Tea Party Is Being Discarded In The Waste Heap of History

As time marches on, the Tea Party becomes more and more unpopular. No longer does a Tea Party rally garner large crowds. Both of the movement’s national conventions have been cancelled this year as the result of a lack of advance ticket sales. Furthermore, with every newly released poll, we learn that Americans have an increasingly negative view of the faux grass-roots movement. In short, the Tea Party is being pushed away by independent voters.

The most recent AP/GfK Poll released August 23rd reveals a sharp increase in the Tea Party’s “unfavorable” rating. Forty-six percent (46%) said they have a negative view of the movement while only 28% say they view it “favorably”. By the way, the increase by 10 points in the “unfavorable” category is all in the “very unfavorable” sub-category. The successive polls indicate the “unfavorable” views have been increasing since Tea Party-endorsed Republicans were elected to Congress in November 2010. Indeed, the sharpest declines have come since the Tea Baggers clamored for the United States to default on its obligations during the debt ceiling debate. In contrast, prior to the Tea Baggers actually having been elected to Congress back in June 2010, the movement’s “favorable” rating was 33% with its “unfavorable” rating being only 30%.

Mainstream Americans have caught on to the fact that Tea Partiers are the most confused and misinformed group of people since the “birthers”. Oh wait a second, they were the “birthers”. In any event, let’s just take a look at their positions on some of the issues of the day. All through 2010 and prior to the passage of the new health care law, they ran around shouting and carrying misspelled signs with the message “Leave My Medicare Alone” and “Keep Govt. Out Of My Medicare”. Nevermind the fact that the health care law had nothing to do with Medicare or that the program is 100% government run. They then proceeded to support a number of Tea Party candidates in the mid-term elections who, once elected, immediately began trying to pass laws which would eliminate the Medicare program.

The Tea Partiers are also known for protesting higher taxes. The problem is, taxes are at their lowest level in over 60 years. Furthermore, President Obama has not not increased one single tax since being elected. Instead, he has actually cut taxes for 95% of working/ middle class Americans by means of his 2010 payroll tax decrease. They should be on their knees thanking President Obama and opposing the elected Tea Party members who are presently refusing to extend those tax cuts.

Is it any wonder that the average American has little use for the Tea Party and its colonial-costumed members? Ah, Tea Party we hardly knew ye!

TEA BAG PARTY

(sung to the Ricky Nelson song “Garden Party”)

I went to a Tea Bag party hoping to make some brand new friends
But they became my enemies, those right wing racist men
When I got to the Tea Bag party, they all looked the same
That really surprised me, and no one had a brain

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

Crazies there from miles around, mostly with white hair
Locals brought their shotguns, there was hatred in the air
‘n’ over in the corner, not to my surprise
Sarah Palin sportin’ thigh-high boots while she winked her eyes.

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so they can go to hell

Lot-in-dah-dah-dah, lot-in-dah-dah-dah

Told them they were so wrong, Glenn Beck is insane
Drill Baby, Drill’s stupid,  and Palin is to blame
I said Rand Paul is crazy too, best not drink his tea
Then I told them things about Michele Bachmann they would not believe

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so they can go to hell

Lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah)
Lot-in-dah-dah-dah

Someone opened up a closet door and donned a white pointy hood
Punching his railroad ticket to Hell and just the way he should
If you’re goin’ to a Tea Bag party, I wish you a lotta luck
Bring a misspelled sign, use racist slang and drive a pick-up truck

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

Lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah)
Lot-in-dah-dah-dah

But its all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 85

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful day!

BREAKING NEWS:  Has anybody noticed that Fox News has reported on the Rupert Murdoch scandal far less than any other cable television station? Could that be because Murdoch owns Fox News?

THIS JUST IN:  The next time some right wing conservative tells you that Medicare must be abolished because it is unsustainable, please remind them that “over the program’s 75-year planning horizon is less than 0.4 percent of GDP. This is less than one quarter of the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

BREAKING NEWS:  CNN reported that Democrats and Republicans squared off in the 50th annual Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park in Washington Thursday night. The Republicans never led in this one, falling to the Democrats 8-2 in front of more than 7,000 fans. How appropriate.

THIS JUST IN:  Moonbat-crazy Teapublican Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann announced on Friday that she has quit her church. Bachmann, a Minnesota congresswoman, and her husband, Marcus, withdrew their membership from Salem Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minnesota, last month, according to church officials. When asked about the Bachmanns leaving the church, Pastor Marcus Birkholz said, “I’ve been asked to make no comments regarding them and their family.” Have “the chickens come home to roost”?

BREAKING NEWS:  Business Insider reports that One of the most-respected and economically intelligent publications in the world, The Economist, has turned against the Republican party for its disgraceful behavior with respect to the US debt-ceiling negotiations. The Republicans, the Economist points out, would rather disrupt the US economy and put the country into default than compromise on a long-term deficit and debt reduction plan. This behavior is an abdication of the Republicans’ responsibilities as elected officials.  It puts the Republicans’ self-interest ahead of the country’s. The Republicans’ stance on the debt-ceiling has now gone so far, in fact, that the Republicans appear to be trying to disrupt the economy in order to improve their chances in the next elections, rather than address an economic crisis that threatens to affect millions of Americans. This is not practical or responsible. It’s also not patriotic. It’s traitorous. Jeesh The Economist, don’t sugar-coat it. Tell us how you really feel.

THIS JUST IN:  It was nice to learn that Democrat Janice Hahn easily won a congressional seat (recently vacated by Democrat Jane Harman) in California’s 36th District, fending off a special election challenge from Republican Craig Huey. So much for GOP momentum.

BREAKING NEWS:  Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich‘s campaign is over $1 million in debt. And this is the guy that was going to lead our nation out of its financial difficulties?

THIS JUST IN:  Here is moonbat-crazy Teapublican Michele Bachmann‘s gaffe of the week:

BREAKING NEWS:  Bristol Palin expects “more obnoxious lies” from Levi Johnston in his new book. Wow, if that isn’t the pot calling the kettle black. Remember, Bristol Palin said her “virginity was stolen”.

PAPERBACK WRITER (BRISTOL VERSION)

(sung to the Beatles song “Paperback Writer”)

Paperback writer (paperback writer)

Dear Todd and Sarah, will you read my tome?
It took a year to write while raising Tripp alone
It’s based on my life as a teen-aged quack
And a bunch of folks that I wanna attack as a paperback writer,
Paperback writer

A book of topics that I want a say on,
Which I wrote with finger-paints and a crayon.
Do not expect too much from this school drop-out,
I can’t read too well but I want to be a paperback writer
Paperback writer

Paperback writer (paperback writer)

It’s got twenty pages give or take a few,
And it has some pictures that Piper drew.
I threw in an old joke that my mom once told
It’s a real page-turner and I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer

I tell a tall tale about camping one night
I drank wine coolers and got high as a kite.
Lost my virginity, yes let’s make that clear,
That sure gave me a boost and now I can be a paperback writer.

Sunday Morning Coffee (or Tea) – 84

Just a few newsworthy items (and comments thereon) that have been making their way through the political universe this past week but may have escaped your attention. Please ponder and maybe chuckle a bit before enjoying a wonderful Independence Day weekend!

BREAKING NEWS:  The next time some unregulated free-market endorsing conservative tells you that the mortgage crisis was caused by unqualified (i.e. poor) homeowners, ask them why Bank of America (and its predecessor in interest, Countrywide Home loans) agreed this week to pay a whopping $8.5 billion to settle the mortgage fraud charges leveled against it.

THIS JUST IN:  It is reported by www.otherwords.org that every person in a county in Montana has a single-payer health plan in the form of Medicare for all. After the residents of Libby were victimized by a health disaster caused by a mining company which killed hundreds and sickened thousands, a special provision was written into the new health care law to ease the pain. “Residents of Libby don’t have to be 65 years old or more. They don’t have to wait until 2014 for the state exchanges. There’s no 10-year roll out for them — it’s immediate. They don’t have to purchase a plan — this isn’t a buy-in to Medicare. It’s free. They don’t have to be disabled for two years before they apply. They don’t have to go without care for three years until Medicaid expands. They don’t have to meet income tests. They don’t have to apply for a subsidy or pay a fine for failure to buy insurance. They don’t have to hope that the market will make a plan affordable or hide their pre-existing conditions. They don’t have to find a job that provides coverage. Now, if only the rest of the nation realizes how beneficial such a plan is, maybe that is the next step in health care reform.

BREAKING NEWS:  This week’s episode of “Do As I Say, Not As I Do” features moonbat-crazy GOP Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann. While the wacky Teapublican has forcefully denounced the Medicaid program for swelling the “welfare rolls,” the mental health clinic run by her husband has been collecting annual Medicaid payments totaling over $137,000 for the treatment of patients since 2005, according to new figures obtained by NBC News. How is that for Tea Party hypocrisy?

THIS JUST IN:  Maria Shriver cited “irreconcilable differences” in a petition filed Friday to dissolve her 25-year marriage to former philandering Republican California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. She won’t be back!

BREAKING NEWS:  The Washington Post reports that employees of presidential candidate Newt Gingrich grew increasingly concerned in recent years about their boss’s purchases from luxury jeweler Tiffany & Co., worrying that if he followed through on plans to run for president, it could become a political liability. Gingrich’s Tiffany spending has also been questioned by his Republican opponents. He has offered few details about his relationship with the jeweler or the purchases made. He is now known as Newt Blingrich!

THIS JUST IN:  Just wondering, but whatever happened to Joe the Plumber?

BREAKING NEWS:  This was an interesting report from NewsHounds: “Sean Hannity’s Great American Panel unanimously and emphatically broke ranks with Hannity last night (6/29/11) as each panelist agreed that Donald Trump’s birtherism was offensive and racist. Predictably, white-rights enthusiast Hannity argued otherwise. But as the panel continued to denounce birtherism, he said, “It never was my issue.” Hannity didn’t care to enlighten us as to the definition of “his issue,” but if repeatedly giving airtime and legitimacy to suggestions that there was something fishy about President Obama’s birth certificate – even after he had produced it – counts, then it certainly was Hannity’s issue. Of course, it’s also quite possible Hannity knew all along it was a bogus controversy but he was willing to cast aside truth, accuracy and evidence in order to hit at Obama. The fact that there was a racial angle to the whole thing probably made it all the more tantalizing.

THIS JUST IN: Fox News comment of the week. Headline: “Guard chief: Iran Can Build Longer-Rangemissiles.” Fox News comment: “An intelligent President would have already blew Iran off the map and not wait until they can pose more of a threat to other people. Nuke them.” “Nuff said.

BREAKING NEWS:  Lynnrockets’ idea of the week. Kill two birds with one stone and give Glenn Beck‘s former time-slot to Joe the Plumber.

THIS JUST IN:  What is the real story behind Sarah Palin and her alleged jury duty?

In honor of the troops, please remember to click on the song link below to familiarize yourselves with the tune and to have more fun singing along with today’s pseudo-rap inspired song parody.

Loser song link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut5A_r5iiOg

SHE”S A PINHEAD, BABY

(sung to the Beck song “Loser”)

From the town of Wasilla, she’s like Godzilla
She’s lame in the brain and she endorsed Joseph Miller
With her winking eyeballs, Sarah loves those catcalls
Barbie doll shouts out to those G.I. Joes
On the far right they think she’s beautiful
Sarah Palin is a loser with no self-control
Sarah’s the Queen-O of the Tea Party
Just a bunch of dumb slouches marching to her beat
Pundits keep sayin’ she’s insane with no brain
Her daughter’s shotgun wedding was blasted into dirt
She writes crib-notes just below her sleeve
She was a Governor for awhile but she said she had to leave
She shoves her face in each race with her bark
Hates people with food stamps that live in those big trailer parks

Yo, cut it

Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(Double-barrel buckshot)
Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly

Palin is evil, thank John for this nightmare
Blasts country music in her book-signing chamber
Just a scheming weasel and she comes wrapped in a flag
Hails from the North Pole, this oil-pimping Tea-Hag
Loves her “Sixpack Joes” cuz First Dude has no job
Nothing more than Sarah’s house-husband slob
Sarah-baby pulls all of the strings
Snapped a turkey’s neck while she’s talking on that TV thing
She can’t write and she can’t debate
Stealing cash like a thief from her fans that think she’s great
Never bothers with any facts, … she’s wrong more than she’s right
While preachin’ to her minions

Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(She’s in the stardumb bizznizz)
Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(“Thanks but no thanks”)

Yo, bring her down

Soooooooooooo…
(She’s a liar, she’s a sinner, brings no hope or change, can’t you feel it?)

Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(She says, “also too”)
Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(Is that her baby?)
Oh, gosh darn it don’t you know
She’s a pinhead baby, the pride of Wasilly
(Know what I’m sayin’?)

Newt Blingrich Gets The Boot (Again) !!!

Newt Gingrich’s days as a viable Republican Presidential candidate would appear to be finally over.

Gingrich of course, stumbled almost immediately out of the gate, after declaring in a May appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the House Republican budget plan to destroy Medicare was too “radical” and represented “right-wing social engineering.” He caught so much flak from Republicans across the board that he felt compelled to apologize to the plan’s author, Rep. Paul Ryan (Not seen as a very “Presidential” move). Indeed, Gingrich went so far as to seemingly flip-flop (ala Mitt(wit) Romney) and endorse the plan. He then made a fool of himself by issuing threats to any Democrats that might be so bold to use Gingrich’s “actual words” against him in campaign ads. Gingrich looked more like a lost child than a serious candidate.

“Radical Right-Wing Social Engineering-Gate” was quickly followed by “Tiffany-Gate”. It was revealed that Gingrich had purchased up to half a million dollars worth of jewelry at Tiffany & Company. To make matters worse, Tiffany had lobbied the agency which employed his third wife. Such lavish expenditures on luxury bling did not jibe well with Gingrich’s self-promoted title as a common-sense fiscal conservative. The ostentatious purchases also did not sit well with those hard-working blue-collar conservative members of the middle-class with whom Gingrich claimed an alliance. The financially struggling conservative masses could no longer be counted upon to vote for this Donald Trump wannabe.

Next, Gingrich was hit with “Abandon Ship-Gate” as virtually his entire campaign staff abruptly quit. Like so many rats fleeing a sinking ship, his press secretary Rick Tyler, campaign manager Rob Johnson, senior strategists Sam Dawson and Dave Carney as well as 12 other high-ranking staffers announced that they had had enough with their recalcitrant boss. Gingrich was left with the bare bones of a staff but he vowed to re-invigorate his campaign and carry on.

Problem was, Newt Gingrich did not expect to suddenly become embroiled in “Hands In The Cookie Jar-Gate”. Last week it was revealed by ABC News that “a non-profit charity founded by Newt Gingrich to promote freedom, faith and free enterprise also served as another avenue to promote Gingrich’s political views, and came dangerously close, some experts say, to crossing a bright line that is supposed to separate tax-exempt charitable work from both the political process and such profit-making enterprises as books and DVDs. The charity, Renewing American Leadership, not only featured Gingrich on its website and in fundraising letters, it also paid $220,000 over two years to one of Gingrich’s for-profit companies, Gingrich Communications. It purchased cases of Gingrich’s books and bought up copies of DVDs produced by another of the former House speaker’s entities, Gingrich Productions. “

When questioned about the apparent conflict of interest, Gingrich told an ABC reporter, “I’m not concerned about that. The American people aren’t concerned about that. Try covering the speech.” Unfortunately for Newt however, the American people were concerned about “that”. You see, his political action committee was only able to raise a miniscule $ 53,000.00 in 3 months. The few donors remaining allegedly consisted of energy companies that are some of the nation’s worst polluters and a Dallas strip club owner who Gingrich once promoted as the “entrepreneur of the year”.

So, when fundraising gets tough, what happens? “Abandon Ship-Gate II” of course. CNN reported yesterday that Gingrich’s top 2 fundraisers suddenly quit. Fundraising director Jody Thomas and fundraising consultant Mary Heitman have now joined the aforementioned 16 other staffers to abandon the S.S. Gingrich. The big question is now, “Who (if anyone) is left on board?”

But wait! There’s more! It was also revealed yesterday that we now have “Tiffany-Gate II”. CNN reports that Gingrich had an even larger second line of credit at the high-end Tiffany & Co. jewelry store. Gingrich’s personal financial disclosure campaign filing will show he had a line of credit of up to $1 million with the store, in addition to a revolving charge account revealed last month. How is that for a double-dose of Gingrich fiscal conservatism?

It took only one so-called “Gate” to bring down GOP President Richard “Tricky Dick” Nixon. Can Gingrich survive 6 and counting? Don’t bet on it. Remember, Newt Gingrich also has an ugly political and personal history. He is the disgraced former Republican Speaker of the House who was forced out of leadership and his Congressional seat by his own party. He is also a serial philanderer. He has been married three times so far. In 1962, he married Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher. In the spring of 1980, Gingrich left Battley after having an affair with Marianne Ginther. According to Battley, Gingrich visited her while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery to discuss divorce. Six months after the divorce was final, Gingrich wed Marianne Ginther in 1981. In the mid-1990s, Gingrich began an affair with House of Representatives staffer Callista Bisek, who is 23 years his junior. They continued their affair during the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal, when Gingrich as a leader of the Republican investigation of President Clinton for perjury in connection with his alleged affairs with Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky, hypocritically called for the president’s impeachment. In 2000, Gingrich married Bisek shortly after his divorce from second wife Ginther. Gingrich converted to Catholicism in 2009 but many divorced Catholics are also upset with him as the result of his breaking of church doctrine by marrying after a divorce.

In light of all of the above, you can take this to the bank: Newt Gingrich’s days as a presidential candidate are numbered and that number is very small.

I Am Woman song link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGMESM8JKOg

I AM GINGRICH

(sung to the Helen Reddy song “I Am Woman”)

I am Gingrich, hear me snore
The G.O.P. showed me the door
In ’98, I was thrown out on my rear end
‘cause I called for a class war
When Clinton dallied with that whore
So what if I also had a lady friend

Oh yes I’m despised
And I caused a lot of pain
I’ve been married thrice
And I will wed again
Remember, “Contract With America”
I was wrong (wrong)
Now I’m invisible (invisible)
I am Gingrich

Now I’ve shown you that I’m tasteless
By calling Sonia a racist
When I’m the guy that bloviates on ghettos
My lies will grow much stronger
And my nose will grow much longer
When I start to call Sotomayor a “Hoe”

Oh yes I’m despised
And I caused a lot of pain
I’ve been married thrice
And I will wed again
Remember, “Contract With America”
I was wrong (wrong)
Now I’m invisible (invisible)
I am Gingrich

I am Gingrich don’t you know
Democrats know that I blow
Fox News spreads my fat visage across the land
And I’ll use those embryos
And those nameless “baby does”
If it helps me to advance my final stand

Oh yes I’m despised
And I caused a lot of pain
I’ve been married thrice
And I will wed again
Remember, “Contract With America”
I am wrong (wrong)
And I’m invisible (invisible)
I am Gingrich
Oh, I am Gingrich
I am invisible
I am wrong

(Fading)
I am Gingrich
I am invisible
I am wrong
I am Gingrich

GOP Is So Unpopular That Even Tea-Baggers Are Now Dunking Them

TPM DC reports that South Florida Tea Party Chairman Everett Wilkinson thinks the GOP budget — and in particular its call to phase out Medicare and replace it with a marketplace for private insurance — is a total disaster. He’s saying that Republicans, including members in his sphere of influence like Rep. Allen West (R-FL), should back away from it.

In an email to fellow Tea Partiers last week, obtained by The Palm Beach Post, Wilkinson called the GOP plan a “public policy nightmare” that could trigger “huge Democratic wins in 2012,” and prompt Republicans to blame the Tea Party for their losses.

“Republicans will lose if they support the Ryan Medicare plan. Americans do not support the [Paul] Ryan plan,” he wrote. “Expect the GOP to then blame the Tea Party for losses.”

TPM DC goes on to state that the “GOP’s Medicare plan polls terribly everywhere, so it makes sense that some conservatives in states like Florida with large elderly populations are jumping ship.

This begs the question, without the Tea Party whack-jobs does the GOP have any supporters?

Inasmuch as the Republican Party is doing everything within its power to hasten its own extinction, we thought that it would be appropriate if today’s song parody was based upon a tune about another extinct animal, the unicorn. Please remember to click on the song link below to familiarize yourselves with the tune and to have more fun singing along with the parody.

THE REPUBLICAN SONG

(sung to the Irish Rovers song The Unicorn Song)

A long time ago when the States were new
There were lots of political parties so let’s name a few
They bickered and they fought in this land that was free
But always the sore loser was the G.O.P.

There were Whigs and Tories, Greenbacks, also too
The Progressive Party of 1 – 9 – 1 – 2
Democrats and don’t forget the Labor Party
Yet the sorriest of all was the G.O.P.

The Lord seen some sinnin’ from some of his men
So he grouped ‘em all together in a single pen
He said, “I need a name for you barbarians”
“You’ll be Republicans”
And behave like those…

Whigs and Tories, Greenbacks also too
The Progressive Party of 1 – 9 – 1 – 2
Democrats and don’t forget the Labor Party
The sorriest bunch was still the G.O.P.

Wise Abe Lincoln was there to answer the call
He set free all those slaves so there’d be freedom for all
Teddy Roosevelt did his duty too
These were good deeds well overdue
Just like…

Whigs and Tories, Greenbacks also too
The Progressive Party of 1 – 9 – 1 – 2
Democrats and don’t forget the Labor Party
It looked like there was hope for the G.O.P.

Then came the late 20th century
Them Republicans were up to their old tricks again
Dick Nixon and Watergate led to defeat
Oh, that crooked G.O.P.

There were Whigs and Tories, Greenbacks, also too
The Progressive Party of 1 – 9 – 1 – 2
Then came Ford and Reagan and George Bushes one and two
And reduced the G.O.P. to an old worn shoe

The voters started movin’ to the other side
And with them the hopes of all Republicans died
The Democrats came down and wooed Arlen Specter away
That’s how the Republican Party died and floated away

You’ll see Independents and Democrats too
Green Party members from states both Red and Blue
Libertarians and members of the A.I.P.
We’ll never hear no more from the G.O.P.

Newt Blingrich Strikes Again!

First it was MedicareGate when Newt Gingrich was lambasted by Republicans nationwide when he stated that Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) Medicare Destruction Bill was an undesirable form of “right-wing social engineering”. Now it is TiffanyGate since it was discovered that Gingrich had charged as much as half a million dollars for jewelry at Tiffany & Co. Suffice to say, Gingrich’s fledgling Republican presidential campaign has not had a very good week.

It is not as if Gingrich did not already have plenty of problems. He is of course, the disgraced former Republican Speaker of the House that was forced out of leadership and his Congressional seat by his own party.

Now this Tiffany story is growing many troublesome legs. First of all, the average working-class American whom Gingrich claims to identify with does not have a home worth $ 500,000.00 let alone that type of jewelry. Gingrich claims that he lives frugally but the average American will not consider such large expenditures on luxury items as frugal behavior. To be a fiscal conservative is not be an excessive collector of bling.

Now TiffanyGate has taken on another interesting twist. The Spy Talk blog reports that at the same time that Tiffany & Co. was extending an interest-free line of credit to Newt Gingrich’s wife, Callista, the big-name jeweler was spending major money trying to influence the congressional committee where she worked. “Tiffany’s annual lobbying expenditures rose from about $100,000 to $360,000 between 2005 and 2009, according to records assembled by the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan government watchdog organization,” Spy Talk’s Jeff Stein wrote. Can you say “conflict of interest”?

Is that the proverbial fat lady who I can hearing singing?

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds song link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqXmBy1_qOQ

NEWT, HE HAS AN EYE FOR DIAMONDS

(sung to the Beatles song “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”)

Picture Gingrich with a ring on his finger
It sparkles and gleams and it’s supersized
Newt claims to be frugal, he claims to be holy
A Catholic with so many wives

Emerald bracelets so shiny and green
Coaxing a woman to bed
But when a new lassie catches Newt’s sly eye
She’ll be gone!

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds, ah

Newt collects wives by the bunch, are you countin’
With Tiffany bling on account which he buys
Gingrich just smiles as he shops there for hours
His bills are incredibly high

Millionaire tax cuts help Gingrich for sure
That‘s the Republican way
Gingrich won’t mix with the working-class crowd
They’re his pawns!

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds, ah

Thinks of himself as the brain of our nation
He’ll secure our borders and safeguard our skies
Nevertheless Newt’s destined for the junk-pile
Our nation hates wife-cheating guys!

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds, ah

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds, ah

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds, ah

Newt, he has an eye for diamonds
Newt, he has an eye for diamonds

Scott Brown Beats Elders Down!

The emperor wears no clothes!

Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) may have just alienated a large segment of his support base. Last Friday the clothing-challenged Republican announced that he would vote in favor of Teapublican Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) House-passed budget plan which calls for the dissolution of Medicare and replacement with a voucher system. “The leaders will bring forward (Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s) budget, and I will vote for it, and it will fail,” he said. The consensus opinion of most analysts is that such a change would hurt the elderly in at least two ways. It would not only force elders to make difficult decisions about choosing from a multitude of confusing private health insurance policies at a time in their lives when (as the result of advancing age) they are less capable of making such decisions, but it would also subject them to being personally responsible for increasing premium and medical costs.

The Boston Globe reports that after “the House passed the budget, Senate majority leader Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, vowed that his chamber will hold a vote on it, forcing Brown and other potentially vulnerable Republicans in the 2012 elections to take a stance on the cuts. A vote is expected before Memorial Day.” It is the Democrats’ intent to force GOP Senators to either vote in favor of curtailing benefits to senior citizens (which may cause a voter backlash from this ever-growing voting bloc) or to vote against the Ryan plan as passed in the House (which will highlight a fracturing of Republican unity on the issue). It is a win/win situation for the Party of Roosevelt.

Of course Massachusetts Democrats are also determined to win back Edward M. Kennedy’s senate seat and Brown’s rejection of senior citizens may be the spark they need to accomplish that goal. Democrats were complacent in the special election of January 2010 and consequently, Scott Brown surprisingly won with the assistance of out of state Tea Party support and money. But a re-dedicated Democratic voting base re-emerged in the November mid-term elections and Democrats were victorious in every state-wide election. Furthermore, inasmuch as Brown has voted against the Tea Party on such issues as the financial regulatory overhaul and the repeal of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, his support from the group is in question.

Christen Varley, president of the Greater Boston Tea Party, told the Boston Herald that Brown may not be able to count on the Tea Party support in 2012. “I’m looking at the ‘Scott Brown’ bumper sticker on the back of my car and having serious doubts (about him),” Varley said. “We’ll all have to independently make a decision in 2012 about whether we’ll support him again.”

Scott Brown is now vulnerable to defeat in 2012. His decision not to assist law enforcement by means of identifying his alleged sexual molester and thereby potentially allowing a child molester to remain at large does not sit well with Massachusetts residents regardless of party affiliation. Now his lack of support for senior citizens gives potential Democratic opponents another point of attack. One confirmed challenger, Newton mayor Setti Warren said,

“If he indeed does plan to vote for the Ryan budget, that is an affront to workers, families, and seniors across Massachusetts. There are approximately 1 million Medicare beneficiaries in our state, yet the Ryan budget would gut and privatize that program.’’

The Boston Globe also reports that David Certner, legislative policy director of the AARP, the nation’s largest group representing retired Americans, said that the elderly are protective of Medicare because it plays such a huge role in their lives and well-being.

“They certainly perceive attacks on the program as something that is very much something they’re not interested in,’’ he said.

This Medicare vote could spell the end for Scott Brown’s US Senate tenure. Let’s hope so.

UPDATE

This just in!!! Scott Brown has suddenly pulled a Mitt Romney-sized flip-flop regarding his support for the Republicans’ Medicare Destruction Act. He appeared on a local Boston talk radio program yesterday and here is what transpired:

Radio Host: This specific proposal, the Ryan proposal to privatize Medicare, if it came up, does it have your support or it doesn’t?

Brown: First of all, it’s very difficult to get into hypotheticals because it’s not coming up, but the way that the Medicare and Medicaid proposals and a lot of other proposals in that bill are right now, no, I can’t support it, and I’ve made that very clear.

Wow, talk about reversing yourself. Does Scott brown have any firmly held convictions or beliefs?

SCOTT BROWN

(sung to the Petula Clark song “Downtown”)

If Mass. is your home
And you are full of baloney,
You must surely be – Scott Brown
You have your worries,
With no clothes in snow flurries
You’re a nudist boy – Scott Brown

You’re popular in the woods but were voteless in the city
Your term is only two years Scott, and isn’t that a pity?
You’re sure to lose

You’ve got some Mitt Romney hair
But it grows down on your buttocks, we’ve seen when you’re bare, and so
Scott Brown – politics of hate when you’re
Scott Brown – voted right out the door
Scott Brown – private life’s waiting for you
(Scott Brown, Scott Brown)

Don’t wear a frown
As the Tea-Baggers surround you
They are friends not foes – Scott Brown
The “Party of No”
Is just the place that they go to
Where their hatred grows – Scott Brown

Just charm them with the rhythm of your naked bossanova
They’ll be bare-assed with you too before the night is over
Happy again

They’ll take off their underwear
Then they’ll forget all their troubles, forget all their cares like you,
Scott Brown – not erudite or bright
Scott Brown – every nudist’s delight
Scott Brown – you’re gonna be alright now
(Scott Brown, Scott Brown, Scott Brown)

(Scott Brown, Scott Brown)

And you might find that your behind will help ingratiate you
With Larry Craig who loves the view and has a gentle hand to
Guide you along

You two would make quite a pair
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares dear bro
Scott Brown – you’ll get kicked out the door
Scott Brown – Won’t take a minute more
Scott Brown – Private life’s waiting for you

Scott Brown (Scott Brown) Scott Brown (Scott Brown)
Scott Brown (Scott Brown) Scott Brown (Scott Brown)
(repeat and fade out)

Let It Snowe, Let It Snowe, Let it Snowe !!!

The Twelve Days of Christmas Song Parodies continues…

With regard to health care reform legislation, the Democrats have once again called the Republican’s bluff. For months the Republicans have been feigning to be the champions of the Medicare program by warning the American public that passage of the Democratic health care reform bill and public option will cause rationing of Medicare services to the elderly. Sarah Palin went so far as to create the myth of so-called “death panels”. The mere thought that Republicans are portraying themselves as the defenders of the Medicare program is laughable. Everyone knows that it was the Republican Party that vociferously opposed the creation of the Medicare program in the first place and has continued to attempt to de-fund the program for the last four decades. Despite this new and revised supportive position regarding a government entitlement program by the Republicans, the Democrats have just raised the stakes and dared the G.O.P. to put its money where its mouth is.

Many news sources reported Tuesday evening that the Senate Democrats have developed a plan wherein they would scuttle the controversial “public option” in favor of an alternative plan that would also assure that millions of Americans receive more comprehensive health coverage at a lower cost than is available through the private insurance industry. The alternative plan? Well, the Democrats have elected to side with the Republicans in their full support for Medicare. In fact, they will drop the hated “public option” in return for simply lowering the qualifying age for Medicare enrollment from 65 to 55. The Republicans should be elated. The Democrats have finally admitted to the sanctity and virtues of the Medicare program to the extent that they want to make its benefits available to millions more. If the Medicare program is as valuable as the Republicans have been telling us of late, shouldn’t they be in favor of reforming health care by means of expanding this wonderful program?

“Not so fast”, say the Republicans. “We do not support more government involvement in health care”. But weren’t the Republicans just fighting against less government benefits going to the elderly as the result of medical service cuts that they said the Democratic plan mandated? So what is the Republican position? Do they even know what it is? Certainly the most sane and progressive Republican in the bunch, Maine’s Olympia Snowe, will be in favor of expanding Medicare. After all, she is the only Republican that voted alongside the Democrats on health insurance reform this term. What, she too is against the new proposal? She said this?

My deep concern is about the breadth and scale of this legislation, taking it in a more expansionistic approach for government’s role rather than reverse

Politico reports that Snowe would not say she is opposed to the proposed compromise as long as it includes the Medicare and Medicaid expansions. But she said she expressed concerns  about the Medicare “buy in,” which would allow people between 55 and 64 to purchase coverage in the popular insurance program for the elderly. She said, “It just adds a potential for exponential uncertainties with respect to the Medicare program.” Really Olympia, Just what “uncertainties”? By allowing millions of presently uninsured upper middle aged people to pay premiums so as to buy into Medicare at an earlier age would add funds to the Medicare system and insure many more people without the creation of a new and separate governmental agency. If Olympia Snowe cannot see the necessity for either the public option or an expanded Medicare enrollment, then she should no longer be courted by the Democrats as the sole sane and reasonable Republican.

LET IT SNOWE

(sung to the Christmas song “Let It Snow”)

Oh, that Olympia is frightful,
Her health care position, spiteful
She’s in the “Party of No”
Let it Snowe! Let it Snowe! Let it Snowe!

It’s health care reform she’s stopping
The sick uninsured are dropping
But she loves the status quo
Let it Snowe! Let it Snowe! Let it Snowe!

She refuses to do what’s right
Even though she knows we need reform
She continues to fuss and fight
Her goal is to misinform

People are slowly dying
Insurance to dear for buying
We can blame Olympia Snowe
Let it Snowe! Let it Snowe! Let it Snowe!

(musical interlude)

“Public Option” would be just right
She would know if she were more informed
It would solve our insurance plight
And soon would be known as the norm

Why won’t she just stop denying
The insurance lobby’s lying
But they’re paying her lots of dough
Let it Snowe! Let it Snowe! Let it Snowe!

Calling Dr. Palin, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard

New street signs approved by the Wasilla, Alaska Dept. of Public Works

My goodness gracious, Sarah Palin is at it again. That’s right folks, inasmuch as the Republican Party has failed to come up with any health care reform legislation, the quitting ex-governor of Alaska has done so all by her little self. The Palin plan is like one of those things that you think is stupid when you first hear it, but then when you think about it for awhile you realize that it is even dumber than you first thought.

Here we go. First of all she claims that her plan will not have any of those pesky “death panels”. But that is just the start of her health system overhaul. Remember when all of those bat-crazy elderly tea-baggers were appearing at Town Hall Meetings to express their opposition to any public health insurance plan because they demanded that the government “leave my medicare alone”? Well, Palins plan will not only alter their medicare coverage, it will cancel it entirely. Palin wants to help the elderly by simply “…providing Medicare recipients with vouchers that allow them to purchase their own coverage;…”

Great plan Sarah. I’m sure it took a lot of deep thinking to come up with that one. Who was your expert source, Piper? Let’s think this through for a minute. We take medicare away from the elderly and give them cash vouchers to purchase private health insurance from for-profit private insurance companies. That should be easy because none of those elderly people should have any pre-existing medical conditions that would prohibit them from obtaining coverage in the private sector right? I’m also sure that all of those elderly folks with failing concentration problems and “dare I say”, things such as early onset dementia should have no problem whatsoever comparing hundreds of different insurance plans and determining which one best fits their individual circumstances. After all, they have all the time in the world to read those policies because they are too old and feeble to work. That fine print shouldn’t confuse them or add any additional stress to their lives either.

Sign me up, Sarah. You are a real genius.

GETTING BETTER

(sung to the Beatles song “Getting Better”)

She’s getting better all the time

She did really bad while in school (Sarah can’t complain)
The intelligence of a fool (Sarah can’t complain)
In each college town, Grades tumbling down
Attending just safety schools (foolish rules)

We’ve got to admit it’s no better (better)
Not getting better all this time (it can get much worse)
Just how did John McCain fail to vet her (vet her)
He failed to vet her. That’s being kind

Now Mac’s just an angry old man
His Sarah Palin pick was panned
She’s a coo-coo bird, that can’t speak a word
A pregnancy that was unplanned

We’ve got to admit it’s no better (better)
Not getting better all this time (it can get much worse)
Just how did John McCain fail to vet her (vet her)
He failed to vet her. That’s being kind

Still not getting better all this time
Not getting better all this time
Better, better, better
Not getting better all this time
Better, better, better

He shouldn’t have picked that dumb woman
Dead-beater was falling apart and would never be loved
Man she was green and also really mean
His choice should have been much better planned (Ooh)

I submit Romney was better (Better)
Romney was better all the time (Palin made it worse)
McCain wishes he never met her (Met her)
Could have been better McCain opines
Could have been much better Mac opines
Romney was better all the time
Better, better, better
Romney was better all the time
Better, better, better
Romney was much better all the time
