A Tale Of Two Governors: DP (Deval Patrick) and SP (Sarah Palin)

Sine the late summer of 2008, Americans have been subjected to a near constant barrage of all things, Sarah Palin. On an almost daily basis, we have been bombarded with her indecipherable diatribes elicited via Fox News, Facebook or Twitter. We have also been exposed to her ridiculous catch-phrases such as “Drill Baby, Drill”, “the lamestream media”, “death panels”, “mama grizzlies” and “Don’t retreat. RELOAD”. All the while, the ex-quitting, former half-term Governor of Alaska has contributed zero specific policy suggestions or provided any credible evidence that her radically conservative tax-cutting and unregulated free-market capitalism rhetoric would have any positive effect on the nation as a whole or its economy.

In contrast, we have Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. Indeed not only has Patrick served his entire first term, but upon his re-election last November, he said that he fully intends to complete his full second term in office. Despite being a close personal friend of President Barack Obama, Patrick has unselfishly flown under the radar of the media spotlight and governed his state quietly to a position of leadership in job creation, employment, health care and education. During his Governorship, Massachusetts has either led the nation or been amongst the top 5 five states in employment, job creation, student achievement in both national testing and graduation at the high school and college levels and in ensuring that 98% of its residents have full health care insurance coverage. He achieved all of that while also balancing his state’s budget and without stripping public unions and employees of their bargained-for rights.

As we have said so many times in the past however, a video clip is worth a thousand a words, so let watch both Sarah Palin and Deval Patrick in action.

Now let’s watch Deval Patrick from just this past week. Lynnrockets apologizes for not having the video appear directly in this post, but simply click on the link below to watch the clip in a new window.

Deval Patrick and his leadership style are just a breath of fresh air.

Note:

Lynnrockets will be in the fair city of Montreal for the next several days enjoying some R & R with a few longtime hockey buddies. The timing could not be better as the Boston Bruins are facing-off against the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. Problem is, the Canadiens defeated the Bruins by a score of 1-0 last night in Boston. The Boston loss has denied the Bruins home ice advantage and denied Lynnrockets of trash-talking privileges at least until Saturday night. Here is hoping things turn around quickly in the hockey department. In the meantime, please bear (get it?) with us if posting is a little spotty next week. Luckily, we have the best house/dog sitter on the planet.

Please take at a look at my WRKO Boston talk radio-based blog also, too. It can be found here: Kevin’s Blog-A Liberal Dose of Reality.

My Way song link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6E2hYDIFDIU

MY WAY

(sung to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”)

And now, the end is near;
To all of you, I’m glad I met ya’
Alaskans, let’s make it clear,
Did I fool you?, Oh yeah, “ya betcha!”

You’ve met Todd, the “First Dude”,
His snowmachine is in the driveway.
Is he drunk? My God, he’s blitzed,
The D.U.I. way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
More than most, I will remember.
My lipstick and my hair-do
But most of all, 4th of November.

Each day since then has been
Another never-ending whine and cry day,
And I’ve been told by Newt Gingrich,
To hit the highway.

Yes, there were times, that now you know
I failed to declare “per diem” dough.
What’s this about “stimulus funds”?
Let’s just cling to, our God and guns.
Oh, I just winked and then I blinked;
And did it my way.

Nicknames, I’ve had a few
There’s “Caribou” and “Barracuda”
Now I’m known as “Sarah Who?”
Cuz Tina Fey is so much cuter.

To think I’m a has been;
And I can’t see – beyond next Friday
Woe, oh woe is me,
I won’t have my day.

For what is a gal, what has she got?
When her career, has gone to pot.
How to appear on nightly news;
When she’s inept at interviews.
She’s still exposed despite those clothes
Please hit the highway!

Yes, hit the highway.

Tea-Baggers Squeezed Dry In Massachusetts

Pres. Barack Obama and MA Gov. Deval Patrick

It was not all bad news yesterday. The Democrats lost the House as expected but they maintained control of the Senate. Consequently, there is no chance that radically conservative bills can emerge from Congress. Furthermore, virtually all of Sarah Palin’s hand chosen Tea Party crackpots lost. The voters said “no” to Sharron “2nd Amendment remedies” Angle. The voters said “no” to Christine “Masturbation is Adultery” O’Donnell. The voters said “no” to Linda “Women are Sex Objects” McMahon. The voters said “no” to Carly “Worst CEO in History” Fiorina. The voters said “no” to Meg “Illegal Housekeeper” Whitman. The voters said “no” to John “Lasers in the Sky” Raese. The voters said “no” to Sean “Privatize Social Security” Bielat. The voters said “no” to Tom “Let’s Bomb Mecca” Tancredo. And, it looks like the voters will say “no” to Joe “Dump Social Security” Miller and Dino “Repeal Wall Street Reform” Rossi. In short, Sarah Palin was “refudiated” in a big way.

Additionally, it is now apparent that Scott “Nudist” Brown’s Tea Party fueled Senate victory in Massachusetts last January was a fluke. Unlike most every other state (with the notable exceptions of New York and California), Massachusetts elected Democrats to virtually every elective office yesterday. Indeed, the state is bluer today than it was yesterday.

Brown’s surprise election was heralded (mostly by the Boston Herald Enquirer) as the beginning of a Republican revolution in the Bay State. He emboldened the state G.O.P. to challenge incumbent Democrats for the first time in decades. Problem is, the Republicans had no credible candidates. Additionally, Brown’s victory did not serve to energize the G.O.P. as much as it served to awaken and energize the hibernating Democratic Party voters who had become complacent after so many years of success. In short, Massachusetts voters vowed that they would not be fooled again. And they were not.

In yesterday’s elections, all statewide elected offices, including a closely fought governor’s race, and the entire 10-member US House delegation remained in Democratic hands, despite a national tide that left Republicans celebrating large gains last night. The Boston Globe reports that Peter Ubertaccio, a political science professor at Stonehill College said, “I don’t know how they view this as anything but a total disaster. I just don’t know what a political party does if all indicators across the nation, across the state, all point to a Republican year and they can’t win any races.”

Perhaps longterm Congressman Barney Frank put it best in his victory speech when he said, “The campaigns run by most Republicans were beneath the dignity of a democracy, and I am delighted they were repudiated.’’

Scott Brown's favorite birthday suit

Charlie Brown song link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UnPzp2lmNk

SCOTTIE BROWN

(sung to the Coasters song “Charlie Brown”)

Fe-fe, fi-fi, fo-fo, fum
He’s the senator that will bare his bum

Scottie Brown, Scottie Brown
He’s a clown, that nude Scott Brown
He likes to bare his bod
In those magazines
(That’s why everybody’s always pickin’ on me)

That’s him on his knees
I know that’s him
Yeah, from 7 come 11
Down in the Senate gym

Scottie Brown, Scottie Brown
He’s a clown, that nude Scott Brown
Craig thinks that he’s hot
He hopes to steal a peek
(Why’s Lynnrockets always pickin’ on me)

Who’s always nude at the roll call?
Who’s lurking in the men’s room stalls?
Who’s sporting his bat and balls?
Guess who? (who me?) yeah, you!

Who walks through the Senate dumb and slow?
Who calls Mitch McConnell, Daddy-O?

Scottie Brown, Scottie Brown
He’s going down, next time around
His votes can be bought
Just you wait and see
(Why’s everybody always pickin’ on me)

(musical interlude)

He is in the Party that says “No”
With his private parts swinging to and fro

Scottie Brown, Scottie Brown
He’s a clown, that nude Scott Brown
He’s showing a lot
His bum, his wee-wee
(Why’s Lynnrockets always pickin’ on me)

Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 56

Just a few newsworthy events (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful day!

BREAKING NEWS:  Jesse Ventura put Fox News in a death grip this week. On Thursday, the former Minnesota governor was a guest on the Joy Behar Show when he said this,

“He’s (Bill O’Reilly) a spineless puke. The whole Fox won’t have me on. The nighttime guys. I call them the three stooges, and we all know which one’s Curly. If Glenn Beck isn’t Curly Howard’s kid*…I view him and Hannity and them as the Three Stooges, because if they can’t intimidate you, they won’t have you on”

THIS JUST IN: Speaking of Fox News, two Republican insiders revealed this week that moonbat-crazy Teapublican Christine O’Donnell told them, “I’ve got Sean Hannity in my back pocket, and I can go on his show and raise money by attacking you guys.” Jeesh, talk about stating the obvious!

BREAKING NEWS: Motherjones.com reports that It’s fairly common for conservative political candidates to support eliminating the federal Department of Education. But in California, Tea Party darling and congressional candidate David Harmer has gone further. He’s advocated eliminating public schools entirely and returning education to “the way things worked through the first century of American nationhood.” You know, back when educational opportunities for poor people, African-Americans, women, the disabled, and others were, to say the least, extremely limited. Just another Tea-Bagging crackpot.

THIS JUST IN: A sure sign that aliens have invaded earth and adversely affected the minds of countless Americans is that whack-job Teapublican Michele Bachmann will report $5.4 million in 3rd quarter fundraising later this week, a figure that smashes records in Minnesota and appears to set a new national mark as well for Congressional candidates. Don’t go into the light!

BREAKING NEWS: A great limerick found on Madkane.com.

Open Limerick To The Anti-Government Crowd
By Madeleine Begun Kane

You folks who cry out for less gov
Have lots of gov programs you love:
You think Medicare’s great
And you’d surely berate
Any pol who gave SS a shove.

You hate taxes for highways and schools,
But you don’t want your kids taught by fools.
And you’re quick to unload
When your bridges corrode.
Please wake up — don’t be Tea Party tools.

THIS JUST IN: It is nearly Halloween and that means scary freaks and ghouls are in season. Need proof? Just watch Fox NewsGretchen Carlson and Laura Ingraham.

BREAKING NEWS: Not yet convinced that Teapublican Rand Paul is crazy? Watch this and then vote for Jack Conway.

THIS JUST IN: President Barack Obama came to Boston yesterday to raise funds for Democratic candidates and to stump for Massachusetts Governor, Deval Patrick. The best line of the event however was delivered by Patrick when he said, “Three years ago we worked hard to change the guard. Now we have to work hard to guard the change.”

GO PACKERS!

Every Kind Of People song link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tEH_YYqEH0&feature=player_embedded

EVERY KIND OF PEOPLE

(sung to the Robert Palmer version of the song “Every Kind Of People”)

The far right always competes
They all lie and then misspeak
Try to keep their jobs
Fighting to land a spot on Fox

It takes every kind of people
To make that right wing sound
Every kind of people
To vainly scream and shout

We’re not sure Glenn Beck can read
Is Ann Coulter a he or is it a she?
O’Reilly seems so damn uptight
Limbaugh cannot keep a wife

Though they profit by deceit
Honest men know that
Fox will suffer defeat
If you’re anything but white
Fox News will insult you with delight

It takes every kind of people
To make that right wing sound
Every kind of people
To vainly scream and shout

(musical interlude)

You know that hate’s their only goal
They learned that long ago from Bob Dole
Hey, and they are all insane
Looking to always pass the blame

It takes every kind of people
To make that right wing sound
It takes every kind of people
To vainly scream and shout

Every kind of people
To vainly scream and shout
It takes very kind of people
