Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 85

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful day!

BREAKING NEWS:  Has anybody noticed that Fox News has reported on the Rupert Murdoch scandal far less than any other cable television station? Could that be because Murdoch owns Fox News?

THIS JUST IN:  The next time some right wing conservative tells you that Medicare must be abolished because it is unsustainable, please remind them that “over the program’s 75-year planning horizon is less than 0.4 percent of GDP. This is less than one quarter of the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

BREAKING NEWS:  CNN reported that Democrats and Republicans squared off in the 50th annual Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park in Washington Thursday night. The Republicans never led in this one, falling to the Democrats 8-2 in front of more than 7,000 fans. How appropriate.

THIS JUST IN:  Moonbat-crazy Teapublican Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann announced on Friday that she has quit her church. Bachmann, a Minnesota congresswoman, and her husband, Marcus, withdrew their membership from Salem Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minnesota, last month, according to church officials. When asked about the Bachmanns leaving the church, Pastor Marcus Birkholz said, “I’ve been asked to make no comments regarding them and their family.” Have “the chickens come home to roost”?

BREAKING NEWS:  Business Insider reports that One of the most-respected and economically intelligent publications in the world, The Economist, has turned against the Republican party for its disgraceful behavior with respect to the US debt-ceiling negotiations. The Republicans, the Economist points out, would rather disrupt the US economy and put the country into default than compromise on a long-term deficit and debt reduction plan. This behavior is an abdication of the Republicans’ responsibilities as elected officials.  It puts the Republicans’ self-interest ahead of the country’s. The Republicans’ stance on the debt-ceiling has now gone so far, in fact, that the Republicans appear to be trying to disrupt the economy in order to improve their chances in the next elections, rather than address an economic crisis that threatens to affect millions of Americans. This is not practical or responsible. It’s also not patriotic. It’s traitorous. Jeesh The Economist, don’t sugar-coat it. Tell us how you really feel.

THIS JUST IN:  It was nice to learn that Democrat Janice Hahn easily won a congressional seat (recently vacated by Democrat Jane Harman) in California’s 36th District, fending off a special election challenge from Republican Craig Huey. So much for GOP momentum.

BREAKING NEWS:  Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich‘s campaign is over $1 million in debt. And this is the guy that was going to lead our nation out of its financial difficulties?

THIS JUST IN:  Here is moonbat-crazy Teapublican Michele Bachmann‘s gaffe of the week:

BREAKING NEWS:  Bristol Palin expects “more obnoxious lies” from Levi Johnston in his new book. Wow, if that isn’t the pot calling the kettle black. Remember, Bristol Palin said her “virginity was stolen”.

PAPERBACK WRITER (BRISTOL VERSION)

(sung to the Beatles song “Paperback Writer”)

Paperback writer (paperback writer)

Dear Todd and Sarah, will you read my tome?
It took a year to write while raising Tripp alone
It’s based on my life as a teen-aged quack
And a bunch of folks that I wanna attack as a paperback writer,
Paperback writer

A book of topics that I want a say on,
Which I wrote with finger-paints and a crayon.
Do not expect too much from this school drop-out,
I can’t read too well but I want to be a paperback writer
Paperback writer

Paperback writer (paperback writer)

It’s got twenty pages give or take a few,
And it has some pictures that Piper drew.
I threw in an old joke that my mom once told
It’s a real page-turner and I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer

I tell a tall tale about camping one night
I drank wine coolers and got high as a kite.
Lost my virginity, yes let’s make that clear,
That sure gave me a boost and now I can be a paperback writer.

Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 84

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful Independence Day weekend!

BREAKING NEWS:  The next time some unregulated free-market endorsing conservative tells you that the mortgage crisis was caused by unqualified (i.e. poor) homeowners, ask them why Bank of America (and its predecessor in interest, Countrywide Home loans) agreed this week to pay a whopping $8.5 billion to settle the mortgage fraud charges leveled against it.

THIS JUST IN:  It is reported by www.otherwords.org that every person in a county in Montana has a single-payer health plan in the form of Medicare for all. After the residents of Libby were victimized by a health disaster caused by a mining company which killed hundreds and sickened thousands, a special provision was written into the new health care law to ease the pain. “Residents of Libby don’t have to be 65 years old or more. They don’t have to wait until 2014 for the state exchanges. There’s no 10-year roll out for them — it’s immediate. They don’t have to purchase a plan — this isn’t a buy-in to Medicare. It’s free. They don’t have to be disabled for two years before they apply. They don’t have to go without care for three years until Medicaid expands. They don’t have to meet income tests. They don’t have to apply for a subsidy or pay a fine for failure to buy insurance. They don’t have to hope that the market will make a plan affordable or hide their pre-existing conditions. They don’t have to find a job that provides coverage. Now, if only the rest of the nation realizes how beneficial such a plan is, maybe that is the next step in health care reform.

BREAKING NEWS:  This week’s episode of “Do As I Say, Not As I Do” features moonbat-crazy GOP Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann. While the wacky Teapublican has forcefully denounced the Medicaid program for swelling the “welfare rolls,” the mental health clinic run by her husband has been collecting annual Medicaid payments totaling over $137,000 for the treatment of patients since 2005, according to new figures obtained by NBC News. How is that for Tea Party hypocrisy?

THIS JUST IN:  Maria Shriver cited “irreconcilable differences” in a petition filed Friday to dissolve her 25-year marriage to former philandering Republican California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. She won’t be back!

BREAKING NEWS:  The Washington Post reports that employees of presidential candidate Newt Gingrich grew increasingly concerned in recent years about their boss’s purchases from luxury jeweler Tiffany & Co., worrying that if he followed through on plans to run for president, it could become a political liability. Gingrich’s Tiffany spending has also been questioned by his Republican opponents. He has offered few details about his relationship with the jeweler or the purchases made. He is now known as Newt Blingrich!

THIS JUST IN:  Just wondering, but whatever happened to Joe the Plumber?

BREAKING NEWS:  This was an interesting report from NewsHounds: “Sean Hannity’s Great American Panel unanimously and emphatically broke ranks with Hannity last night (6/29/11) as each panelist agreed that Donald Trump’s birtherism was offensive and racist. Predictably, white-rights enthusiast Hannity argued otherwise. But as the panel continued to denounce birtherism, he said, “It never was my issue.” Hannity didn’t care to enlighten us as to the definition of “his issue,” but if repeatedly giving airtime and legitimacy to suggestions that there was something fishy about President Obama’s birth certificate – even after he had produced it – counts, then it certainly was Hannity’s issue. Of course, it’s also quite possible Hannity knew all along it was a bogus controversy but he was willing to cast aside truth, accuracy and evidence in order to hit at Obama. The fact that there was a racial angle to the whole thing probably made it all the more tantalizing.

THIS JUST IN: Fox News comment of the week. Headline: “Guard chief: Iran Can Build Longer-Rangemissiles.” Fox News comment: “An intelligent President would have already blew Iran off the map and not wait until they can pose more of a threat to other people. Nuke them.” “Nuff said.

BREAKING NEWS:  Lynnrockets’ idea of the week. Kill two birds with one stone and give Glenn Beck‘s former time-slot to Joe the Plumber.

THIS JUST IN:  What is the real story behind Sarah Palin and her alleged jury duty?

Loser song link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut5A_r5iiOg

SHE”S A PINHEAD, BABY

(sung to the Beck song “Loser”)

From the town of Wasilla, she’s like Godzilla
She’s lame in the brain and she endorsed Joseph Miller
With her winking eyeballs, Sarah loves those catcalls
Barbie doll shouts out to those G.I. Joes
On the far right they think she’s beautiful
Sarah Palin is a loser with no self-control
Sarah’s the Queen-O of the Tea Party
Just a bunch of dumb slouches marching to her beat
Pundits keep sayin’ she’s insane with no brain
Her daughter’s shotgun wedding was blasted into dirt
She writes crib-notes just below her sleeve
She was a Governor for awhile but she said she had to leave
She shoves her face in each race with her bark
Hates people with food stamps that live in those big trailer parks

Yo, cut it

Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(Double-barrel buckshot)
Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly

Palin is evil, thank John for this nightmare
Blasts country music in her book-signing chamber
Just a scheming weasel and she comes wrapped in a flag
Hails from the North Pole, this oil-pimping Tea-Hag
Loves her “Sixpack Joes” cuz First Dude has no job
Nothing more than Sarah’s house-husband slob
Sarah-baby pulls all of the strings
Snapped a turkey’s neck while she’s talking on that TV thing
She can’t write and she can’t debate
Stealing cash like a thief from her fans that think she’s great
Never bothers with any facts, … she’s wrong more than she’s right
While preachin’ to her minions

Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(She’s in the stardumb bizznizz)
Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(“Thanks but no thanks”)

Yo, bring her down

Soooooooooooo…
(She’s a liar, she’s a sinner, brings no hope or change, can’t you feel it?)

Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(She says, “also too”)
Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(Is that her baby?)
Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(Know what I’m sayin’?)

Strangers In The Night song link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlSbSKNk9f0&feature=related

STRANGE ONES ON THE RIGHT

(sung to the Frank Sinatra song “Strangers In The Night”)

Strange ones on the right,
Fox News romancers
Not so very bright,
With our finances
This Tea Party love
Should be viewed as taboo

Palin shouting lies
And fear inciting
Rand Paul is hostile
And so damn frightening
Boehner has no heart
McConnell has no clue

Strange ones on the right,
Abnormal people
They are strange ones on the right
Not one sane moment
They should be in a freak-show
Little do they know
It would just enhance our day
If like Bristol they’d dance away and –

And on Fox every night,
They’re all together
Lovers on the right
In love forever
It’s an ugly sight
Those strange ones on the right

(Tea-Bagging break)

Don’t look now just glance away
Here comes their jailbird Tom Delay

You can join their fight
And hang together
Only if you’re white
Birds of a feather
Taking their last flight
Those strange ones on the right

Newt Blingrich Gets The Boot (Again) !!!

Newt Gingrich’s days as a viable Republican Presidential candidate would appear to be finally over.

Gingrich of course, stumbled almost immediately out of the gate, after declaring in a May appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the House Republican budget plan to destroy Medicare was too “radical” and represented “right-wing social engineering.” He caught so much flak from Republicans across the board that he felt compelled to apologize to the plan’s author, Rep. Paul Ryan (Not seen as a very “Presidential” move). Indeed, Gingrich went so far as to seemingly flip-flop (ala Mitt(wit) Romney) and endorse the plan. He then made a fool of himself by issuing threats to any Democrats that might be so bold to use Gingrich’s “actual words” against him in campaign ads. Gingrich looked more like a lost child than a serious candidate.

“Radical Right-Wing Social Engineering-Gate” was quickly followed by “Tiffany-Gate”. It was revealed that Gingrich had purchased up to half a million dollars worth of jewelry at Tiffany & Company. To make matters worse, Tiffany had lobbied the agency which employed his third wife. Such lavish expenditures on luxury bling did not jibe well with Gingrich’s self-promoted title as a common-sense fiscal conservative. The ostentatious purchases also did not sit well with those hard-working blue-collar conservative members of the middle-class with whom Gingrich claimed an alliance. The financially struggling conservative masses could no longer be counted upon to vote for this Donald Trump wannabe.

Next, Gingrich was hit with “Abandon Ship-Gate” as virtually his entire campaign staff abruptly quit. Like so many rats fleeing a sinking ship, his press secretary Rick Tyler, campaign manager Rob Johnson, senior strategists Sam Dawson and Dave Carney as well as 12 other high-ranking staffers announced that they had had enough with their recalcitrant boss. Gingrich was left with the bare bones of a staff but he vowed to re-invigorate his campaign and carry on.

Problem was, Newt Gingrich did not expect to suddenly become embroiled in “Hands In The Cookie Jar-Gate”. Last week it was revealed by ABC News that “a non-profit charity founded by Newt Gingrich to promote freedom, faith and free enterprise also served as another avenue to promote Gingrich’s political views, and came dangerously close, some experts say, to crossing a bright line that is supposed to separate tax-exempt charitable work from both the political process and such profit-making enterprises as books and DVDs. The charity, Renewing American Leadership, not only featured Gingrich on its website and in fundraising letters, it also paid $220,000 over two years to one of Gingrich’s for-profit companies, Gingrich Communications. It purchased cases of Gingrich’s books and bought up copies of DVDs produced by another of the former House speaker’s entities, Gingrich Productions. ”

When questioned about the apparent conflict of interest, Gingrich told an ABC reporter, “I’m not concerned about that. The American people aren’t concerned about that. Try covering the speech.” Unfortunately for Newt however, the American people were concerned about “that”. You see, his political action committee was only able to raise a miniscule $ 53,000.00 in 3 months. The few donors remaining allegedly consisted of energy companies that are some of the nation’s worst polluters and a Dallas strip club owner who Gingrich once promoted as the “entrepreneur of the year”.

So, when fundraising gets tough, what happens? “Abandon Ship-Gate II” of course. CNN reported yesterday that Gingrich’s top 2 fundraisers suddenly quit. Fundraising director Jody Thomas and fundraising consultant Mary Heitman have now joined the aforementioned 16 other staffers to abandon the S.S. Gingrich. The big question is now, “Who (if anyone) is left on board?”

But wait! There’s more! It was also revealed yesterday that we now have “Tiffany-Gate II”. CNN reports that Gingrich had an even larger second line of credit at the high-end Tiffany & Co. jewelry store. Gingrich’s personal financial disclosure campaign filing will show he had a line of credit of up to $1 million with the store, in addition to a revolving charge account revealed last month. How is that for a double-dose of Gingrich fiscal conservatism?

It took only one so-called “Gate” to bring down GOP President Richard “Tricky Dick” Nixon. Can Gingrich survive 6 and counting? Don’t bet on it. Remember, Newt Gingrich also has an ugly political and personal history. He is the disgraced former Republican Speaker of the House who was forced out of leadership and his Congressional seat by his own party. He is also a serial philanderer. He has been married three times so far. In 1962, he married Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher. In the spring of 1980, Gingrich left Battley after having an affair with Marianne Ginther. According to Battley, Gingrich visited her while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery to discuss divorce. Six months after the divorce was final, Gingrich wed Marianne Ginther in 1981. In the mid-1990s, Gingrich began an affair with House of Representatives staffer Callista Bisek, who is 23 years his junior. They continued their affair during the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal, when Gingrich as a leader of the Republican investigation of President Clinton for perjury in connection with his alleged affairs with Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky, hypocritically called for the president’s impeachment. In 2000, Gingrich married Bisek shortly after his divorce from second wife Ginther. Gingrich converted to Catholicism in 2009 but many divorced Catholics are also upset with him as the result of his breaking of church doctrine by marrying after a divorce.

In light of all of the above, you can take this to the bank: Newt Gingrich’s days as a presidential candidate are numbered and that number is very small.

I Am Woman song link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGMESM8JKOg

I AM GINGRICH

(sung to the Helen Reddy song “I Am Woman”)

I am Gingrich, hear me snore
The G.O.P. showed me the door
In ’98, I was thrown out on my rear end
‘cause I called for a class war
When Clinton dallied with that whore
So what if I also had a lady friend

Oh yes I’m despised
And I caused a lot of pain
I’ve been married thrice
And I will wed again
Remember, “Contract With America”
I was wrong (wrong)
Now I’m invisible (invisible)
I am Gingrich

Now I’ve shown you that I’m tasteless
By calling Sonia a racist
When I’m the guy that bloviates on ghettos
My lies will grow much stronger
And my nose will grow much longer
When I start to call Sotomayor a “Hoe”

Oh yes I’m despised
And I caused a lot of pain
I’ve been married thrice
And I will wed again
Remember, “Contract With America”
I was wrong (wrong)
Now I’m invisible (invisible)
I am Gingrich

I am Gingrich don’t you know
Democrats know that I blow
Fox News spreads my fat visage across the land
And I’ll use those embryos
And those nameless “baby does”
If it helps me to advance my final stand

Oh yes I’m despised
And I caused a lot of pain
I’ve been married thrice
And I will wed again
Remember, “Contract With America”
I am wrong (wrong)
And I’m invisible (invisible)
I am Gingrich
Oh, I am Gingrich
I am invisible
I am wrong

(Fading)
I am Gingrich
I am invisible
I am wrong
I am Gingrich

Seccessionist Perry May Soon Replace Philanderer Gingrich

Philanderer and Secessionist

Lynnrockets is fully aware of the Palin email dump recently performed by the state of Alaska, but will refrain from commenting thereon until they have been fully reviewed. Who knows, there may be nothing “new” to review. We must admit however that a few comments like the one which spoke about verifying baby Trig’s birth date and the withheld email having to deal with “child custody” do peak our curiosity.

Until then, we would like to comment a bit more on the topic of the Gingrich campaign’s mass staff resignation and its possible ramifications.

As you know, earlier this week Newt Gingrich’s hopes for the Republican nomination for president suffered a severe and potentially mortal blow. As many as 16 members of his top echelon of campaign staff quit abruptly because they claimed that their vision of the campaign differed significantly from Gingrich’s vision. The aides also claimed that Gingrich’s present (and 3rd) wife contributed to their decision by injecting herself too forcefully in the campaign. Indeed, the “final straw” was said to be his wife’s insistence that Gingrich take a Mediterranean cruise last week rather than to focus on the campaign.

The most devastating defections were campaign manager Rob Johnson and Dave Carney. You see, Johnson and Carney formally worked for Texas Governor Rick Perry. Many now speculate that Perry may enter the GOP presidential race and his two buddies will now be available to commandeer his campaign. Consequently, Rick Perry may become a viable candidate just as Gingrich fades away like Donald Trump. Republicans however, should not get too excited, as there are many reasons why Perry will face serious scrutiny from mainstream voters.

ThinkProgress.org has provided a list of the top 10 things that Rick Perry does not want voters to know. They are:

(1) PERRY ALLOWED THE EXECUTION OF A LIKELY INNOCENT MAN, THEN IMPEDED AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE MATTER;

(2) PERRY WANTS TO REPEAL THE 16th AND 17th AMENDMENTS, ENDING DIRECT ELECTION OF U.S. SENATORS AND THE FEDERAL INCOME TAX;

(3) PERRY PROPOSED LETTING STATES DROP OUT OF SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICAID;

(4) TEXAS IS THE COUNTRY’S BIGGEST POLLUTER, BUT PERRY SUED THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR DISAPPROVING OF THE STATE’S AIR QUALITY STANDARDS;

(5) PERRY DESIGNATED AS “EMERGENCY LEGISLATION” A BILL REQUIRING ALL WOMEN SEEKING ABORTIONS TO HAVE SONOGRAMS FIRST;

(6) PERRY GUTTED CHILDCARE SERVICES EVEN AS TEXAS CHILDHOOD POVERTY HIT 25 PERCENT;

(7) PERRY WAS A STRONG SUPPORTER OF TEXAS’S ANTI-SODOMY LAWS;

(8) PERRY IS A STIMULUS HYPOCRITE WHO LOUDLY CRITICIZED FEDERAL RECOVERY MONEY BUT USED IT TO BALANCE HIS STATE’S BUDGET;

(9) PERRY SAID THAT TEXAS MIGHT HAVE TO SECEDE FROM THE UNITED STATES; and

(10) DESPITE HAVING THE WORST UNINSURED RATE IN THE COUNTRY, PERRY CLAIMS THAT TEXAS HAS “THE BEST HEALTH CARE IN THE COUNTRY”.

For a more thorough discussion of these repulsive policy policy decisions, please read the full Think Progress article here.

Newt Gets The Boot!

Rats fleeing the S.S. Gingrich

The AP is reporting that Newt Gingrich’s campaign manager and numerous other key aides have resigned together. Gingrich press spokesman Rick Tyler told The Associated Press that he’s resigned along with campaign manager Rob Johnson, as well as senior strategists Sam Dawson and Dave Carney. Also quitting were early primary state key consultants Katon Dwason in South Carolina and Craig Schoenfeld in Iowa.

Polico.com reports that one official said the last straw came when Gingrich went forward with taking a long-planned cruise with his wife last week in the Greek isles.

Gingrich of course, stumbled almost immediately out of the gate, after declaring in a May appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the House Republican budget plan was too “radical” and represented “right-wing social engineering.” It was then revelaed that he had purchased up to half a million dollars worth of jewelry at Tiffany & Company which had lobbied the agency which employed his third wife. Politico.com states that after his bumpy start, rumors began to circulate in the political community the former House speaker’s days as a candidate were numbered. The collective decision by his high command to quit makes it likely that his demise will be hastened.

This is a crushing blow to the thrice-married bling-buying Republican’s hopes for a presidential nomination. So long Newt, we hardly knew ye.

You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch song link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzXKWKaxt3c

YOU’RE A HAS-BEEN, NEWT GINGRICH

(sung to the Dr. Seuss song “The Grinch That Stole Christmas”)

You’re a has-been, Newt Gingrich
You’re lacking in appeal
Your were ousted as The Speaker
No one wants to hear you squeal
Newt Gingrich

You’re a unicycle
Without even one wheel

You’ve had three wives, Newt Gingrich
A mistress in the hole
Philandering’s your day job
You’re a slimy ugly troll
Newt Gingich

These woman that like you, must
Be on work release or parole

You’re a vile one, Newt Gingrich
Your words reek with rancid bile
Your criticism of Bill Clinton
As you’re cheating all the while
Newt Gingrich

There couldn’t be a bigger hypocrite
Within a Midwest country mile

You’re a foul one, Newt Gingrich
Your first divorce smelled of skunk
Your wife, Jackie fighting cancer
You told her she was junk
Newt Gingrich

The nicest words to describe you,
Are, as follows, and I quote, Pink. Wank, Punk

You’re a coward, Newt Gingrich
Avoided your army spot
Deferment-seeking chicken-hawk
That likes to talk real tough
Newt Gingrich

Your soul is an appalling dump heap overflowing
With the most disgraceful assortment of Republican
Sound-bytes imaginable,
Mangled up in tangled up knots

You’re the racist, Newt Gingrich
It’s not Judge Sotomayor
You play the race card as a white guy
That’s so laughable I’m sure
Newt Gingrich

You’re a stinking pile of vomit
Sitting in the sun
With feces on top

Newt Blingrich Strikes Again!

First it was MedicareGate when Newt Gingrich was lambasted by Republicans nationwide when he stated that Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) Medicare Destruction Bill was an undesirable form of “right-wing social engineering”. Now it is TiffanyGate since it was discovered that Gingrich had charged as much as half a million dollars for jewelry at Tiffany & Co. Suffice to say, Gingrich’s fledgling Republican presidential campaign has not had a very good week.

It is not as if Gingrich did not already have plenty of problems. He is of course, the disgraced former Republican Speaker of the House that was forced out of leadership and his Congressional seat by his own party.

Now this Tiffany story is growing many troublesome legs. First of all, the average working-class American whom Gingrich claims to identify with does not have a home worth $ 500,000.00 let alone that type of jewelry. Gingrich claims that he lives frugally but the average American will not consider such large expenditures on luxury items as frugal behavior. To be a fiscal conservative is not be an excessive collector of bling.

Now TiffanyGate has taken on another interesting twist. The Spy Talk blog reports that at the same time that Tiffany & Co. was extending an interest-free line of credit to Newt Gingrich’s wife, Callista, the big-name jeweler was spending major money trying to influence the congressional committee where she worked. “Tiffany’s annual lobbying expenditures rose from about $100,000 to $360,000 between 2005 and 2009, according to records assembled by the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan government watchdog organization,” Spy Talk’s Jeff Stein wrote. Can you say “conflict of interest”?

Is that the proverbial fat lady who I can hearing singing?

NEWT, HE HAS AN EYE FOR DIAMONDS

(sung to the Beatles song “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”)

Picture Gingrich with a ring on his finger
It sparkles and gleams and it’s supersized
Newt claims to be frugal, he claims to be holy
A Catholic with so many wives

Emerald bracelets so shiny and green
Coaxing a woman to bed
But when a new lassie catches Newt’s sly eye
She’ll be gone!

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds, ah

Newt collects wives by the bunch, are you countin’
With Tiffany bling on account which he buys
Gingrich just smiles as he shops there for hours
His bills are incredibly high

Millionaire tax cuts help Gingrich for sure
That‘s the Republican way
Gingrich won’t mix with the working-class crowd
They’re his pawns!

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds, ah

Thinks of himself as the brain of our nation
He’ll secure our borders and safeguard our skies
Nevertheless Newt’s destined for the junk-pile
Our nation hates wife-cheating guys!

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds, ah

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds, ah

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds, ah

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds

Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 79

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful day!

BREAKING NEWS:  Newsone.com reports, “The Tea Party of Tennessee wants to remove incidents of slavery and genocide from American textbooks for fear they would besmirch the image of the Founding Fathers.” Anyone surprised?

THIS JUST IN:  Not only did we learn this week that Republican presidential candidate and serial philanderer Newt Gingrich owns business which failed to pay taxes in four states. It was also revealed by Politico.com that six years ago he owed between $250,000.00 and $500,000.00 to Tiffany’s jewelers. It sure takes a lot of money to keep three wives and who knows how many mistresses bathed in bling!

BREAKING NEWS:  The next time some Teapublican tells you that it would be a mistake to raise the debt ceiling, remind them that in 1983 Ronald Reagan said this,

“The full consequences of a default — or even the serious prospect of default — by the United States are impossible to predict and awesome to contemplate. Denigration of the full faith and credit of the United States would have substantial effects on the domestic financial markets and the value of the dollar in exchange markets. The Nation can ill afford to allow such a result. The risks, the costs, the disruptions, and the incalculable damage lead me to but one conclusion: the Senate must pass this legislation before the Congress adjourns.”

THIS JUST IN: California may be following in the footsteps of Vermont regarding health care. The California Universal Healthcare Act was introduced by Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco. The bill would initiate single-payer universal health care for the state of California. Now that is change we can believe in!

BREAKING NEWS:  In light of the news about Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s illicit “love child”, we can now add his name to the list of philandering “family values” Republicans which includes John Ensign, John McCain, Larry Craig, David Vitter, Mark Sanford, Ronald Reagan, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, Mark Foley, Glenn Murphy, Bob Allen, Paul Stanley and Mike Duvall. Keep doing the good Lord’s work you guys!

THIS JUST IN:  This week’s episode of “Jon Stewart And Why We Love This Guy” features who else but Jon Stewart of The Daily Show and Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum. For a good laugh, Stewart asks us to “Google” the name “Santorum”. Go ahead. Give it a try.

BREAKING NEWS:  This week’s episode of “Republican Hypocrisy” is brought to us by bluemassgroup.com and stars senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Tom Coburn (R-OK), Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Johnny Isakson (R-GA). Each of these senators had pledged to never filibuster a judicial nominee. Each of these senators voted to filibuster the nomination of Goodwin Liu to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit last week.

THIS JUST IN:  Quote of the week. While describing the GOP backlash against Newt Gingrich for advocating personal mandates for health insurance, Stephen Colbert said,

“They spanked Newt’s ass until it was so pink and swollen it looked like Newt’s face.”

BREAKING NEWS:  Moonbat-crazy Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul appeared on Fox News Sunday last weekend and claimed that Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional and then he compared them to slavery. here is a bit of his interview with Mike Wallace:

WALLACE: You talk a lot about the Constitution. You say Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid are all unconstitutional.

PAUL: Technically, they are. … There’s no authority [in the Constitution]. Article I, Section 8 doesn’t say I can set up an insurance program for people. What part of the Constitution are you getting it from? The liberals are the ones who use this General Welfare Clause. … That is such an extreme liberal viewpoint that has been mistaught in our schools for so long and that’s what we have to reverse—that very notion that you’re presenting.

WALLACE: Congressman, it’s not just a liberal view. It was the decision of the Supreme Court in 1937 when they said that Social Security was constitutional under Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.

PAUL: And the Constitution and the courts said slavery was legal to, and we had to reverse that.

A video clip is worth a thousand words, so let’s watch it, shall we?

Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 76

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful day!

BREAKING NEWS: This week’s episode of “Tolerance In Action” features potential GOP candidate for President, Newt Gingrich. Think Progress reports that the Associated Press revealed that one of the cogs in Newt Gingrich’s vast network of business enterprises and front groups, ReAL Action, provided $125,000 to the American Family Association Action, an anti-gay activist organization that has been officially labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The group’s outspoken policy directory Bryan Fischer has “proposed criminalizing homosexual behavior” and has even advocated forcing gays into “reparative” therapy.

THIS JUST IN:  Glenn Beck‘s program on Fox News was mercifully terminated last week and as a result thereof, millions of Americans will no longer be subjected to his vile and racist hate-speak and his on-air mental breakdown. MediaMatters For America has compiled a very comprehensive list of “The 50 Worst Things Glenn Beck Said On Fox News”. Check it out because it is quite eye-opening.

BREAKING NEWS: Think Progress reports Democrats and labor activists are ready to file another recall petition in Wisconsin, as they are expected to submit nearly 24,000 signatures against state Sen. Randy Hopper (R). Only about 15,000 signatures are needed to successfully trigger a recall. It will mark the second time in less than a week that a recall petition has been successfully filed against a Wisconsin Senate Republican, after organizers submitted about 22,000 signatures against Sen. Dan Kapanke (R) last Friday. Among the signatures may be those of Hopper’s former maid and his estranged wife. (Hopper is reportedly having an affair with a former staffer and now lives outside of his district.) His wife has even indicated that she will contribute to whomever runs against Hopper in a recall election. Revenge of course, is best served cold!

THIS JUST IN: Remember all that Republican talk last election season about their focus being on job creation? Well, Republican Rep. Paul Ryan (WI) unveiled his draconian budget resolution bill last week which not only would drastically cut Medicaid benefits and inflict enormous hardship on the most vulnerable populations in society by depriving them of access to basic health care. It would also cause the loss of nearly two million private sector jobs. See this report of The Economic Policy Institute. So much for the GOP commitment to job creation!

BREAKING NEWS: It is nice to see that some Florida voters have finally awakened to smell the coffee. News4Jax.com reports that Republican voters who once favored Gov. Rick Scott said they’re suffering from voter’s remorse. To ease their worries, a group of card-carrying Republicans went to the Duval County Supervisor of Elections office Thursday to switch their party affiliation. In a recent Quinnipiac survey, only 35 percent of registered voters in Florida questioned gave Scott a positive job approval rating. The common reasons given by those who disapprove of Scott’s job so far are Florida’s slumping economy and the governor’s hard-right governing style.

THIS JUST IN: This week’s episode of “Bad Decisions Have Consequences” features the newly elected Teapublican Governor of Maine, Paul LePage. In a bold attack against organized labor, LePage has ordered the removal from a state office building of a large mural depicting the state’s labor history. In response, the U.S. Department of Labor has demanded a refund of the approximately $ 60,000.00 of federal money that paid for it.

BREAKING NEWS: This week’s episode of “Fox News Gets A Pie In The Face” features who else but Fox News. Watch these buffoons try to gloat over the allegation that NBC News (owned by GE) did not report on the fact that GE paid no income tax last year. Continue to watch as they are informed that NBC news did, in fact,  cover the story. At about the 1:30 minute mark the whole discussion breaks down and the story is cut. How embarrassing and amateurish for an allegedly “fair and balanced” news network!

THIS JUST IN: Of course the most important and most widely covered news story of the week was the battle over the fiscal year 2011 budget which culminated in a bi-partisan compromise agreement which will be signed by the President tomorrow. In light of its importance and domination of the news cycle, the budget battle itself probably does not belong in this recap of  weekly events that “may have escaped your attention”. What you may have missed however, was the Tea Party‘s position and reaction both prior to and subsequent to the budget compromise. The Tea Baggers seriously expected that they would either achieve their draconian and unrealistic goal of cutting $ 100 Billion from the 2011 budget, de-funding Planned Parenthood, National Public Radio, the entire health care reform law which they refer to as ObamaCare and taking regulatory authority away from the EPA, or in the alternative, shutting down the government. Indeed scores of  Teapublicans and their servile representatives in the House gathered at the Capitol and chanted “Shut It Down!” for the last several days. Unfortunately for them, the Teapublicans lost on all counts as none of those things were included in the final budget and the government did not shut down. Consequently, the Tea Party’s irrational anger has now turned inward and they are clamoring for the removal of House Speaker John Boehner and every other mainstream Republican that dared to compromise with Democrats. As we have said so many times in the past, there is nothing more enjoyable than watching conservatives eat their young!

TEA BAG PARTY

(sung to the Ricky Nelson song “Garden Party”)

I went to a Tea Bag party hoping to make some brand new friends
But they became my enemies, those right wing racist men
When I got to the Tea Bag party, they all looked the same
That really surprised me, and no one had a brain

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

Crazies there from miles around, mostly with white hair
Locals brought their shotguns, there was hatred in the air
‘n’ over in the corner, not to my surprise
Sarah Palin sportin’ thigh-high boots while she winked her eyes.

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so they can go to hell

Lot-in-dah-dah-dah, lot-in-dah-dah-dah

Told them they were so wrong, Glenn Beck is insane
Drill Baby, Drill’s stupid,  and Palin is to blame
I said Rand Paul is crazy too, best not drink his tea
Then I told them things about Michele Bachmann they would not believe

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so they can go to hell

Lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah)
Lot-in-dah-dah-dah

Someone opened up a closet door and donned a white pointy hood
Punching his railroad ticket to Hell and just the way he should
If you’re goin’ to a Tea Bag party, I wish you a lotta luck
Bring a misspelled sign, use racist slang and drive a pick-up truck

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

Lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah)
Lot-in-dah-dah-dah

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

Lynnrockets Unveils “Kevin’s Blog – A Liberal Dose Of Reality”

Lynnrockets with an unlikely friend

Lynnrockets is back. The weekend with Canadian buddies turned into somewhat of a lost weekend. Now that the cobwebs have cleared it is time to get back to work. As many of you already know, I won (with the help of you Rocketeers) a contest to be the liberal political blogger for Boston talk radio station WRKO 680 AM. Well, today is the day that the blog debuted. It was not an easy transition. The process involved many meetings with the station brass and I am still struggling to learn the workings of the station’s blogging program. That being said, you can find my radio blog here. I would truly appreciate it if some of you could venture over to that site and leave a comment or two so that it can get up off the ground. I know that I can count on you.

Here is the post which is presently on www.wrko.com/blog/kevin:

Hello folks. My name is Kevin McCarthy and yes, I am a Democrat. The Democrat is by far the most abundant life form on the Massachusetts terra firma but he is a rare and endangered species on the airwaves these days. Take a look at this radio station’s daily lineup of hosts and you will discover the existence of just one pseudo-Democrat in the lot. The same can be said of Boston’s only other major talk radio station over on the FM band. They are both chock-full of local Teapublicans. In contrast, Boston’s only liberal station is hampered by weak signal strength and a lineup which lacks local talent and consists almost entirely of nationally syndicated hosts. In short, like Rodney Dangerfield, the Massachusetts Democrat “gets no respect” on the air.

Until now. WRKO, to its credit, has done something to even the playing field just a little bit. The station has been gracious enough to allow me the opportunity to spout-off on this blog. Please be forewarned that most of the satire, humor and vitriolic content of this blog will be knowingly and purposely aimed and directed at the conservative right-wing members of the Grand Old Party, their alter-ego the Tea Party and those members of the media that support them. In other words, if you do not like the thought of the likes of Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter being barbecued before your eyes, then now is the time to leave and never return. On the other hand, if that is the sort of stuff that grinds your beans, then put on your tinfoil helmet, strap yourself in and enjoy the flight.

My thoughts and ideas however, will not go unopposed. I have been provided a worthy conservative adversary by the name of Edward Kelleher who’s blog can be found here. On any given day we may comment on the same topic in a sort of cross-fire format, or we may simply describe what is on our minds at the present moment. Additionally, although I cannot speak for Ed, I welcome any and all comments whether they be friendly or contrary. I only request that the language be kept somewhat within the bounds of decency. I have a firm belief in the adage that “reasonable people may differ” and that the give and take of differing opinions strengthens our society.

In an attempt to add some levity to my blog posts, I will try to write and post a song parody most every day. I will also post a link (audio or video) that will help readers to either reacquaint themselves or familiarize themselves with the actual tune of each song parody. I hope that these contributions will amuse you. Perhaps on occasion, one of these parodies will become that annoying tune that you cannot get out of your head for the rest of the day.

So what do you say? Let’s get started.

Last night I attended the Salem State University Speaker Series which featured Newt Gingrich. Despite the discomfort of listening to conservative policy justifications at these sort of events, I believe that it is important to listen to what the opposition is saying. It provides both a chuckle and an insight into the workings of the deviant mind. The surreal mood of last night’s event was heightened by the fact that I was accompanied by a Sarah Palin celebrity impersonator. She is the most spot-on celebrity look-alike that I have ever seen. She has mastered every nuance, gesture and even the speech pattern of Alaska’s Queen of Quit. We were seated in the 6th row of the center section of the much less than sold-out auditorium.(Best online Salem News comment: “P.S. If all of his former wives had been there it might have sold out!”) My partner’s presence caused quite a stir in the audience and I hope that it un-nerved Newt Gingrich just a bit. He does, as we all know, have a wandering eye when it comes to women.

Newt Gingrich of course, is the disgraced former Republican Speaker of the House that was forced out of leadership and his Congressional seat by his own party. They continued their affair during the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal, when Gingrich was a leader of the Republican investigation of President Clinton for perjury in connection with his alleged affairs with Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky. In 2000, Gingrich married Bisek shortly after his divorce from second wife Ginther. Word was, that at last night’s event he also had a case of wandering eyes and hands on more than one occasion.

Gingrich announced that he would speak about job creation and entitlement reform, but the first 10 to 15 minutes of his diatribe consisted only of talk about his unsuccessful search for some kind of beer and chocolate ice cream diet. Next, he told a lengthy story about how the fall of the Soviet Union came about not as the result of anything done by Ronald Reagan, but rather by the Pope visiting his homeland of Poland in 1979 which invigorated the Solidarity movement. He said he wanted to eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency and he also surprisingly claimed that most Americans blame the Gulf Oil spill not on BP, but on the Obama Administration. Who knew? His only mention of entitlement reform was when he said “…Giving people money for doing nothing is fundamentally dangerous, because it teaches them to do nothing.” He did not however, comment on the fact that there are few if any jobs for these people to find. Indeed, by the time he wrapped things up, he barely touched upon his stated topic of job creation. He provided no specific plan and only said, “We have a fairly long history of creating jobs. It’s a pretty simple principle: Reward job creation, make it expensive not to create jobs.” Very tasty words but no meat to bite into. He did not a utter one single word about his desire that the Bush era tax cuts for those earning over $ 250,000.00 be made permanent. Perhaps the reason is that the facts prove that those tax cuts do not lead to job creation.

When George W. Bush signed into law the temporary tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 our nation slipped into the slowest period of job growth by any president since World War II. During his tenure, job growth was less than one-tenth of one percent. In contrast, after having raised taxes on that segmment of society to 39% (from the existing 31%) the job creation rate under Bill Clinton surged to 4.46% for the duration of his two terms. The argument made by Gingrich and other conservatives late last year was that if the Bush tax cuts were allowed to expire on the wealthy, job creation would be stymied, but if they were extended, employers would begin to hire once again. The conservatives got their wish when the tax cuts for the wealthy were extended through 2013 but where is the promised job creation? During the last year corporations and CEO’s have reported some of the biggest profits and bonuses in history yet they still resist creating jobs in this country. It is an undeniable fact that American businesses have added many jobs since the tax cuts were extended. Problem is, those jobs have been given to people that live in other countries.

Newt Gingrich failed to address those inconvenient facts last night in the same way that he failed to address his ouster from Congress and his serial marital infidelity. He may not want to discuss those things presently, but should he decide to run for the presidency, he will be forced to address them in the primary debates. He is in for some serious John Edwards treatment should he decide to run for president. He deserves it too!

The Grinch That Stole Christmas song link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzXKWKaxt3c

YOU’RE A HAS-BEEN, NEWT GINGRICH

(sung to the Dr. Seuss song “The Grinch That Stole Christmas”)

You’re a has-been, Newt Gingrich
You’re lacking in appeal
Your were ousted as The Speaker
No one wants to hear you squeal
Newt Gingrich

You’re a unicycle
Without even one wheel

You’ve had three wives, Newt Gingrich
A mistress in the hole
Philandering’s your day job
You’re a slimy ugly troll
Newt Gingich

These woman that like you, must
Be on work-release or parole

You’re a vile one, Newt Gingrich
Your words reek with rancid bile
Your criticizing ol’ Bill Clinton
As you’re cheating all the while
Newt Gingrich

There couldn’t be a bigger hypocrite
Within a Midwest country mile

You’re a foul one, Newt Gingrich
Your first divorce smelled of skunk
Your wife, Jackie fighting cancer
You told her she was junk
Newt Gingrich

The nicest words to describe you,
Are, as follows, and I quote, Pink. Wank, Punk

You’re a coward, Newt Gingrich
Avoided your army spot
Deferment-seeking chicken-hawk
That likes to talk real tough
Newt Gingrich

Your soul is an appalling dump heap overflowing
With the most disgraceful assortment of Republican
Sound-bytes imaginable,
Mangled up in tangled up knots

You’re the racist, Newt Gingrich
It’s not Judge Sotomayor
You play the race card as a white guy
That’s so laughable I’m sure
Newt Gingrich

You’re a stinking pile of vomit
Sitting in the sun
With feces on top
