Ann “The Man” Coulter Flip-Flops On Mitt “Midas” Romney

How predictable radical reich-wing conservative pundits can be. They bash a Republican candidate and then they embrace the same candidate when he is the last one standing. Case in point: Ann Coulter.

Just one year ago the uber-conservative Coulter told the CPAC crowd, “If we don’t run Chris Christie, Romney will be the nominee and we will lose.”

Coulter has now (in some sort of weird Romney-like mimic) flip-flopped. He claims that Mitt Romney has the “Midas Touch”. Yesterday while appearing as a guest on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos”, Ann Coulter proclaimed, “Romney has had a Midas touch with everything he has done”, including his job as Governor of Massachusetts. “It is not just Bain,” he continued, “it is everything he touches.”

Watch it here: http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/201206100002

What a monumental flip-flop. Does this Coulter guy think that we do not have videotape of his CPAC proclamation? Of course, Coulter’s praise for Romney avoided any mention of the fact that while Governor, Massachusetts ranked 47th in the nation in job creation.  He also failed to mention that while Governor, Romney vastly increased taxes on Massachusetts’ working/middle class residents by raising nearly every fee paid by citizens for government services such as drivers licenses, auto registrations, recording of deeds and 83 others. In total, Romney’s fee increases and increased taxes exceeded $ 740 million per year.

But really, what else could we expect from a guy like Ann Coulter? Let’s watch some of the insanity this fella demonstrates (some of the language is not fit for children):

Strangers In The Night song link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlSbSKNk9f0&feature=related

STRANGE ONES ON THE RIGHT

(sung to the Frank Sinatra song “Strangers In The Night”)

Strange ones on the right,
Fox News romancers
Not so very bright,
With our finances
This Tea Party love
Should be viewed as taboo

Palin shouting lies
And fear inciting
Rand Paul is hostile
And so damn frightening
Boehner has no heart
McConnell has no clue

Strange ones on the right,
Abnormal people
They are strange ones on the right
Not one sane moment
They should be in a freak-show
Little do they know
It would just enhance our day
If like Bristol they’d dance away and –

And on Fox every night,
They’re all together
Lovers on the right
In love forever
It’s an ugly sight
Those strange ones on the right

(Tea-Bagging break)

Don’t look now just glance away
Here comes their jailbird Tom Delay

You can join their fight
And hang together
Only if you’re white
Birds of a feather
Taking their last flight
Those strange ones on the right

M’Ann Coulter Is An Anti-Semitic Gutless Supporter Of Frontrunners

The Man-Thing is back in the news. Ultra Reich-Wing pundit Ann Coulter appeared on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” and pulled a Mitt Romneyesque flip-flop regarding who he supports for the Republican nomination for President.

The anti-Semitic Coulter you might remember once said,  “We just want Jews to be perfected, as they say.” –arguing that it would be better if we were all Christian. He of course has said some other bombastic things such as “”If I’m going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.” He also said, “These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by griefparrazies. I have never seen people enjoying their husband’s deaths so much.” -on 9/11 widows who have been critical of the Bush administration. How about when he said, “My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building” ? How about this gem, “I think the government should be spying on all Arabs, engaging in torture as a televised spectator sport, dropping daisy cutters wantonly throughout the Middle East and sending liberals to Guantanamo.”? Anyway, you get the point. Ann Coulter is lower than a worm.

But we digress. Last night on CNN, Coulter praised Mitt Romney, the founder of the “personal mandate” to purchase health insurance which is the integral part of both RomneyCare in Massachusetts and our new national health care law. He told Morgan, the economy is such a disaster and Obama has such a glass jaw that we might even win with Romney. And Romney isn’t a disaster … I like him.”  This is a far cry from just last February when, while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Coulter said “If you don’t run Chris Christie, Romney will be the nominee and we’ll lose.”

Wow! Coulter now likes Romney. He is even beginning to act like Romney as evidenced by his sudden change of opinion regarding the former Massachusetts Governor. Like Romney, who has changed his position on such issues as a woman’s right to choose, firearm regulation and immigration reform multiple times, Coulter is also now a flip-flopper. What we really learned about Coulter however, is that he has no personal convictions. He will support whatever Republican candidate is leading the pack at any given time.

Case in point. In February of 2008 Coulter said this about Republican John McCain. “And what if the unthinkable happens, and President McCain is inaugurated? I’ve led an impeachment movement before, Coulter said, and “I can lead another one.” Later, after McCain won the Republican nomination, he sang a different tune. He began to publicly support McCain’s candidacy.

In short, like Mitt Romney, none of Ann Coulter’s words can be believed with the possible exception being when he said. “I’m more of a man than any liberal.” This guy is a true jack-hole.

As an aside, there have been rumors circulating on the internets tubes for some time now which advance the proposition that Ann Coulter is actually a male. Most of these articles focus on a few missing years during his adolescence when he presumably left the country to have a sex-change operation overseas. The articles also often draw attention to his pronounced Adam’s Apple and masculine looking hands. Additionally, it is frequently pointed out that he has never been married or had children.

Here at Blast-Off, we have no idea as to the credibility of the M’ann Coulter rumors. We do, however hope said rumors are true because of the wealth of satirical material which such a situation would spawn. As you can guess, we really do not like Ann Coulter or anything he has to say. So, without further adieu, let’s have a song…

Band On The Run song link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7D65IomNYY

M’ANN ON THE RUN

(sung to the Paul McCartney and Wings song “Band On The Run”)

Just a boy with no friends, thinking that he’s clever,
Never havin’ no fun nights again, quite true,
Coulter you, Coulter you.

(sex-change break)

Spreading his politics of fear,
Hating you if you’re Black or gay,
Not a hint of veracity,
Does not know any other way
A transsexual without peer.
A transsexual without peer.

Well the rain exploded with a mighty crash when the Coulters had a son,
And before you know it he was growing his hair but he put it in a bun
M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run
Coulter had a plan not to be a man. A sex change would be so fun

For the M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run,

Next he put mascara on his manly eyes, but he lacked a curvy bum
And as he was singing, he let down his hair. He was having so much fun
M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run
Coulter had a plan not to be a man. A sex change would be so fun

Yeah the M’Ann on the run, the M’Ann on the run,
Yeah the M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run

Well, Fox News was calling as the right-wing world produced another clown
And the sound he’s making, unbalanced not fair, rumbles through the underground
M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run

Always touting “Drudge” and loves to judge
Research reveals this bore

He’s a M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run, M’Ann on the run…

Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 81

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful day!

BREAKING NEWS:  The Republicans have been correct all along. There is voter fraud. Unfortunately for the GOP however, it is their side that appears to be committing it. Firedoglake.com reports that in Wisconsin three of the recall elections against Republican state senators have been certified. Additionally, there is a hearing scheduled this week to deal with challenges to the other six – three against Republicans, three against Democrats. But the Government Accountability Board has delayed the decision on the Democratic recalls, because of allegations of faulty signature-gathering.

THIS JUST IN:  Conservative commentator George F. Will appeared on ABC’s “This Week” and said this about the possibility of Sarah Palin being trusted with nuclear weapons,

“The threshold question, not usually asked, but it’s in everyone’s mind in a presidential election. ‘Should we give this person nuclear weapons?’ And the answer [in Palin’s case], answers itself.”

Ouch! That is going to leave a mark.

BREAKING NEWS:  Question of the week. How many more innocent people must be gunned down in Arizona before that renegade state gets serious about gun control?

THIS JUST IN:  A California Federal court judge has ruled that the civil lawsuit filed by a former ACORN employee against propaganda film-maker James O’Keefe III and an associate can move forward. O’Keefe is the person who posed as a pimp and secretly recorded a conversation with the ACORN employee before publishing an extensively edited version. The California Attorney General’s Office investigated Acorn in 2009, but ultimately found that the conversations, while “highly inappropriate,” were not in violation of state criminal laws. In the case at bar, U.S. Judge M. James Lorenz ruled that the First Amendment does not protect the alleged illegal conduct of the two conservative activists.

BREAKING NEWS:  It was nice to see Fox News take a beating this week. Newscorpse.com reports that “This was a really bad month for Fox News which lost viewers in the demo for every primetime show. Bill O’Reilly dropped 9%, Sean Hannity dropped 6%, and Greta Van Susteren dropped 12%. These declines occurred while almost every primetime program for both CNN and MSNBC gained by double digits. The only good news for Fox is that Glenn Beck, which sunk 17% in the demo, has already been canceled so he can’t do too much more harm. An interesting wrinkle in this book is that MSNBC was also the number one cable news network among 18-34 year-olds in primetime, with a 7% advantage over CNN and a 14% lead over Fox News.”

THIS JUST IN: Sarah Palin quote of the week. While participating in the Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally last week in Washington DC, the former ex-quitting half-term governor of Alaska said, “I love that smell of the emissions!” ‘Nuff said.

BREAKING NEWS:  This week’s episode of “Publicity Stunts That Keep Repeating Themselves” features Donald Trump. The bankrupt billionaire now says that he has not ruled out running for President in 2012. This time however, The Donald states that he may run as an Independent. Let’s hope that he does and thereby splits the Republican vote!

THIS JUST IN: Mark your calendars and begin planning the party. it has been announced that Glenn Beck‘s Fox News program will finally be cancelled on June 30th. Can I have an “Amen”?

BREAKING NEWS:  Fox News comment of the week. Headline: “Los Angeles Police Nab ‘Main Aggressor’ In Giants Fan Beating”. Comment: “a thousand Mexocans should die for what happened to Mr. Stow. why do we continue to put up with this race of brown vermin.. why???”

THIS JUST IN:  The newest Republican Presidential candidate has put himself at odds with his party and its base yet again. Mitt Romney yesterday reaffirmed his view that global warming is occurring and that humans are contributing to it. This may spell doom for his election chances as conservatives do not believe in science.

BREAKING NEWS: Just in case you somehow missed it, here is Sarah Palin‘s version of Paul Revere’s ride which she gave while in Boston this week:

He was warning the British? He was ringing bells? Wouldn’t ringing bells defeat the whole purpose of quietly lighting the lanterns so as not to alert the enemy? Palin really should have Netflix send over those school-House Rock dvd’s before she makes any more public statements.

THIS JUST IN:  Just wondering, but has anyone heard from Ann “The Man” Coulter or Michelle “Anchor Baby” Malkin lately? Where have these two big mouths slithered off to? Their 15 minutes must have expired.

RIGHT WING RADIO

(sung to the Everclear song “AM Radio”)

Portions of this lame programming are reproduced
By means of electronical transcriptions or tape recordings.

Radio
You can hear that bullshit on the right wing radio

There’s Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity
There’s lots of that Glenn Beck’s crap
Heavy on insanity

It’s simulcast along
The world wide webs

They’re pouring out pitchers full of Kool-Aid
Through the internets grid

Tea-Bagging clowns
On the air waves

Won’t talk to you if you’re black, young or gay

Limbaugh taught ‘em
The EIB chair
Is so toxic and vile
And it is unbalanced and unfair

Yo!
You must listen
To the poison on
That right wing radio (right wing radio, right wing radio)

Yeah… there’s no need for music
On right wing radio (right wing radio)

Savage is without a clue
Steers clear of every single neighborhood
In a state if that state is “Blue”

Malkin
Makes an ungodly sound
Crazy shit she’s into
Cruisin’ with that Glenn Beck clown

These nuts are broadcast across the nation
To the dumb and poor
Who mimic them like apes

They’re all right their at prime-time
Sean Hannity looks fried
Bill O’Reilly and that Sarah P. lie all goddamn night

Don’t lie in bed with the radio on
You will lose your sanity before long
When you hear Glenn Beck and his song

There’s lots of hate
And you can hear it
On that right wing radio (right wing radio, right wing radio)

Yeah… there’s no need for music
On right wing radio (right wing radio)

Listen to Limbaugh say
“Boy…Let’s bring Obama down!”

Oh no, “The Glenn Beck” show again.
I don’t wanna hear that show
Talk about “end times” and socialism, man, he such a fool
Turn it off
(Turn it off, turn it off, turn it off)

Sean Hannity is on at five
I feel like throwing up
When he spins
All that lame jive
Lives in a bubble where he is “the man”
Can’t be trusted
Cuz he lies
Like Glenn Beck and that’s a fact, man

Remember way back in two-thousand-seven
They said Romney and his cohorts
Would be leading us to heaven
If ol’ Rush Limbaugh
Could have had his way
“Operation Chaos”
Would have had Hilary Clinton
On election day
Hey!
Election day!
Hey!
No way!
Hey Rush, go away!

There must be a place we can tell them to go
A real hot place where they don’t have any snow
But they’re sure to have right wing radio

Huh-uh huh-uh huh-uh huh

Yeah, things get real stupid
On those stupid shows
The hosts are really daffy

There’s no need for music
On right wing radio (right wing radio)
There’s no need for music
On right wing radio (right wing radio)
There’s no need for music
On right wing radio (right wing radio, right wing radio)

Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 78

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful day!

BREAKING NEWS:  Former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell (a Bowdoin College alum I might add) is resigning as the Obama administration’s Mideast envoy. Mitchell played a key role in Clinton-era negotiations regarding the status of Northern Ireland that resulted in the Good Friday Peace Agreement. This is not good news.

THIS JUST IN:  In the latest AP poll, 60% of respondents said they approved of Barack Obama‘s job performance, compared to 39% who disapproved. That’s the best rating Obama has received since May 2009 when, riding high after his inauguration, 64% of Americans approved of his job performance. This is good news.

BREAKING NEWS:  In other polling news, Public Policy Polling, found Donald Trump garnering only 8 percent of potential Republican primary voters, down from 26 percent who said they would support him if he ran in PPP’s previous survey. That plunge in support was enough to drop him from a solid first place to a tie for fifth place. So much for The Donald and his birther obsession!

THIS JUST IN:  This week’s episode of “Fighting The Good Fight” features Bernie Sanders and Jim McDermott. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) announced this week that he introduced legislation to provide health care for every American through a Medicare-for-all type single-payer system. Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) filed a companion bill in the House to provide better care for more patients at less cost by eliminating the middle-man role played by private insurance companies that rake off billions of dollars in profits. The twin measures, both called the American Health Security Act of 2011, would provide federal guidelines and strong minimum standards for states to administer single-payer health care programs.

BREAKING NEWS: This week’s episode of “Really Distorted And Creepy Remakes Of School-House Rock” features failed 2008 GOP candidate for President, Mike Huckabee and his “Learn Our History” cartoon series. Have a look:

Sure makes you pine for “Conjunction Junction” doesn’t it?

THIS JUST IN: The Tea Party Patriots are advocating an initiative to pressure public schools into teaching the US Constitution based on the writings of W. Cleon Skousen who has suggested such outlandish things as slaves being a happy bunch of folks. MotherJones.com however, informs us that Doug Kendall, President of the Constitutional Accountability Center (a think tank and public interest law firm) is none to happy about this development. He says,

“I defy the Tea Party Patriots to find one credible historian willing to support their view of the Constitution’s history. Before the Tea Party gets to go into school and teach our children about the Constitution, they need to find a tenured professor on the history faculty on one of any of the 50 highest-rated universities in the United States who will vouch for the accuracy of their teachings. To qualify to teach America’s children about the Constitution you need to do more than dress up like James Madison.

The Tea Party Patriots are peddling constitutional gobbledygook masquerading as history. Yet whether it is Tea Party organizations misrepresenting American history, or Tea Party politicians like Rep. Michele Bachmann not knowing what state the battles of Lexington and Concord were fought in, the Tea Party has utterly disqualified itself from serious discussion of our Constitution’s text and history. America’s school boards must flatly reject the Tea Party Patriots’ attempts to muscle their bad history into our children’s classrooms.”

Bravo, Mr. Kendall!

BREAKING NEWS: This week’s episode of “Republicans Behaving Badly” features the recently resigned GOP Sen. John Ensign. NPR.org reports, “Former Sen. John Ensign of Nevada broke federal law, made false statements to the Federal Election Commission and obstructed a Senate Ethics Committee’s investigation into his conduct, the panel said Thursday in a scathing report that sent the matter to the Justice Department for possible prosecution.” Ouch, that is gonna leave a mark!

THIS JUST IN:  Former failed GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee(Hound) announced last night that he will not run again in 2012. He joins other Republican scaredy-cats Haley Barbour, Marco Rubio, Chris Christy, Jeb Bush, Jim Demint, Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin.

BREAKING NEWS:  This week’s episode of “I Double Dare You” features New jersey high school student Amy Myers who is is challenging Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) to a debate on civics and the U.S. Constitution. In an open letter to to Bachmann, Myers of Cherry Hill, N.J., said, “I have found quite a few of your statements regarding The Constitution of the United States, the quality of public school education and general U.S. civics matters to be factually incorrect, inaccurately applied or grossly distorted.” “I, Amy Myers, do hereby challenge Representative Michele Bachmann to a Public Forum Debate and/or Fact Test on The Constitution of the United States, United States History and United States Civics.” I’ll take Myers in this one!

THIS JUST IN:  After President Obama announced that he would not release photos of the slain Osama bin Laden because the terrorist “is not a trophy” and “we (i.e the US) do not need to spike the football” and because it would inflame the Muslim world and endanger our troops, conservative windbag Ann Coulter felt the need to speak up. While appearing on Sean Hannity’s Fox News (where else?) program, Coulter chastised the President and said, “We paid for it, we ought to be able to see it.” He then went on to insult the president by saying, “he seems to know less about Arabs than, you know, my dog. Certainly, this Irishman from Long Island knows more.” Who in the wide, wide world of Fox News is “the the Irishman from Long island”? He then wondered off into the ridiculous by saying, ” he’s spiking the football from now until Election Day on this. So, don’t talk down to us about your moral superiority, we don’t need a victory lap. That’s beyond us. And Americans can’t handle this? I think Americans just handled what you showed on your program. And if Americans can handle Hillary Clinton’s ankles, they can handle this photo.” Hilary Clinton’s ankles? Really, can this guy ever have a conversation without delving into the inane? Ann Coulter just might be the shallowest man in America.

M’Ann Coulter Says Sarah Palin Is More Powerful Than The Presidency

Two Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Whenever that guy Ann Coulter opens his mouth something stupid flies out. The absolutely irrelevant right-wing pundit appeared on MSNBC Thursday night and essentially said that Sarah Palin is too powerful to be the President of the United States. He said that he believes that the former ex-quitting half-term Governor of Alaska would win the Republican nomination but,

“I think it would be a step down for her to run for president. It’s like saying Rush Limbaugh should run for president. She’s huge. She has enormous power. She sends out a Twitter on death panels and everyone’s talking about it. I think it would be crazy for her to run for president.”

So let’s get this straight. The Coulter guy believes that there is more power in being a celebrity than being the leader of the free world. Does Coulter believe that Palin and Limbaugh can declare wars and propose national budgets and veto congressional bills also, too? Apparently so. If those are his standards, Coulter should inform the Tea-Baggers that Glenn Beck and Donald Trump should also stay away from the candidates’ podium.

Honestly, does anybody take the Coulter guy seriously anymore?

Ann Coulter Confirms He Is A Crazy-Man At CPAC

First off, Lynnrockets would like to wish a HAPPY VALENTINES DAY to all you Rocketeers. Now let’s get to the news…

Ann Coulter is one strange man. This guy has been hanging around the political world for far too long and at this point he should simply be ignored. He has lately been relegated to the back bench of conservative politics and for good reason. His columns have been dropped from many newspapers and the only place he can be found on television is the propaganda network known as Fox News. He is now pretty much irrelevant to any serious political discussion.. If it were not for CPAC, he would no longer have any audience at all.

No serious Republican or conservative cares the least what Coulter has to say any longer. He is merely a man of yesterday. He bullies his way with his big adams apple and big hands into conservative circles but even those neanderthals are too embarrassed to have him hang around for too long. Honestly, let’s look at his recent history. He is the guy that said that Jews need to be perfected. He also said that the Canadians fought along-side us in Viet Nam. Remember the time that he called John Edwards a faggot? Yikes, talk about the pot calling the kettle black! Ever watch him prance around on Fox News wearing his tight fitting dresses? This guy is so embarrassing that I am guessing that there is a couple somewhere in Connecticut that wishes that they exercised there freedom of choice and aborted this guy before he could incite all the hatred that he has brought on this country.

His CPAC appearance last weekend was just more of the same. It is all over-the-top rhetoric with no substantive basis. For instance he said, “Here’s a lesson of history: Do not allow Democrats anywhere near foreign policy. Not even to keep them away from domestic policy. It’s a mistake to ask those who don’t even like democracy to defend it.” On what basis can he support the ridiculous statement that Democrats do not like democracy? None. He then revised history by claiming, “Liberals could not have been less interested in democracy when we were taking out the guy who gassed his neighbors…when we went to take out Saddam Hussein.” Notice how he failed to mention that the Bush administration’s justification for invading Iraq was to find those non-existent weapons of mass destruction and not to nation build.

Then for some reason he started talking about gay conservatives. He said, “I would like gays to be part of conservatism just the way women are without there being a special designation for it, that’s what I’d prefer.” Then he said, “The left is trying to co-opt gays and I don’t think we should let them, they should be on our side.” He concluded by saying that he and gays have a lot “a lot in common”. He added, “We like the same music, we like the same cocktails, and we like a lot of the same men.” Maybe there is even another reason that he is not so comfortable talking about. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge!

COULTER

(sung to the Kinks song “Lola”)

I saw her once last week on the Fox network
Where the hosts are lame and the guests are worse like Ann Coulter
She is a revolter
A big Adam’s Apple and masculine hands
She has the curves of a flagpole and a set of big huge molars
M-o-l-a molars mo-mo-mo-mo molars

Well I’m not the world’s most perceptive bloke
But she is a lady that I wouldn’t dare poke
That Ann Coulter co-co-co-co Coulter
Well I’m not dumb but I can’t understand
Why she walks like a woman but looks like a man
That Ann Coulter co-co-co-co Coulter co-co-co-co Coulter

Well she sat right next to Hannity
And then was on Bill O’Reilly
They saw mascara on her eyes so blue
But I swear those guys didn’t have a damn clue
Well I don’t know if they are into men
But the next night on Fox she was on there again that Ann Coulter
Co-co-co-co Coulter co-co-co-co Coulter
Coulter co-co-co-co Coulter co-co-co-co Coulter

I changed the station
M-S-N-B-C
Re-luct-ant-ly
I then turned back to Fox
Then I was convinced she was a he

Well I don’t know what ol Rush Limbaugh thinks
But I like women when they don’t have dinks like Ann Coulter’s
Co-co-co-co Coulter’s
She says that her wisdom sells her books
It’s gotta be somethin’ cuz it ain’t her good looks that Ann Coulter
Co-co-co-co Coulter

I took a closer look at Hannity
Now I’m not really so sure that he’s not a she
But this might be the Republican way
A sex change is good cuz then you’re not gay

Well I’m not the world’s most masculine man
But I’m never gonna take it right up the can
From no Mann Coulter
Co-co-co-co Coulter co-co-co-co Coulter
Coulter co-co-co-co Coulter co-co-co-co Coulter

Ann Coulter is a disease that needs to be cured.

Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 66

First of all, GO PATRIOTS! De”feet” the JETS!

BREAKING NEWS: In case you have not noticed, President Barack Obama‘s approval rating has climbed steadily in recent weeks to its highest point in nearly a year. According to an Associated Press-GfK poll, 53 percent of Americans surveyed said that they approve of how Obama is doing his job. Obama’s approval was last at 53 percent in early March 2010, before his health care reform bill was passed in its final form. The poll was conducted between January 5th and 10th. No doubt the rating will rise even more after the president’s recent speech in Tucson, Arizona.

BREAKING NEWS: Remember not too long ago when rap singers were criticized by those on the right for their violent lyrics? Those lyrics, we were told, could inspire violence. Then why are those on the right not as equally aghast at the violent rhetoric and symbolism which is fostered by Sarah Palin (Don’t retreat – RELOAD”, Sharron Angle (2nd Amendment remedies), Glenn Beck (Kill Charlie Rangel with a shovel), Ann “The Man” Coulter (Timothy McVeigh should have bombed the New York Times building) and Mike Huckabee (That’s Obama diving to the floor to avoid gunshots)? Good question?

THIS JUST IN: This week’s episode of “I Don’t Know Much About History” features Glenn Beck. He criticized the House Republican leadership for its decision not to read the “three fifths of a person” language of the original Constitution which was subsequently replaced through amendment. Beck said,

“Three-fifths clause. African-Americans: three-fifths in the South, three-fifths of a human being. That’s an outrage, unless you know why they put that in there. They put that in there because if slaves in the South were counted as full human beings, they could never abolish slavery. They would never be able to do it. It was a time bomb. Progressives should love that. It was a way to take a step to abolish slavery.”

As is usually the case, Beck could not have been more wrong.University of Pennsylvania history professor Rick Beeman states,

“They put [the three-fifths clause] there because delegates from the Southern states would never have agreed to the Constitution unless some weight was given to their slave populations in the apportionment of representation. They wanted slaves counted 100%, but when they saw that they could not get that, they settled for 3/5. The practical effect of that, far from making easier to abolish slavery, made it more difficult. It gave added weight to southern political power in Congress, it inflated Southern power in the apportioning of electoral votes, which led to a succession of Southern presidents. Ironically, the best thing that could have been done with respect to making it easier to abolish slavery would have been to have given slaves NO weight in the apportioning of representation.”

Glenn Beck never lets the facts get in the way of a good lie.

BREAKING NEWS: This week’s episode of “Why Can’t I Get The Toothpaste Back In The Tube” features former Minnesota Governor Tim “Good &” Pawlenty. The likely Republican candidate for the 2012 presidency told anti-gay radio host Brian Fischer that he we would support reinstating the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” ban on gays in the military. This begs the question, just how could a reinstatement be accomplished? Would the gay soldiers that came out be forced to then go back into the closet? Additionally, would the military brass somehow magically be able to forget the identities of those soldiers that did come out? Please Tim, do tell.

THIS JUST IN: After having come under fire from all quarters this past week for fostering violent rhetoric, the right-wing talking heads can now turn their attention to one of their favorite whipping boards; the French. This week a brawling smoker turned his trans-Atlantic flight from France into something resembling a bar fight and is facing criminal charges. The man was illegally smoking in the rest room and when confronted, he started a fight. After finally being apprehended by federal air marshals the passenger continued to verbally abuse individuals around him, yelling in substance ‘I’m French, f*** you!'” This event will have Limbaugh, Beck and Hannity chirping for days.

BREAKING NEWS: On Friday afternoon Michael Steele stepped down from the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee. Really, was there ever any doubt about that happening? Now Steele will have all the time he needs to spend with lesbian bondage strippers.

THIS JUST IN: This week’s episode of “Tell Us Something That Wasn’t Obvious” features former President Ronald Reagan. His youngest son Ron Reagan, Jr. revealed in his new book that he believes his father showed signs of Alzheimer’s disease while he was in the White House. In the book titled “My Father at 100,” which is due out next week, Ron Reagan writes, “Three years into his first term as President … I was feeling the first shivers of concern that something beyond mellowing was affecting my father.” It is only a matter of time now before senior members of the G.O.P. and right-wing shock jocks begin undermining Reagan Jr. for having the audacity to speak truthfully about his own father.

BREAKING NEWS: Arizona state and federal law enforcement officials have conclusively proved that killer Jared Loughner is, in fact, a member of the Republican Party. A recently discovered roll of 35mm film contained a photograph of Loughner posing with a 9mm handgun while wearing a red G-string. This is incontrovertible proof that Loughner is a member of the G.O.P. because numerous members of that party have displayed an affinity for being photographed with either firearms or fetish wear. David “Diapers” Vitter and Rudolph “9/11” Giuliani were unavailable for comment.

Monday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 65

Just a few newsworthy events (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful and hopefully productive day!

BREAKING NEWS: It was announced on Tuesday that radio station WOR in New York has dropped Glenn Beck‘s radio show as the result of poor ratings. Is it really any surprise that those well educated, elitist New Yorkers would have no reason to listen to Beck’s daily dose of misinformation? Will Philadelphia and Boston be next?

THIS JUST IN: This week’s episode of “Man With A Mission” features New York’s Democratic Party Senator Chuck Schumer. He has called for all Republican members of Congress who opposed last year’s health care reform legislation to decline the government provided health coverage for themselves and their families. Of course only one of those hypocrites has elected to turn down the health coverage that they hoped to deny their constituents.

BREAKING NEWS: Anyone else curious as to what really caused thousands of birds to fall dead from the Arkansas sky? Just wondering.

THIS JUST IN: This week’s episode of “I’m Not As Misguided As This Guy” feature’s Tucker Carlson of Fox News. Those of you that read this blog regularly will recall that I had a lengthy back and forth with a reader in the comment section of my posting about the Green Bay Packers last Sunday night. The reader felt that I went too far when I referred to the Philadelphia Eagles’ Michael Vick as the team’s “convicted felon and dog killing quarterback”. I defended my position by pointing out that I only spoke the truth. Vick is in fact, a dog killing convicted felon. The reader felt that I should lighten up on Vick, and maybe I should. Nevertheless, I certainly never went over the top with my dislike of Vick as did Tucker Carlson while filling in for Sean Hannity last week. Carlson actually called for Michael Vick’s execution. He said, “I’m a Christian, I’ve made mistakes myself, I believe fervently in second chances. But Michael Vick killed dogs and he did in a heartless and cruel way. And I think personally, he should have been executed for that.” I may dislike the guy but I certainly would not call for his execution. The folks at Fox News however always take an argument to its absurd extreme.

BREAKING NEWS: This week’s “Fox News Comments.com” racist quote appears in response to the Fox News headline, “Should Congress Raise The Nation’s Debt Ceiling”. The comment: “Negro-nomics must end! Stop spending and start saving! The citizens best invest in ammo, lots of ammo!” OK then.

THIS JUST IN: Speaking of Fox News, those masters of misinformation are at it again. MediaMatters.com informs us that during the January 3 edition of Fox NewsFox & Friends, the co-hosts brought on Fox News contributor Dana Perino to discuss her comments on the Energy and Independence Security Act of 2007 in The Washington Post. During the segment, she claimed that the bill included a “ban on incandescent light bulbs.” Problem is, it does not. The Energy Independence and Security Act which was passed in 2007 by a Republican majority Congress and signed into law by George W. Bush, does not ban all incandescent bulbs, only inefficient ones. The Faux News slogan should be,  “Misinformation For The Mainstream Media”.

BREAKING NEWS: This week’s episode of “The Real Death Panels of Arizona” features Arizona’s Republican Governor Jan Brewer. Since Brewer signed an executive order which cuts Medicaid funding to her state’s poorest residents, at least two people have died as the result of having their organ transplant claims denied. How’s that for an example of a Republican government bureaucrat coming between a doctor and his/her patient?

THIS JUST IN: Minnesota’s moonbat-crazy Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann made the news twice this week. First it was revealed that she is considering a run for the presidency in 2012. Then, just a day later, she introduced a bill to repeal the financial regulatory law recently enacted by the Democrats. The law’s co-sponsor Barney Frank (D-MA) lambasted the repeal effort in true flamboyant fashion. He said, “They yearn to return to the thrilling days of yesteryear, so the loan arrangers can ride again – untrammeled by any rules restraining irresponsibility, excess, deception, and most of all, infinite leverage.” The man has away with words and makes a more than valid point.

BREAKING NEWS: This week’s episode of “The Misinformed” features the Fox News audience. A recent poll conducted by WorldPublicOpinion.org revealed that “Those who watched Fox News almost daily were significantly more likely than those who never watched it to believe that most economists estimate the stimulus caused job losses (12 points more likely), most economists have estimated the health care law will worsen the deficit (31 points), the economy is getting worse (26 points), most scientists do not agree that climate change is occurring (30 points), the stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts (14 points), their own income taxes have gone up (14 points), the auto bailout only occurred under Obama (13 points), when TARP came up for a vote most Republicans opposed it (12 points) and that it is not clear that Obama was born in the United States (31 points). The effect was also not simply a function of partisan bias, as people who voted Democratic and watched Fox News were also more likely to have such misinformation than those who did not watch it–though by a lesser margin than those who voted Republican.” Anyone surprised?

THIS JUST IN: It would not be a newsworthy week without some mention of Sarah Palin, now would it? It is especially rewarding when we can mention Palin and conservative Pundit Ann “The Man” Coulter in the same story. This week the Coulter guy tweeted, “Great video: head of GOProud interviewed by retarded person on MSNBC,” and provided a link to this interview, in which Barron of Republican gay rights group GOProud defends the group’s conservative credentials to Cenk Uygur, after invitees of the Conservative Political Action Conference boycotted an event over the inclusion of Barron’s organization. You might remember that last year Sarah Palin called for the firing of Rahm Emanuel for using the word “retard” but gave a pass to both Rush Limbaugh and shock-jock Ted Nugent for using the same word. Will Palin now call out Coulter or defend her use of the word as she did with the two right wingers? What is your guess? Oh and by the way, Ted Nugent is showing Palin no love. This week he told Anderson Cooper that he would not vote for Palin if she runs for president.

BREAKING NEWS: Speaking of Sarah Palin, Enteratinment Weekly (EW) reports that there will be no second season of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”. “EW did its due diligence and discovered there are no plans to send uber-producer Mark Burnett back to Wasilla with Palin, who’s lured an averaged 3.2 million viewers to TLC with her show. So this Sunday’s two-hour finale of Sarah Palin’s Alaska appears to be its last.” EW also states that “it makes sense why Palin wouldn’t want to commit to another season: If she and her family chose to shoot more episodes, it would surely be interpreted as a sign that she had no plans to run for office. By not doing a second round, Palin would spare TLC the trouble of having to provide her fellow candidates with equal-access time of their own in the event she did decide to run.” In Lynnrockets’ opinion, this is simply another charade by the Queen of Quit. If Palin agreed to film a 2nd season of her un-reality show this summer, it would reveal that she is not running for president. The only reason that Palin continues to draw the limelight and profit from it, is that she teases that she will run for office in 2012. As soon as it is certain that she will not run for the presidency, she is no longer newsworthy and her cash-cow will run dry. Consequently, Sarah Palin will do everything in her power to prolong the hype that she might run. As we all know however, in the end she is unelectable. Thank the Lord.

IMAGINE

(Sung to the John Lennon song “Imagine”)

Imagine there’s no Sarah
She’s in a doublewide
No more winks and blinks
No Bristol the child bride
Imagine all Alaskans
Living life in peace…

Imagine “thanks but no thanks”
Was never said at all
There was no “Joe the Plumber”
She stayed at City Hall
Imagine Americans
Spared from Sarah P….

You may say that we’re dreamers
But we’re having tons of fun
The First Dude claims she’s a screamer
And she’s certainly no nun

Imagine a “pig with lipstick”
I’m certain that you can
Remember Katie Couric
And Gibson, he’s “the Man”
Imagine all the people
Tina Fey also…

You may say that we’re dreamers
But we’re not the only ones

And he’s got Sarah’s grandson

Is Fox News And Tea Party Hatred to Blame For This Atrocity?

This is truly breaking (heart-breaking) news. CNN has just reported that at least 12 people were shot at a Tucson, Arizona grocery store on Saturday, and Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was among them. The network reports that, “Giffords, 40, was holding a constituent meeting at the grocery store when the shooting occurred, according to a schedule posted on her website.” The Tuscon Citizen newspaper reports that Giffords was shot in the head.

Giffords won her third term in a closely contested race against a Tea Party-sponsored candidate and was one of three Democratic legislators who reported vandalism at their offices following the March vote on health care reform.

It is obviously too early to place blame for this atrocity until we learn more about the assailant. Nevertheless, if it is determined that the shooter targeted the Democratic Representative for political reasons,  Fox News hosts such as Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck may be morally culpable for fostering an atmosphere encouraging revolution-like actions against the Democratic Party controlled government. Is it any wonder that at some point violence might be triggered by Palin’s inappropriate rhetoric such as “Don’t Retreat. Reload”, or her infamous website ad which targeted certain Democrats (including Giffords) for electoral defeat by means of placing gun-sight symbols over their judicial districts on a U.S. map? Has Glenn Beck’s near constant comparison of the Obama administration to communists, socialists or even Hitler fostered an atmosphere of sober and reasoned political discourse? Of course not. These far-right conservative radicals have stopped just short of actually calling for violence against government officials. On a daily basis they remind the easily influenced Tea Party members of the glory of our nation’s armed revolution. Indeed, during the most recent election cycle Tea Party candidate Sharron Angle went so far as to say that the public should bring down an out-of-control Congress with “Second Amendment remedies.”

The far-right media and politicians refused to castigate those people that attended Tea Party rallies armed with guns. They turned the truth upside down when they defended the Tea Partier that assaulted and stepped on the head of a defenseless woman at a Rand Paul event. Every time some far-right conservative takes their bait and like a hungry dog devouring raw meat, starts talking about “taking back the government” and stocking up on guns and ammunition, the likes of Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, Malkin, Coulter and Hannity defend these crackpots by claiming that they are simply expressing their frustration. Their thinly veiled encouragement of violence either threatened or actual is despicable.

I hope from the bottom of my heart that today’s shooting was the work of a person with a severe mental disability who picked a random target and not a person motivated by what seems to be an ever-increasing level of political hatred. The mentally disabled person works alone while the politically motivated person is likely only one of many that may resort to lethal violence. It is time for the hate-spreading far-right media and politicians to realize this and tone down their rhetoric and tacit encouragement of violence.

No song parody today. I see no humor in this tragic event. My prayers are with Ms. Giffords and the other innocent shooting victims.
