A Few Tasty Tid-Bits On Which To Chew

While awaiting the outcome of the House Republicans’ internal civil war (Tea Baggers v. Entrenched Incumbents) to see if they can pass a debt ceiling bill which is nevertheless doomed to failure in the Senate, let’s take a look at what else is going on in the world of politics and punditry.

REPUBLICAN INFIGHTING CONTINUES:  Republican Sen. John McCain on Wednesday said ultimatums issued by many in his conference, like insisting on a balanced budget amendment to the constitution that he said will not become law, are “worse than foolish.” Today, freshman Tea Party backed Rep. Joe Walsh (you know, the fiscal conservative who is so conservative that he fails to pay his own child support) said, “Folks like Sen. John McCain have been in this town for too long and they’re the ones who have gotten us into this mess year after year after year. Folks like him … have no clue as to the troubles Americans are going through right now. They don’t understand this crisis anymore.” It is so satisfying watching Republicans eat their own.

MICHELE BACHMANN CONTINUES TO BURY HER HEAD IN THE SAND:  Despite the fact that every economic expert and financial adviser warns that a failure to raise the debt ceiling will have disastrous effects on the US economy including a devaluation of the dollar, rising interest rates, an increasing national debt caused by higher interest rates and a loss of faith from other nations, Michele Bachmann continues to insist that there is no problem. Today she said, “I do not believe for one moment that we will lose the full faith and credit of the United States.” She also said she plans to vote against the latest proposal from House Speaker John Boehner that would raise the debt limit and reduce the deficit. Is anyone surprised, after all Bachmann also denies the theory of evolution.

TEXAS GOVERNOR RICK PERRY DECLARES THAT HE WILL NOT MARRY A MAN:  In an interview today with Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, the potential GOP presidential candidate said, “gay marriage is not fine with me.” OK Rick, so don’t marry a man. Does that work for you?

NEWT GINGRICH’S CAMPAIGN SUFFERS ANOTHER BLOW:  First it was Tiffany-Gate when the nation learned that the self-described frugal fiscal conservative had run up a line of credit approaching a million dollars at the posh jewelry store. Next, virtually every one of his important campaign staff abruptly quit on him. Then we learned that his presidential campaign is over $1 million in debt. And today it was revealed that the man who proclaims that he will bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States has his “Newt 2012″ t-shirts manufactured in El Salvador. Ouch! Stick a fork in Gingrich cuz he’s done.

CAPITOL HILL TEA PARTY RALLY IS A FLOP:
Tea Party Express and the American Grassroots Coalition staged a really, really big Tea Party rally on Capitol Holl this week featuring such Teapublican heroes as Presidential candidate Herman Cain, conservative Sens. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Mike Lee of Utah. It has been reported by Politico.com however, that virtually no Tea Baggers bothered to show up. “At the start of the rally… there were roughly 15 attendees waiting to hear the conservative lawmakers speak. By the time the senators had spoken there were still fewer than 50 tea partiers in attendance. You will also recall that the annual Tea Party Convention was also recently cancelled for lack of interest. Looks like the Tea Party’s 15 minutes are officially over.

TEA BAG PARTY

(sung to the Ricky Nelson song “Garden Party”)

I went to a Tea Bag party hoping to make some brand new friends
But they became my enemies, those right wing racist men
When I got to the Tea Bag party, they all looked the same
That really surprised me, and no one had a brain

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

Crazies there from miles around, mostly with white hair
Locals brought their shotguns, there was hatred in the air
‘n’ over in the corner, not to my surprise
Sarah Palin sportin’ thigh-high boots while she winked her eyes.

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so they can go to hell

Lot-in-dah-dah-dah, lot-in-dah-dah-dah

Told them they were so wrong, Glenn Beck is insane
Drill Baby, Drill’s stupid,  and Palin is to blame
I said Rand Paul is crazy too, best not drink his tea
Then I told them things about Michele Bachmann they would not believe

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so they can go to hell

Lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah)
Lot-in-dah-dah-dah

Someone opened up a closet door and donned a white pointy hood
Punching his railroad ticket to Hell and just the way he should
If you’re goin’ to a Tea Bag party, I wish you a lotta luck
Bring a misspelled sign, use racist slang and drive a pick-up truck

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

Lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah)
Lot-in-dah-dah-dah

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

Sarah Palin And Her Devil Dogs (Update)

Lynnrockets will continue with some Halloween song parodies this spooky week. Have fun. Now, let’s get to it…

Sometimes we bloggers have to leave it to the professionals to sum things up in a truly enlightening way. Such is the case today for Lynnrockets. Please enjoy some excerpts from an article by Diane Roberts of the UK Guardian which “tells it like it is” regarding Sarah Palin, the “Mama Grizzlies” and the Tea Party. When you are finished, please read the whole article here.

“Former governor Sarah Palin says she’s a feminist, “Mama Grizzly”. She supports female candidates such as Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell, endorsing them, stumping for them, helping them to raise money. Along with Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Fox News regulars Liz Cheney and Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin gathers Tea Party women under the big bearskin tent of “conservative feminism”.

Precisely what “conservative feminism” embraces is not clear – it sounds like an oxymoron in the vein of ”jumbo shrimp” or “creation science”. Clearly, “conservative feminism” doesn’t mean support for working mothers: Bachmann voted against a bill that would allow up to four weeks’ maternity leave for federal employees. It doesn’t mean equal pay for equal work: Palin opposed the Lilly Ledbetter Act on the grounds it would be “a boon for trial lawyers”.

Equal opportunity doesn’t seem to matter much to them: Christine O’Donnell has said that she thinks women impede the combat readiness of the American military. For all that conservatives such as Tammy Bruce insist the right is more “tolerant” than the left, the likes of Palin, O’Donnell and Angle regularly slam “the gay agenda”. Though they snarl about protecting their “cubs”, they want to repeal the healthcare act, which protects children with pre-existing conditions from being denied insurance. And it sure doesn’t mean safeguarding a woman’s right to control her own body – they are so anti-abortion that they believe that a victim of rape should be forced to carry the child to term.

The reactionary end of the Republican party seems to be as dumb as a bag of hammers and proud of it. Jim DeMint, the senator from South Carolina and Tea Party godfather, wondered out loud if maybe gay men and single women who dare to have sex shouldn’t be barred from teaching in public schools. At a recent Delaware senate candidates’ debate, Christine O’Donnell was incredulous that the doctrine of separation of church and state was to be found in first amendment to the US constitution.

Most Tea Partiers don’t hold with evolution and don’t ”believe” in climate change, either. A recent New York Times story quoted various rightwingers calling it a “lie” and a “hoax”. One man said he “based his view on the preaching of Rush Limbaugh and the teaching of scripture”.

You’d have thought we had enough of arrogant stupidity in the Bush years. These people are not pro-woman. They say they want to take the country back; evidently, they mean back to when abortion was illegal, to when contraception was hard to get hold of, to a world of rigid gender roles and women being judged on how they look, back to when men were men and women were ladies.

The she-bears and their fellow travellers don’t do sisterhood. ”Conservative feminism” has nothing to do with empowering women in general, and everything to do with empowering these women in particular. They’ve ripped language away from meaning: they say they are pro-woman, but their policies are decidedly anti. As George Orwell taught us, war is not peace, and ignorance is not strength.”

Great article wouldn’t you say? Lynnrockets believes Ms. Roberts put it best when she says, “The Tea Party brand of ‘conservative feminism’ is a fraud. These people are not pro-women but reactionary – and really dumb.”

So, now that we have shown that even those “across the pond” believe that Sarah Palin and her ilk have the devil in their hearts, let’s have a song.

UPDATE

Fox News‘ Joe Scarborough seems to echo the UK Guardian. On his program “Morning Joe” this morning, Scarborough intoned that if only Sarah Palin hadn’t promoted the likes of Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell, Republicans would be on the verge of winning the Senate majority.  That was Joe Scarborough’s thesis on Morning Joe today, culminating in Scarborough saying that he hopes Sarah Palin “is proud of herself” for having killed the GOP’s chances. He also tried to ward off those oh-so-predictable Palinbot attacks by saying, “right-wing freaks, don’t email me going “you’re a RINO.”

Wow, is their one semi-sane voice on Fox?

DEVIL IN HER HEART

(sung to the Beatles song “Devil In Her Heart”)

She’s got the devil in her heart
But the rednecks fantasize
That Palin is a sleazy tart
But her politics just chill me

Her smirking glances
Vocal dances
She’s a lipstick wearing pig
She’s just so flirty
Politics dirty
She’s a wicked entity

She’s got the devil in her heart
And some tricks are up her sleeve
Palin’s a dime store work of art
A web of lies she will weave

I’ll bet she leaves that Alaskan winter snow
She’ll board a bus to be with Plumber Joe
Palin is quirky
Her future’s murky
Like the G.O.P.’s

She’s got the devil in her heart
I know, know, know Palin will deceive
Next she’ll be working at K-Mart
Cuz today she is naïve

Sarah’s stance is to raise finances
From her writing debut
She’s just as perky
As fresh killed turkey
As we witnessed on TV

She’s got the devil in her heart
I know, know, know  and I do believe
She fell right off the donkey cart
Sarah should be on sick leave

She’s got the devil in her heart
And she’s no angel we can see
She’s got the devil in her heart
No, she’s no angel we can see

A Waterloo For Jim DeMint And The G.O.P.

Jim DeMint (R-SC) poses for his Senate composite photo.

Remember way back last July when South Carolina’s Republican Senator Jim DeMint declared war on President Obama’s plan to reform health care? These were his words:

I can almost guarantee you this thing won’t pass before August, and if we can hold it back until we go home for a month’s break in August, Senators and Congressmen will come back in September afraid to vote against the American people. This health care issue Is D-Day for freedom in America. If we’re able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo. It will break him. (emphasis added)

Let’s listen to him in his own words:

Well, Mr. DeMint we were just wondering, but how do those words taste now? Unlike the honorable Allied Nations of World War II, you and your cowardly cadre of Republicans had a dismally unsuccessful D-Day. You failed to liberate your beloved and ignorant Tea-Baggers from the shackles of the more fair and affordable health insurance reform that was foisted upon them. Indeed Mr. DeMint, it was you that faced your very own defeat at Waterloo. How does it feel?

REPUBLICAN WATERLOO

(sung to the Abba song “Waterloo”)

My my, it’s Waterloo; Republicans did surrender
Oh yeah, and Jim DeMint has now been forced to eat his big words today
The history book on the shelf
Is always repeating itself

Waterloo – Jim was defeated, we won the war
Waterloo – Health Care Reform was a giant score
Waterloo – Republicans did not have a clue
Waterloo – All they can do now is try to sue
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Waterloo – Republicans facing their Waterloo

My my, they tried to hold us back but we were stronger
Oh yeah, and now it seems their only chance is giving up the fight
And Democrats are so enthused
We win every time that they lose

Waterloo – Pelosi pushed them out the door
Waterloo – Minority status ever more
Waterloo – Can’t legislate if they wanted to
Waterloo – Lots of Red states will be turning Blue
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Waterloo – Republicans facing their Waterloo

The Tea-Baggers are not amused
They’ll have to go back to the booze

Waterloo – Palin’s “death panels” just were not true
Waterloo – Jim DeMint’s feeding on his own shoe
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Waterloo – Republicans facing their Waterloo
Wooo-oo-oo
Waterloo – We did something that they couldn’t do
