reverse of Romney’s, with 55 percent of Americans viewing the president positively, while 42 percent don’t.

Additionally, the poll also undercuts Romney’s central argument for his candidacy, suggesting that his background as a private-equity executive isn’t seen by voters as his greatest strength. Asked to name the most important qualification on Romney’s resume, a plurality of 41 percent cite his experience as governor of Massachusetts, while 34 percent say it’s his business experience at the Boston-based firm Bain Capital LLC.

Finally, Fifty-three percent of Americans approve of the job Obama is doing in the White House — the first time since March 2011 that he has broken the historic 50 percent threshold for U.S. presidents who have won re-election; 44 percent disapprove of his service.

Well played, Mr. President. Very well played.

Mitt(wit) Romney’s Immigration Response: Flip or Flop or ?

What does Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney have in store for us regarding President Barack Obama’s recent policy directive ending most deportations of the children of illegal immigrants? Will Romney’s response be a flip, a flop or yet a new position altogether? All three of these options are most likely on the table inasmuch as the Mitt(wit) has already shamelessly flip-flopped regarding his stance his stance on immigration.

In 2007, Mitt Romney supported the McCain-Kennedy immigration reform tactic that provided a pathway to citizenship for those who entered the United states illegally. During an appearance on “Meet The Press” on December 16, 2007, he said, “My view is consistent with what you saw in the Lowell Sun is that those people who have come here illegally and are in this country, the 12 million or so that are here illegally, should be able to sign up for permanent residency or citizenship.”

Yet later in 2011 Mitt(wit) flip-flopped on his stated immigration policy position. On November 11, 2011 during a Republican Primary debate, Romney said, “To say that we’re going to say to the people who have come here illegally that now you’re all going to get to stay, or some large number are going to get to stay and become permanent residents of the United States, that will only encourage more people to do the same thing. People respond to incentives. And if you can become a permanent resident of the United States by coming here illegally, you’ll do so.”

If, as the saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words, then surely a video is worth a million pictures, so let’s watch Mitt Romney actually verbalizing his immigration flip-flop:

Of course those flip flops pre-dated President Obama’s immigration announcement last week. Last Sunday on “Face The Nation”, host Bob Schieffer asked Romney three times whether he would repeal Obama’s directive as president. As for Romney’s answer, The Huffington Post reports, “The first time, Romney ignored the question. The second time, he said it would be a non-issue because he would be able to pass long-term immigration reform through Congress quickly — something that President George W. Bush was unable to do, in large part because of opposition from his own party….On Schieffer’s third try, Romney went only so far as to say he’d consider repealing it. “We’ll look at that setting as we reach that, but my anticipation is I’d come into office and say we need to get this done, on a long-term basis, not this kind of stop-gap measure.'” How is that for a “none of the above” or “all of the above” or “some of the above” response?

For those of you keeping score at home, here are the rest of Mitt(wit) Romney’s flip-flops:

Abortion: (“abortion should be safe and legal” and “I will preserve and protect a woman’s right to choose”/”I am pro-life);

Support of Ronald Reagan: (“I was an Independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I’m not trying to return to Reagan -Bush”/ “Ronald Reagan is my hero”);

Gun control: (I support the Brady gun control law. That’s not going to make me the hero of the NRA” and “I have a gun of my own”/”I’m after the NRA’s endorsement” and “I do not personally own a gun”);

Climate change: (“I think the global warming debate is pretty over and recognize the need associated with providing sources which do not generate the heat that is currently provided by fossil fuels” and “I concur that climate change is beginning to have an effect on our natural resources and that now is the time to take action”/”I have to tell you with regards to global warming that that’s something, which you’re right, the scientists haven’t entirely resolved” and “Republicans should never abandon pro-growth conservative principles in an effort to embrace the ideas of Al Gore”);

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell: (“the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military”/”the last 10 years have convinced me that the policy is working and there is no need to change it”);

Health care law with personal mandates (He signed  the Massachusetts plan with mandates to purchase health into law and said, “If Massachusetts succeeds in implementing it, then that will be a model for the nation. I Like mandates”/ He now opposes the new national health care law with the very same personal mandates and says, “I will repeal Obamacare);

No-tax pledges: (in 2006 he referred to them as “Government by gimmickry”/in 2008 he signed a no tax pledge);

His father with Martin Luther King: (“I saw my father march with Martin Luther King.”/“I did not see it with my own eyes.”);

Minimum wage: (“I think the minimum wage ought to keep pace with inflation.”/“There’s no question raising the minimum wage excessively causes a loss of jobs.” );

Stem cell research: (“I will work and fight for stem cell research.”/“In the end, I became persuaded that the stem-cell debate was grounded in a false premise.”);

Campaign finance limits: (“I would like to have campaign spending limits.”/“The American people should be free to advocate for their candidates and their positions without burdensome limitations.”);

Auto industry bailout: (“I’m going to take burdens off the back of the auto industry.”/”Let Detroit go bankrupt. Detroit needs a turnaround, not a check.”);

Romney’s desire to serve his nation in the military: (“It was not my desire to go off and serve in Vietnam.”/“I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there.”);

Bringing Osama bin Laden to justice: (“It’s not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person.”/“He’s going to pay, and he will die.” );

The bank bailout: (“The TARP program… was nevertheless necessary to keep banks from collapsing in a cascade of failures.” /“When government is… bailing out banks… we have every good reason to be alarmed.”); and

Even his favorite book: (on 4/30/07 he said L. Ron Hubbard’s “Battlefield Earth”/ on 5/1/07 he said “Huckleberry Finn”).

Just make your mind-up would you please
You were pro-choice but you went back
And your health plan you now attack
So come on Mitt let us know
Is it “yes” or is it “no”?

Is it “yes” or is it “no” now?
Mitt you know that you’re in trouble
Cuz your positions more than double
So come on Mitt let us know!

Your indecision’s bugging me
(weird double-talk)
What is  your gun right policy?
(more weird double-talk)
What do you think of amnesty?

We just know that you’re really shifty
(yes, even more weird double-talk)
So Mitt Romney you know

You should cool it or you should blow!
(here we go again)

Is it “yes” or is it “no” now?
Mitt you know that you’re in trouble
Cuz your positions more than double
So come on Mitt let us know
Is it “yes” or is it “no”?

Is it “yes” or is it “no” now?
Mitt you know that you’re in trouble
Cuz your positions more than double

Mitt Romney Is A Mexican Polygamist

Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney  is a Mexican polygamist who should not be allowed on election ballots unless and until he proves otherwise with official documentation.

Donald Trump should immediately disavow Mitt(wit) Romney in light of the obviously deficient “Certificate of Live Birth” (i.e. short form birth certificate) released by the Romney campaign last week. As we all know by now, a “Certificate of Live Birth” is not satisfactory evidence of one’s birth. We learned this fact of course, from the “Birthers” who said the said the same thing about President Obama’s “Certificate of Live Birth” which he released in 2008. Also, as in the case of Obama, Romney’s “Certificate of Live Birth” reveals that he cannot be a “natural born citizen” because one parent (his father) was born in a foreign country (Mexico). This also proves that Romney’s father should have been thrown out of the 1968 Presidential election (and the country) back in 1968 when he ran for the highest office in the land. Where was the outrage then?

It is of no consequence if Romney protests that the State of Michigan does not release copies of the full “Long Form Birth Certificate” which it claims to have on file. The “Long Form Birth Certificate” is the only document which can be believed. It is obvious that Mitt Romney is hiding something if he refuses to obtain and release the Long Form. Even if Romney does somehow manage to release the Long Form however, it will either have been doctored by Mormons or be completely forged.

We also know that Mitt Romney was born in Mexico on a polygamist commune. This is obvious because Romney’s great-grandfather Miles  Romney led his family south of the border to Mexico to escape imprisonment in the United States for polygamy as he had 5 wives (Miles’ father had 12 wives). Later, Mitt’s grandfather Gaskell Romney was born in a Mexican polygamist commune as was Mitt’s father, George Romney. This means that Mitt Romney also has at least 5 wives but only declares his first sister wife Ann as his legal wife.

It is time for the American people in general and the “Birther” Movement in particular to demand that Mitt Romney be disqualified from holding office as the President of the United States.

The Great Pretender song link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1oJuwkXr0E

MITT IS THE GREAT PRETENDER

(sung to The Platters song “The Great Pretender”)

Oh yes, Mitt’s the great pretender
Pretending that he is so swell
His needs are such; he pretends too much
The truth he simply cannot tell

Oh yes, Mitt’s the great pretender
Romney’s true beliefs are unknown
Mitt plays the game; flip-flops without shame
With no firm beliefs of his own

He was pro-choice he had us all believe
But when he faced strife, he switched up to pro-life

Oh yes, Mitt’s the great pretender
His opinion changes by town
Mitt claims to be what he’s not; you see
He wears his deceit like a crown
Romney is a flip-flopping clown

In Mass., health reform was what he achieved
He now says he feels health reform needs repeal

Yes, Mitt’s the great pretender
Just switching positions around
Ol’ Mitt Romney is not what you see
He wears his deceit like a crown
Romney is a flip-flopping clown

Study Proves That Fox News Makes You Stupid

As if you did not already know, please be advised that watching Fox News makes you stupid. Indeed, the most recent (of many) studies reveals that watching Fox News actually makes you less informed than watching no news at all.  Repeat: People who watch no news at all are better informed than those who watch Fox News. Anyone surprised?

Business Insider reports that Fairleigh Dickinson University’s newest PublicMind survey found that someone who watched only Fox News would be expected to answer 1.04 domestic questions correctly compared to 1.22 for those who watched no news at all. Those watching only “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”answered 1.42 questions correctly and people who only listened to NPR or only watched Sunday morning political talk shows answered 1.51 questions correctly.

news
Thus, those who watched no news—answering questions by guessing or relying on existing knowledge—fared much better than those who watched the most popular 24-hour cable news network (i.e. Fox News). This is a follow-up to a 2011 survey of 612 New Jerseyans that found, among other things, that those who watched Fox News were 18 points less likely to know that Egyptians overthrew their government than those who watch no news at all.

Tuesday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 97

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful day during this unofficial first workday of summer!

BREAKING NEWS:  This week’s episode of “Creepy Old Fat Men” stars conservative radio shock jock Rush Limbaugh. Media Matters reports that last week the drug-addicted Limbaugh told a 14 year old girl who called into the program that she is a “Rush babe”. He then said, “See, folks, this program has no boundaries. We have people from all three sexes, we have people from all religions, we have people from all genders, all demographics, all ages. A 14-year-old Rush babe.” Ewww! After listening to Limbaugh, you feel like you need a shower.

THIS JUST IN:  Want to know how to lose the Latino vote? Just ask Mitt Romney. Talking Points Memo reports that Romney addressed a luncheon hosted by the Latino Coalition Wednesday. Immigration was not mentioned once, either in the address or in a pre-screened Q&A session. Romney’s lack of any reference to immigration on Wednesday was especially glaring given that the Latino Coalition has strongly advocated for comprehensive immigration reforms in recent years. The  the latest polls show Romney trailing with Latinos by the same disastrous margins that brought down John McCain.

BREAKING NEWS:  Speaking of Mitt Romney, he was given a foreign policy spanking last week by none other than GOP foreign policy heavyweight Colin Powell. In reference to Romney’s labeling of Russia as the United States’ “No. 1 geopolitical foe, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, “Come on, Mitt, think. That isn’t the case.” MSNBC reports that Powell added, “Let’s not go creating enemies where none need exist… let’s not hyperbolize the situation.”

THIS JUST IN:  Speaking of Colin Powell, did you realize that last week he endorsed gay marriage? The Hill reports that he said, “As I’ve thought about gay marriage, I know a lot of friends who are individually gay but are in partnerships with loved ones. And they are [as] stable a family as my family is. And they raise children. And so I don’t see any reason not to say that they should be able to get married under the laws of their state or the laws of the country, however that turns out — it seems to be the laws of the state,” during an appearance on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.” Good for you, Mr. Powell!

BREAKING NEWS:  Remember Newt Gingrich? before running for President he liked to brag that his business ventures pulled in more than $110 million over the past decade. Well, a funny thing happened on the way to Newt’s quitting the presidential race. Reuters reports that “the vestiges of this empire are mired in debt, as is Gingrich’s campaign fund” and they “are going bankrupt.” Gingrich, you might recall, told the American people he knew how to get the nation out of debt. Not so much.

THIS JUST IN:  Speaking of Newt Gingrich, remember when the philanderer’s personal financial disclosure campaign filing revealed he had a line of credit of up to $1 million with the store, in addition to a revolving charge account at the high-end Tiffany & Co. jewelry store? Well, perhaps Gingrich’s recent financial collapse has also had a negative effect on the tony jeweler. Tiffany & Co. cut its outlook for both sales and profit for the year, citing a slowdown in demand for its jewelry. As the result of that announcement, its shares fell more than 8 percent in premarket trading.

BREAKING NEWS: Best quote of the week: at an event in Iowa, President Obama said “Governor Romney came to Des Moines last week and warned of a prairie fire of debt, but he left out some facts. His speech was more like a cow pie of distortion.”

THIS JUST IN: This weeks episode of “Republicans Eating Their Young” features George F. Will. Thinkprogress writes, “During an appearance on ABC’s This Week, columnist George Will slammed Romney for sharing a stage with the self-promoting businessman. Describing Trump as a ”bloviating ignoramus,” Will said, “I do not understand the cost benefit here. The costs are clear. The benefit — what voter is gonna vote for him [Romney] because he is seen with Donald Trump? The cost of appearing with this bloviating ignoramus is obvious it seems to me…Donald Trump is redundant evidence that if your net worth is high enough, your IQ can be very low and you can still intrude into American politics. Again, I don’t understand the benefit. What is Romney seeking? ”

BREAKING NEWS:  This weeks episode of “Republicans Eating Their Young- Part Two” features Meghan McCain. The Senator’s daughter wrote a column in The Daily Beast this week in which she called out Republicans for their hate speech. She said, “Last week, I went on Al Sharpton’s MSNBC show PoliticsNation to talk about extremism in the Republican Party. As a socially liberal Republican, this happens to be a topic I know a lot about. On the show, I told Sharpton that many Republicans treat me like a freak, especially the extreme-right members of my party. I went on to say that I don’t understand the appeal of extreme bloggers such as Michelle Malkin and the late Andrew Breitbart. That’s all I said, but it only took a few hours before my comments were posted out of context on a variety of blogs that suggested I was viciously attacking Breitbart. My Twitter feed exploded with insults, including the suggestion that I should kill myself.”

We Can Work It Out song link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn_ZdX6nQvw

THEY CAN’T WORK IT OUT

(sung to The Beatles song “We Can Work It Out”)

Try to see Malkin’s way
All she does is keep on squawking till she can’t go on
Try to see McCain’s way
Just a kid foregoing all the love of neocons

They can’t work it out
They can’t work it out

All Meghan is saying
Neocons were wrong and moved way too far to the right
But Michelle is saying
McCain’s a kid that must learn to hate with lips locked tight

They can’t work it out
They can’t work it out

No one shall abort for it’s a crime
Keep fussing and fighting, my friends
G.O.P. group thought by Fox is fine
Broadcast from six till after ten

But to see Malkin’s way
So easy to tell that the far right is so damn wrong
She can’t see McCain’s way
And the chance that the right will fall apart before too long

They can’t work it out
They can’t work it out

Sight is very short in Malkin time
Nonplussing and fighting with friends
McCain’s only thought, not worth a dime
But she still “tweets” time and again

They should hit the highway
They emit a smell that is both ripe and very strong
Passing through a doorway
That will hit them in the ass as we shout out, “So Long!”

They can’t work it out
They can’t work it out

Scott “Nudist” Brown’s Tomahawk Chop Backfires

For the last month or so, Scott Brown, the Republican Senator from Massachusetts and his private attack dog, the Boston Herald (Republican) have waged a war against his Democratic opponent Elizabeth Warren as the result of her contention that family lore is that she has Native American ancestry. The Brown campaign and the tabloid have made countless accusations and written scores of articles (see here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here) in an attempt to smear the architect of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency. Despite their best efforts, neither Brown nor the rag have been able to show that Warren’s career was in any way advanced by her claim to have Native American ancestry. Indeed, every one of her employers has emphatically stated that they either had no idea of her ancestry or that it had absolutely no effect on their decision to hire her at numerous top level law schools. It now appears that the entire jointly executed smear campaign has actually backfired.

The Boston Globe reports that Elizabeth Warren “has pulled into a virtual tie with US Senator Scott Brown, according to a new Suffolk University/7News poll.” The poll reveals that,

“Warren, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has the support of 47 percent of likely voters in Massachusetts, compared to 48 percent for Brown, a dead heat in a poll with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

That is a significant shift from the last Suffolk poll in February when Warren, a consumer advocate and Harvard Law School professor, trailed Brown, a Wrentham Republican, 49 percent to 40 percent.”

Yes, the poll shows that Elizabeth Warren has actually gained 7 points in the poll while Brown is losing support all since the mud-slinging by Brown and Co. began. The poll was conducted between May 20th and May 22nd and will certainly “help Warren fend off criticism from political insiders who complained that she had bungled her response to the issue by not confronting it more directly.”

Importantly, “Forty-nine percent said they believe Warren is telling the truth about being part Native American, compared to 28 percent who said they believe she is not being honest and 23 percent who said they were not sure.”

Voters do not appear to be punishing Warren for it, said Suffolk’s pollster, David Paleologos. “I’m not saying there was no damage from the Native American thing, but if you zoom out to see what the net effect was, it was minimal,” he said. “What we can conclude is people do not believe it is a significant story. It’s considered a nonstory.”

Former state treasurer and  major GOP player in Massachusetts, Joe Malone said, “This has been like a fender-bender on the side of the road. They’re slowing down to look, but it’s not changing where they’re heading.”

The Hill reports, “In Massachusetts — where Democrats outnumber Republicans 3 to 1 but independents make up more than half the electorate — voters have a history of shrugging off scandals that would in other states prove fatal. Brown’s predecessor, former Sen. Edward Kennedy (D), survived the Chappaquiddick incident to win reelection for another four decades. Rep. Barney Frank (D) survived a prostitution scandal, and Gov. Deval Patrick (D) outlived a $46,000 Cadillac he leased with taxpayer dollars during his first weeks in office.”

The Boston Globe also reports that Elizabeth Warren “could benefit from President Barack Obama’s strong standing in Massachusetts, and the surge of Democrats he could bring to the polls in November.  In the presidential race, Obama crushed former governor Mitt Romney by 25 points, 59 percent to 34 percent in Massachusetts, a reflection of how far Romney has fallen out of favor in the state he once governed.”

Here is an interesting spot which appeared on “Morning Joe” yesterday where even former Republican Congressman and Scott Brown supporter Joe Scarborough was gushing over Elizabeth Warren:

Elizabeth Warren can now get back to forcing the clothing-challenged Scott Brown to talk about the issues that are important to the Massachusetts electorate. One of those issues is why did the conservative Forbes magazine name Scott Brown as one of “Wall Street’s Favorite Congressmen”?

SEND IN SCOTT BROWN

(sung to the Judy Collins song “Send In The Clowns”)

Claims he’s not rich
Poses while bare
Drives an old truck around town
Mitt Romney hair
This is Scott Brown

And with a kiss
Scott does approve
Of tearing Medicare down
He is a boob
This is Scott Brown
Yes. It’s Scott Brown

Made many stops on his book tour
But he refuses to reveal his child molester
Though he may molest again, Scott Brown does not care
Turns a blind eye
Brown does not care

Scott Brown’s a farce
His end is near
He’s not what the Tea Party wants…
Sorry, Scott dear!
He is just a clown
So Mr. Brown
Don’t bother next year

(plagiarism break)

Isn’t it rich?
Sometime next year
He will be unemployed late in his career
Yes, so long Scott Brown
We’re done with Scott Brown
Let’s stand up and cheer.

The Strange Awkward World of Mitt(wit) Romney

Is there any wonder that even most Republicans cannot identify with Mitt Romney? This child of wealth and privilege is so detached from the lifestyles of average working/middle class Americans that he appears to be some sort of strange space alien or one of those pod-hatched clones from the classic “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” film.

Remember how awkward it was when, while standing with a group of black children, he said “Who Let the Dogs Out”?

Watch back in 1994 as he was losing his U.S. Senate race against Ted Kennedy, when Romney awkwardly implies that a woman is avoiding him because she does not want to be seen while she “hasn’t got her makeup on yet”, when in fact, she does have her makeup on. (Skip to the 3:00 minute mark of the tape or just enjoy the whole awkward thing).

Haven’t had enough of Romney’s weirdness? Watch this.

But we digress. Let’s see the odd stuff Romney has been up to just this week.

You may have noticed that gasoline prices have been dropping steadily for the last few weeks. Apparently Mitt Romney is unaware of this situation. Just last month he said, “He (Obama) gets full credit or blame for what’s happened…to gasoline prices under his watch…” OK then. Romney dished out all kinds of blame while prices were rising, where’s President Obama’s credit while prices are falling? Mitt…Mitt… are you out there?

Yesterday Romney said, “I’ll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry’s come back…My own view is that the auto companies needed to go through bankruptcy before government help, and frankly, that’s finally what the president did. He finally took them through bankruptcy.”

Umm, not so fast there Mitt. The American people are not so senile that there their memories have completely faded. Everybody remembers Romney’s now infamous 2008 op-ed in the New York Times with the headline “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt”. In that column Romney argued that federal loans weren’t the answer to ailing automakers, and that companies struggling to stay afloat should enter a process that would allow them to “shed excess labor, pension and real estate costs.” Lending money to the automakers would be tantamount to destroying the industry, Romney wrote: “If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye.”

Guess what Mitt? The American automakers did get the bailout from Obama and the industry is now thriving. GM and Chrysler accepted federal loans amounting to $80 billion and without the large federal loan, the bankruptcy process would not have been possible since the government was the only entity with the capacity to lend such large sums. GM just announced record annual profits, and regained its position as the world’s largest automaker.

Mitt Romney is a weird awkward alien who hails from a weird awkward fantasy-land.

The Great Pretender song link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1oJuwkXr0E

MITT IS THE GREAT PRETENDER

(sung to The Platters song “The Great Pretender”)

Oh yes, Mitt’s the great pretender
Pretending that he is so swell
His needs are such; he pretends too much
The truth he simply cannot tell

Oh yes, Mitt’s the great pretender
Romney’s true beliefs are unknown
Mitt plays the game; flip-flops without shame
With no firm beliefs of his own

He was pro-choice he had us all believe
But when he faced strife, he switched up to pro-life

Oh yes, Mitt’s the great pretender
His opinion changes by town
Mitt claims to be what he’s not; you see
He wears his deceit like a crown
Romney is a flip-flopping clown

In Mass., health reform was what he achieved
He now says he feels health reform needs repeal

Yes, Mitt’s the great pretender
Just switching positions around
Ol’ Mitt Romney is not what you see
He wears his deceit like a crown
Romney is a flip-flopping clown

Mid-Week News Bomb

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful day!

BREAKING NEWS: By now, everybody should be well aware that Republican Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney is an animal abuser. It is common knowledge that some years ago Mitt(wit) strapped the family dog to the roof of his car for a 12 hour drive to Canada during which the horrified pet was so frightened that it soiled itself to the extent that diarrhea was flowing down the car windows. When Mitt(wit) became aware of the pet’s distress did he he help the animal and bring it inside the vehicle? Heck no! He simply pulled over at a service station, washed the dog down with a hose and strapped him right back up there for the remainder of the ride. Not only was Romney’s action illegal, but it was also inhumane. Well, the dog’s of America are now united against Mitt. They have formed a public interest group known as “Dog’s Against Romney” which has its own Facebook page. Check it out here.

My Marley Is a proud card carrying member of "Dogs Against Romney"

THIS JUST IN:   Speaking of Facebook, CNN reports that Marine Sgt. Gary Stein who used his Facebook page to criticize President Barack Obama has been given an “other-than-honorable” discharge from the military branch. An other-than-honorable discharge is given to a Marine who commits a “serious offense” that significantly differs from conduct expected of a Marine. Among other comments posted to his Facebook page, Stein called President Obama a liar and suggested he would not follow some orders issued by the president. He also said the President is “the ‘Domestic Enemy’ our oath speaks about.” Good riddance to this creep, the American military does not need this type of undisciplined person endangering the lives of his fellow Marines.

BREAKING NEWS:  Former lame and unpopular rocker and current conservative radio personality Ted Nugent was in the news again this week. Last week the shock jock was questioned by the Secret Service for comments he made in a recent NRA speech such as, “If Barack Obama becomes the next President in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year”, and “We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November.” This week Nugent signed a plea agreement with federal prosecutors admitting he illegally shot and transported black bear in Southeast Alaska two years ago. As a result, Nugent will pay a $10,000 fine and create a 30- to 60-second public service announcement about responsible hunting to run on his show every other week. Nugent will be banned from hunting or fishing anywhere in Alaska and on any U.S. Forest Service land nationwide for one year. He will also be placed on two years’ probation.

THIS JUST IN:  This week’s episode of “Republicans With really bad Timing” features Republican gov. Rick Scott of Florida. The ultra conservative pol vetoed $1.5 million in funding for 30 rape crisis centers in the middle of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. State lawmakers had allotted the money to offset an increase in need and a lack of sufficient funding for victim services. This is just another example of the ongoing Republican War on Women.

BREAKING NEWS: Speaking of crazy Republican governors, Wisconsin’s soon-to-be recalled Scott Walker is losing GOP support within his own state. The AP reports that Rep. Robin Vos (R-Rochester), Wisconsin State Chairman of ALEC, appears to be abandoning his support of Scott Walker just as the John Doe investigation into crimes committed by staff members during his tenure as Milwaukee County Executive looms ever closer to Walker himself. Vos calls Walker a “whack job”. Vos is correct.

THIS JUST IN:  Do you need any more proof that Republican Governors are psychotic? Ask and you shall receive. Case in point: Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant who this week said, “their (liberals) one mission in life is to abort children, is to kill children in the womb. It doesn’t really matter, they don’t care if the mother’s life is in jeopardy, that if something goes wrong that a doctor can’t admit them to a local hospital, that he’s not even board certified.” So, the Left’s primary mission is the creation of a world where all babies are aborted? The folks who vote for these crackpots are just as delusional (or more) than those they elect.

BREAKING NEWS:  The New York Times reports that the defeat of two conservative House Democrats by more liberal opponents in Tuesday’s Pennsylvania primary illustrates the strong hold the new health care law still has over committed Democratic voters. Representatives Jason Altmire and Tim Holden both lost in primaries to opponents who joined together with activist groups to pummel the veteran lawmakers over the opposition to the new health care law and climate change legislation — positions they had used to their advantage in the past to show their independence from President Obama and the Democratic Party. Let’s hope these primary election victors are also victorious in the general so that the House will have some more “true” Democrats.

THIS JUST IN:  Ann Romney is as out of touch as husband Mitt. At a Republican awards dinner last night she actually said, “I love the fact that there are women out there who don’t have a choice and they must go to work and they still have to raise the kids.” What? She actually “loves” the fact that not all women are rich like her and must both work and raise their children without having “the choice” (like she did) to do one or the other? Yikes!

American Woman song link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnluciYGFXg

REPUBLICAN WOMEN

(sung to the Guess Who song “American Woman”)

Republican women they’ve all lost their minds
Republican women, they’ve really lost their minds
Republican women they’ve all lost their minds
Republican women they’ve all lost their minds

Say “R”, say “E”, say “P”
Say “U”, Say “B” Say “L”, say “I”, say “C”
Say “A” “N”

Republican women they’ve all lost their minds
Republican women they’ve all lost their minds
Republican women they’ve all lost their minds

Republican women, stay away from me
Republican women, from the G.O.P.
You are someone I’ll just ignore
I don’t wanna see your face no more
I got more important things to do
And I will never be sold on you

Now women, I said stay away

Republican women, listen what I say

Republican women, have no dignity
Republican women, and their tea-parties
Like I told you the time before
Michele Bachmann is just a bore
Mann Coulter I do despise
Malkin has a lazy eye
Now women, I said get away
Republican women, listen what I say

Republican women, it’s clear as day
Republican women, they’re no Tina Fey
Talk about defending our shores
Their husbands prefer time with whores
Jean Schmidt always makes a scene
Sarah Palin thinks she’s queen
Mary Matalin’s hypnotized
Ingraham’s mouth is super-sized
Now women, from the G.O.P.
Republican women, mama let me be

Go, gotta get away, gotta get away
Now go go go
Gonna leave you, women
Gonna leave you, women
Bye-bye
Bye-bye
Bye-bye
Bye-bye
You’re no good for me
I’m no good for you
Gonna look you right in the eye.
Tell you what I’m gonna do
You know I’m gonna leave
You know I’m gonna go
You know I’m gonna leave
You know I’m gonna go, women
I’m gonna leave, women
Goodbye, Republican women

Newt’s Newest Lie Soon To Be Revealed

Remember when Newt Gingrich promised to stay in the GOP primary election race until the Republican Convention in August? If you do not, perhaps this will refresh your memory.

Well, it now looks like that statement will soon be revealed as just another one of Gingrich’s many lies. It will prove to be just as untruthful as Gingrich’s statement that, “The $300,000 I was paid by Freddie Mac were for my services as, uh, a historian.” and “When I was speaker, we had four consecutive balanced budgets.”  Still, maybe Gingrich’s best statement about lying was when he said, “Any ad which quotes what I said on Sunday is a falsehood.” So anybody who quotes Gingrich’s own words is lying? How’s that for twisted logic?

But let’s get to our latest news. The Huffington Post reports that despite Newt Gingrich’s vow to remain in the GOP race until the Republican Convention in August, it looks like he will soon quit the race. The blog reports that just yesterday in an interview with ABC News, Gingrich said, “I think we need to take a deep look at what we are doing”,  adding that he would then have to “reassess”.

Those certainly sound like “quittin'” words from the candidate who’s campaign is millions of dollars in debt and who has laid off more than one-third of his staff. Oh well, Gingrich’s vow to stay in the race will simply be remembered as just another one of his lies like, “The Obama administration … would impose on every Catholic institution, every Jewish institution, every Protestant institution the Obamacare standard of what you have to buy as insurance.”

Oh Newt, we hardly knew ye!

YOU’RE A HAS-BEEN, NEWT GINGRICH

(sung to the Dr. Seuss song “The Grinch That Stole Christmas”)

You’re a has-been, Newt Gingrich
You’re lacking in appeal
Your were ousted as The Speaker
No one wants to hear you squeal
Newt Gingrich

You’re a unicycle
Without even one wheel

You’ve had three wives, Newt Gingrich
A mistress in the hole
Philandering’s your day job
You’re a slimy ugly troll
Newt Gingich

These woman that like you, must
Be on work release or parole

You’re a vile one, Newt Gingrich
Your words reek with rancid bile
Your criticism of Bill Clinton
As you’re cheating all the while
Newt Gingrich

There couldn’t be a bigger hypocrite
Within a Midwest country mile

You’re a foul one, Newt Gingrich
Your first divorce smelled of skunk
Your wife, Jackie fighting cancer
You told her she was junk
Newt Gingrich

The nicest words to describe you,
Are, as follows, and I quote, Pink. Wank, Punk

You’re a coward, Newt Gingrich
Avoided your army spot
Deferment-seeking chicken-hawk
That likes to talk real tough
Newt Gingrich

Your soul is an appalling dump heap overflowing
With the most disgraceful assortment of Republican
Sound-bytes imaginable,
Mangled up in tangled up knots

You’re the racist, Newt Gingrich
It’s not Judge Sotomayor
You play the race card as a white guy
That’s so laughable I’m sure
Newt Gingrich

You’re a stinking pile of vomit
Sitting in the sun
With feces on top

Ted Nugent Should Face The Music

The fact that we are even commenting on Ted Nugent proves that this is a slow news day. After all, the aging former wanna-be rock star was not even very notable or relevant in his hey day back in the 1970s. He only had one very marginal hit song followed by a seemingly unending string of albums which were almost immediately relegated to the record store’s “discount bin”.

Following his dismal music career, Nugent became a fervent supporter of the NRA and the Republican Party. This makes perfect sense because Nugent is the model Republican citizen with his multiple marriages and eight children with three born out of wedlock. Like Republican Rep. Joe Walsh, Nugent was also a deadbeat dad who failed to pay his child support. Spin magazine even went so far as to include Ted Nugent in its list of the “100 Sleaziest Moments in Rock”. Why? Because in 1978, Nugent began a relationship with seventeen-year-old Hawaii native Pele Massa. Due to the age difference they could not marry so Nugent joined Massa’s parents in signing documents to make himself her legal guardian. Eewww!

Nugent is probably now known best for his violent and vulgar rhetoric directed towards Democratic Party politicians. For example, at a concert on August 21, 2007, Nugent made controversial comments about Democratic Party presidential aspirants Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and California’s senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. He complained, “Obama’s a piece of shit, and I told him to suck on my machine gun.” Referring to Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm (in office 2003-11), during performances he would frequently interject “Jennifer Granholm, kiss my ass” into his songs, and shoot an arrow at her likeness. In a 2007 interview, in discussing running for governor of Michigan, he stated that Granholm “is not doing an ugly job, but as the perfect woman, she is scrotumless”.

Nugent’s most recent spew of hate speak might land him in jail however. Last week while giving a Mitt Romney stump speech at the 2012 NRA Convention in St. Louis, Nugent said, “If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.” He also compared the Obama administration to coyotes who needed to be shot, and encouraged voters to “chop [Democrats’] heads off in November.”

It would appear that Ted Nugent publicly proclaimed that he would attempt to assassinate or do harm to President Obama if he is elected again. Or, as CNN’s LZ Granderson put it, “A man with a truckload of guns has threatened the life of our president while the country’s at war.” In retrospect the recent comment about Ann Romney never having had a paying job in her life seems to pale in comparison.

Granderson went on to say,

Nugent’s words were: “If Barack Obama is elected, I’ll either be dead or in jail this time next year,” which sounds to me like he’s open to directing his disapproval of Obama in a way that is violent and unlawful. When you see that statement next to Nugent comparing Obama and his colleagues to coyotes that needed to be shot, as well as the need to “ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November,” I don’t see how that rant cannot be looked upon as a threat on the president’s life.

Ted Nugent’s words did not go unnoticed by the Secret Service however. He has been called in to speak with members of the agency who are responsible for guarding the President’s life today. Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie confirmed that the agency was looking into the matter and said, “We are aware of the incident and we are taking appropriate follow-up.”

Looks like Ted Nugent may be forced to face the music.

RAT ASS FEVER

(sung to the Ted Nugent song “Cat Scratch Fever”)

Well I don’t know where Ted comes from
But he sure is dumb
Fits in with the G.O.P.
But I do know Nugent blew-it
And he sure blew it good
They give his songs away for free

Ted gives me rat ass fever
Rat ass fever

Well the first time that I thought it
Was on his radio show
Ted’s songs and his monologue did bore
He is nothing but a shock jock
Talking bout a race war
And calling Democrats “whores”

Ted gives me rat ass fever
Rat ass fever
Ted has that rat ass fever
Rat ass fever

He’s not too dangerous
He’s got no brain
Ted Nugent’s stra-stra-strange
No doubt about it
He’s been goin’ insane
Soon he’ll be sayin’ “bye-bye”
He wants Obama dead

(jail break)

He’ll be doing the jail tour
For the things he has planned
They might just throw away the key
No more hate speech on his show
Ted Nugent’s sure to be banned
It should be years before he’s free

Ted gives me rat ass fever
Rat ass fever
Ted has that rat ass fever

Rat ass fever
Rat ass fever
Rat ass fever
Rat ass fever
Rat ass fever
