Fox News’ Sean Hannity Exposed As Liar By MSNBC’s Ed Schultz

Earlier this week, Fox News’ Republican Cheerleader-in-Chief, Sean Hannity stated on air, “I know the President will say ‘we got bin Laden” but putting that aside, it wouldn’t have happened if he (President Obama) had his way and I think that can be proven as well on tapes.”

Of course Hannity did not (and has not since) produced any tapes which corroborate his allegation that President Obama either did not desire to eliminate Osama bin Laden or took any action to discourage or prevent the elimination of the terrorist. You see, this is how Sean Hannity and most of his Fox News cronies operate. They make outrageous statements and seldom back any of them up with actual facts. Such is the case here.

Here are some tapes in fact which completely dispel Hannity’s spurious lie:

First we have a tape of Barack Obama on October 7, 2008 saying, “If we have Osama bin Laden in our sites and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take him out, then I think that we have to act and we will take them out. We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al -Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority.”

Of course, as we all know, President Obama successfully followed through on his promise to eliminate Osama bin Laden and in a televised interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes” shortly thereafter, Defense Secretary Robert Gates gave  much credit for the mission to the President. He said, “I believe, and I’ve worked for a lot of these guys (U.S. Presidents) and this is one of the most courageous calls, decisions that i think I’ve ever seen a President make…It was a very gutsy call…This is a man who is not afraid to make a tough decision and I have seen him make a number.”

If those tapes are not enough to contradict Sean Hannity and expose him as a liar, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz finished the job. Please click on the following link to view Schultz calling Hannity to task:

Hannity in the dark
You’d think that he would open his eyes
Hannity in the dark
It’s rhetoric that the reich wing buys
Keeps us barfing, keeps us laughing
The man is a lame-brain
G.O.P. talking points
Ixnay on the truthiness
Do you dig it? (no, we don’t)
And he’s been at it such a long time
Sean Hannity

Hannity in the dark
You’d think that he would open his eyes
Hannity in the dark
It’s rhetoric that the reich wing buys
His tough talking, while he’s smiling
Scared of waterboarding
Chicken-hawk with gall
Olbermann exposed the fool
Can you dig it? (yes, we can)
And Alan Colmes was such a nice guy

Slow thinking dropout without a college degree
A bought man just can shill for the G.O.P.
Fox News execs know they’re his boss
Know they’re his boss (oh, yeah, yeah)

In a daze, in the dark
Every day’s a day full of lies
In a haze, off the mark
He’s just like Limbaugh in disguise
Embellishing and misleading
An abomination
Like the Berlin Wall
An idiot, pitching a fit
Can you dig it? (no, we can’t)
And he’s been at it such a long time

  1. Isn’t this the same idiot who agreed to be water boarded yet still hasn’t been?

  2. Things are tough all over

Bin Laden is dead and the auto industry is alive and well. With Congressional approval at ten percent even Boehner was forced to acknowledge the improvement in the economy, insisting that things would have gone even better with his own jobs plan (banning contraceptives).

Wall Street Willard complained bitterly about our eventual departure from Afghanistan and nobody seemed to care (about him or about leaving). Poor babies!

  3. Scary thing is that there are actual live (but possibly brain dead) people who listen to and believe this $hit. I met one today in a Dr.’s office waiting room, a pleasant but misinformed 84 yr old woman with comments including “Obama wouldn’t even say where he was born!” and “Obama just wants us old people to go away” (aka death panels) and “what do you think about THAT Michelle?” (translation = uppity black woman). OMG!! Needless to say I did not keep my mouth shut at such idiocy. These people are REALLY out there, even in Massachusetts….frightening.

    • I’m with you, Pat. it is amazing that we come into contact with these folks even in bluer-than-blue Boston. Like you, I do not sit idly by when I hear someone parroting the misinformation which Fox News., Limbaugh etc. dish out on a daily basis. I calmly and politely state that I disagree and then try to use some actual facts to counter the nonsense. This may not have the effect of changing the person’s mind, but it may cause an eavesdropping bystander or two to consider what is being said and who is correct.

      • Yes, facts had an interesting deer in the headlights effect on this woman. I doubt I changed her mind, she thought it was very ‘nice’ that I stuck up for the president (all that was missing was a pat on my head), but you’re right – there were a couple of other people within earshot, so maybe I was able to get out some “FACTS” news. Even if they disagree with the administration’s policies, how in God’s name do they consider anyone in the current GOP clown car a viable option?

  4. Too bad Ed Schults tried to deceive his very small audience.

I heard the ENTIRE piece. Schultz chose to use only a small piece of it to spread a LIE.

Hannity went on to explain how Obama wanted to close Guantanimo and would not use “Enhanced Interrigation Techniques”.

Hannity then played tapes of Secretary of Defence Leon Panetta made just after Bin Laden was killed. Panetta explained that information was gained as a direct result from water boarding in Guantanimo.

So, yes if Obama had his way, Guantanimo would have closed long before this information was available and many things would have been different.

But, the piece by Ed Schultz is even far WORSE. You see, Schults left out the part where Hannity said, I applauded the decisian Obama made at the time to make the assult to get Bin Laden. I made that statement the day after it happened. And you, rather than actually listening to Fox News or radio to see what they REALLY say, just listen to and believe the LIES and DISTORTIONS MSNBC and others say.

    • The fact remains that Hannity said Osama bin Laden would not have been killed if “Obama had had his way.” That is incorrect. If any information was obtained from prisoners in Gitmo, it was obtained prior to Obama taking office and prior to Obama’s ban on waterboarding and consequently Obama could not have affected that. It must be noted however, that National Security Adviser John Brennan stated that to his knowledge, no information was obtained via waterboarding.

Leon Panetta actually said, “We had a multiple source– a multiple series of– sources that provided information with regards to the situation. Clearly some of it came from detainees and the interrogation of detainees but we also had information from other sources as well. From Sigent intelligence, from imagery, from other sources that we had– assets on the ground. And it was a combination of all of that that ultimately we were able to put together that led us to that compound. So– it’s– it’s a little difficult to say it was due just to one source of information that we got. I think some of the detainees clearly were, you know, they used these enhanced interrogation techniques against some of these detainees. But I’m also saying that, you know, the debate about whether– whether we would have gotten the same information through other approaches I think is always gonna be an open question.” Hence, even Panetta says that info may just as likely have been obtained by methods other than “illegal” waterboarding.

Finally, the fact remains that as early as 2008 Obama made it a priority to capture or kill bin Laden (as evidenced by his words in the video above) as opposed to George Bush who essentially lost interest in bin Laden as early as 2005.

So, Obama had his way and he followed through on killing bin Laden in exactly the fashion he predicted during his 2008 debate (video above). Hannity was wrong therefore in saying Osama bin Laden would not have been killed if “Obama had had his way.”
