Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 14
BREAKING NEWS: Congratulations to President Barack Obama for his honor of being chosen as the 2009 winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Obama joins Theodore Roosevelt (1906) and Woodrow Wilson (1919) as only the third sitting U.S. President to win the award. Of course, Republicans and conservatives are outraged at the selection, but perhaps State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley summed up the situation best when he said Friday, “Certainly from our standpoint, this gives us a sense of momentum — when the United States has accolades tossed its way, rather than shoes.”
THIS JUST IN: 2008 losing Republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has chimed in on President Obama’s Nobel Prize by way of providing a sort of warning to fellow Republicans. He said, “There will be an outcry from those on the right who will say that Obama’s nomination, made two weeks into his presidency, is impossible to justify, but I think such an outcry will sound like right-wing whining.” Really Mike, aren’t all of the right’s recent outcries simply, “right-wing whining”? Why do you think we already have that term for it?
The survey found 64 percent of voters disapproving of the way Republicans in Congress are doing their jobs, with 25 percent approving. Also, 53 percent had an unfavorable opinion of the party in general, while 25 percent rated it favorably.
The performance of Democratic lawmakers was disapproved of by 56 percent, with 33 expressing approval. For the party in general, 46 percent expressed disapproval, 38 percent approval.
Asked who they trusted to do a better job on the health- care issue, 47 percent said Obama, 31 percent said the Republicans. The president’s overall approval rating was 50 percent, unchanged from a similar survey in late July and early August.
“President Barack Obama’s approval rating has held at 50 percent over the past two months of high-intensity debate on health care and other issues,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Hamden, Connecticut-based university’s polling institute. “And while the spotlight is on the president, Republicans are taking a public-opinion pounding.”
THIS JUST IN: Batwing-crazy Michelle Bachmann (R) Minnesota says that MSNBC hosts are “stalkers” because of their reporting on her idiotic public statements. Bachmann should be so lucky as to attract any kind of stalker inasmuch as she is repellent to most everyone.
BREAKING NEWS: Comedian Rush Limbaugh has submitted a proposal to purchase the N.F.L.’s St. Louis Rams. Some of you might remember Limbaugh’s short lived tenure as a television host on ESPN back in 2003 when he was fired after commenting that Pro-Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated and playing in the league only because “the media” wanted to see a black quarterback succeed. Should Limbaugh succeed in purchasing the team, how many black draftees will have any interest in playing for the Rams? Good luck, Rush.
THIS JUST IN: Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report commented this week on what it must feel like to Fox News host Glenn Beck when the media doubts his sincerity.
Colbert: It’s like looking into a mirror– after you’ve done a ton of coke off of it. Clearly… clearly Glenn Beck… clearly Glenn Beck is as sincere in what he says and does as I am in believing that baby carrots are trying to turn me gay. And folks that is great news. Because if he and I don’t believe what we say… and don’t mean what we feel, then you our viewers aren’t just being intellectually impoverished. You’re being emotionally defrauded. And that would be a cynical manipulation of Americans’ legitimate fears.
In which case, we shouldn’t be on T.V. at all. (Starts sobbing.) And I don’t know about Glenn Beck… but that idea makes me very sad. I’m sorry… I just love my paycheck so much.
BREAKING NEWS: This week on Episode 29 of Republicans Eating Their Young we have Rush Limbaugh and Joe Scarborough. Limbaugh called Scarborough, “a neutered chickified moderate”. Scarborough responded to wit,
Scarborough: I would be careful. If I had put my testicles in a blind trust for George W. Bush for eight years I’d be careful ..
Brzezinski: Can you say “testicles” on Morning Joe?
Scarborough: But there are a lot of people on the right that did in fact put their testicles in a blind trust for the past eight years, and stopped being conservative and started being apologists. And, um, that’s about all I’ll say.
Other than, other than — you remember that, that scene with George W. Bush carrying Rush Limbaugh’s suitcase into the White House? Now we know what was inside the suitcase.

IT’S STILL LOCK AND LOAD FOR SHE
(sung to the Billy Joel song “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me ”)
What’s the matter with the clothes she’s wearing?
I believe they’re made from wolf hide
Maybe she should buy a new pair of glasses
She’s lookin’ just a bit pie-eyed
Just when you think Sarah’s sounding kinda murky,
She gives an interview while someone kills a turkey
Everybody’s talkin’ ‘bout polar bears
Funny, but it’s still lock and load for she
What’s the matter with the plane that she’s flying?
It’s not the one she sold on Ebay
She likes to leave the State of Alaska
With her family every single day
First she gave a speech in Minneapolis
Next she was headed right out to Indianapolis
Next day, Green Bay, then it’s off to LA
It’s still lock and load for she
Oh, it doesn’t matter what they say in the papers
‘Cause it’s always been the same damn scene.
She has to leave the state,
‘Cause the politics of hate dictate a nasty travel routine…
Spending the taxpayers’ green.
How about those ethics violations?
And Sarah Baby’s song and dance
She would really love to jail the complainants
If she only had half a chance.
And then there’s Levi and his TV interviews,
If he isn’t careful, he’ll be sporting cement shoes
Defense funds, end runs, new guns for everyone
It’s still lock and load for she
What’s the matter with the company she’s keepin’?
Don’t she know that they’re out of touch?
Like Sarah, they lack a strong education
Can’t accuse them of knowin’ much
That seems to be OK with the G.O.P.
Who needs college when you have a G.E.D.
It’s the new cool, no school, milky eyes and mouth drool
And Sarah is the big Queen bee
Everybody’s talkin’ bout the new party
Funny, but it’s still the same G.O.P.
